Square Enix gives 20-minute demonstration of Final Fantasy Type-0

Thank goodness for discrete camcorders! Square Enix producer Hajime Tabata recently gave a 20-minute demonstration of Final Fantasy Type-0's fast-paced combat, exploration and airship battles -- thanks to one thoughtful soul, we can now watch said presentation in the video after the jump!

Why can't they just finish Versus XIII already?

For all you guys wondering the first battle footage does not start until about 7:40 into the clip. Before that point its standard Squeenix run around CS to CS fare. Looks fun though.

So why is this called Final Fantasy besides the throw in theme music, airships and the fact that it's made by Square-enix?
Oh, right....

It's no different then the Ivalice world setting. That gave us several wildly different, but interconnected games. It sounds like This was suppose to be the same sort of thing: one world, at different times and places.

Nah, I don't think so. Nomura already stated that they (XIII, Versus and Type-0, previously know as Agito - which was even a dumber name, could that be possible) are not set in the same world, but have a common theme - the crystal. Weeeell... The crystal was one of the common themes to all FF's previous to VII, so it's not like they're doing some super innovative thing here, they're just rehashing an old thing and calling it new.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed XIII despite its flaws and I'm really looking forward to XIII-2 and these other two (specially Versus), I just think their marketing campaign is a little off...

Love the fast paced combat. The slow FF7 style battles that took like 30 seconds to even get started was the worst thing to happen to JRPGs. Not that they were bad in FF7, but it started a bad trend.

I loved chrono cross until I became lynx. I played for a few hours like that and complained to my friend how boring that section is. He told me that youre lynx for a large portion of the game and I never put the disc back in.
Probably a mistake in the long run, but man was that part boring.

I personally liked FFXII's battle system. You see monster, you take out weapon, slap the monster one or two times, and move along. All while still being turn based.
That's all I need, really.

@The Only Girl I really liked FFXII it is my 2nd favorite (VI being my favorite).
The battle system was great. The only drawback was that the summons were not important on FFXII.
Also I think FFXIII battle system is excellent, actually other than the world and graphics, it is the only enticing thing about FFXIII

I know people will stone me (as in throwing stones) for bringing up this name, but FFX-2 combat was pretty fast paced. In fact, despite the whole changing costumes embarrassment (which fortunatelly could be skipped) -not to mention the embarassment the game was itself - I found that combat system to be very enjoyful, only to be recently overthrown by XIII's. I mean that from a turn-based combat standpoint of course, nothing can get as hectic or awesome as a Star Ocean battle system. But XIII's was a close call.

Square needs to revive the Chrono Trigger Series. And not ports to other consoles or anything related to that pile of crap known as Chrono Cross.

Good Lord, that was a solid seven minutes of a bitch in a cape running around aimlessly. I mean, I know that it's Final Fantasy and all, but if you're showing off your game, at least show off the visceral portions.
But then they did.
That combat looks rad.
It could be a winner.

@Urethra Alfredo They just can't win with you assholes. All XIII did was show off the visceral parts, and everyone complained that there's no towns.
So they spend 7 minutes showing you that there are gigantic towns in this game, massive ones, with NPCs, sidequests, and stores. Then you bitch about it.

Whoa. Take it easy there, little feller.
I'm all for exploration in my Final Fantasy games. All I was saying was that showing seven entire minutes of aimless wandering was perhaps not the best decision if you're trying to avoid putting your audience to sleep.
It'd be like giving a sneak peek of The Dark Knights Returns, but instead of showing any villains, action set-pieces or dialogue of any kind, they just showed seven minutes of Christian Bale walking around Gotham.
And Final Fantasy XIII was, in fact, horrible cockshit. It was digital dick milk. The absolute worst.
The little I've seen of Final Fantasy Type-0 looks a hundred times better than that self-indulgent, incoherent sixty hour cut-scene.

Yikes. That "world theme" music got old on me quick, and the game's not even released yet. Sounds like Takeharu Ishimoto.

Agreed. Also did they get the same voice actor that played Navi to voice the girl? I kept having "LISTEN!" flashbacks during the fight scene.
