Another round of face acting to awful game voice acting
35
Apparently not satisfied with his already stellar lineup of hilarious face acting set to hilariously bad video game voice acting, Dean has returned with "Dean's Face Acting: Episode 2." Like many sequels, it may not be as good, but it'll make you remember why you fell in love in the first place.

I agree with snake. You should never be too rough on your box.

But all the boxes I know already have holes, except for that prude refrigerator box, and I'd need very powerful beer goggles to go near
that thing!

A lot of the voice acting is actually pretty good - it's the writing that's terrible.

I don't think the acting is actually good in most cases but yes the writing is worse.
(And btw - including at least a few that are supposed to be silly is a bit unfair.)
In some cases the original writing might have even been okay before it got translated; a few sound like they were too-literally translated.
I agree the problem kind of boils down to the way voice recording is done. In an ideal world they would get all the voice actors into the same studio at the same time with a voice director who has some actual power to make decisions. While they're recording, if an actor notices that a line sucks, no problem - s/he tells the director, they agree to change it, as long as it's the same length it can be fixed.
As I understand it, what actually happens is they're all recorded in different places at different times (that kills a lot of the naturalness already, unless the actors are very very good and it's edited very very carefully). And because they have to respond, you can't change your lines, because that would affect the lines already recorded by some other actor last week. And if the voice director wants to change the crappy script they can't because it would have had to be agreed six months ago and probably by somebody in Japan (who by the way doesn't know English properly which is why they signed off the first one).
You can look at this two ways; one is that there's a good excuse for shitty game voice-acting, and the other is that the industry should sort out their processes to enable voice acting to not suck. (Which to be fair would be hard to achieve.)

"In an ideal world they would get all the voice actors into the same studio at the same time"
From my understanding this is how Japanese anime is done although this creates a lot of problems in itself. A huge group of people have to get their schedules all matched which shouldn't be a problem for having a job anyway but this will sometimes limit high profile VAs because they have packed schedules and have no time to record at the same time as everyone else for whatever show is coming out the next season.
I also hear they get terrible pay.

I have Chaos Wars and the voice acting is really, really, really, really, really, really, really, awesomely, terribly, god-forsakenly, master-of-unlockingly bad. I have never played a game with dialog and voice acting as horrid as that game. It's almost legendary.

Also, I had managed to forget about Emma Emmerich, but damn it, now I'll never be happy again.

@FakeJamaican why so butthurt bro? It's just good fun. Its not like he's complaining about the voice acting, he's just making a funny YT video that most of us happen to like.

I really, really love the delivery in SotN. I know it's campy as all hell but it added to the B-movie feel of the game.
I was actually upset when I found out they recorded new dialog for Dracula X Chronicles on PSP.
