Persona 2: Innocent Sin coming to PSP this fall

As hinted by a time-lost relic of a newsletter sent last week by Atlus, the PSP remake of Persona 2: Innocent Sin is on the way to North America, with a release scheduled for sometime this fall. Persona fans have extra reason to get excited about this particular release, as the PlayStation original was never localized.

Even if you have already played the original, in Japanese or through a fan translation, this one offers new content in the form of new sidequests, a new interface, and an optional new soundtrack by director Shoji Meguro. Persona 2: Innocent Sin was the first game in Atlus's Shin Megami Tensei series to drop the traditional first-person dungeons in favor of a third-person viewpoint. Like the other Personas, it's all about cool high school kids negotiating (and fighting) with demons and discovering their powerful "Persona" alter egos. In this one, students at Seven Sisters High School find that rumors start mysteriously coming true in their hometown of Sumaru City, including the rumor that if you call your own cell phone number, a demon called the Joker appears and grants a wish. Being teenagers, the kids decide to wisely avoid tempting fate.

Same here, it's just that P4 is the one I have "open" now. I got stonewalled HARD at the start of Rise's dungeon.... in January, and haven't touched it since.

@John Z I just restarted 4 after buying the PSP version of 3 (already own FES) and its so hard to get into. I just dont like the characters and story as much. Everyone seems so fake.

@John Z Ok this is starting to get weird the same month I get and am about to beat persona 4 persona starts to pop up everywhere.

I've never played any games of the shin megami tensei series, but this trailer has piqued my interest since it reminds me of twewy.

Good video to get people's attention, it got mine (then again, I'm a sucker for games laced with anime ) :D

You should definetly get Persona 3 FES or Persona 4 if you like the anime style. This one, not too sure.

Persona one is quite a bit different from the PS2 iterations of the series, which are both excellent games, but this one looks to be somewhere in between. It was never released in NA before either, so it's hard to say, but if you're jumping in now, I'd recommend starting with Persona 3 FES (or P3 Portable on psp).

Persona 2 had two parts: Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. Eternal Punishment was released on the PS1 but this is the first time Innocent Sin is being released in the U.S.

@Twiztdclwn4life Correct. Persona 2 was a 2 part game. This is the first part. What we got in US on PS1 was the 2nd part.

Innocent Sin comes first, then Eternal Punishment (the PS1 game).

Just as I buy a PSP... Atlus are looking out for me.

I never used to get the ads everyone likes to complain about on here, but now i get that annoying as hell safe social ad all the time. What gives??

If this one plays at all like the first Persona, then gird your loins because it takes a special kind of player to enjoy that type of grinding.

(and hopefully Atlus includes some audio options for this one too)

@Spiritof I concur- I wish RPG remakes would get a simple tweak to reward you a bit more exp to minimize that. Maybe they are concerned about busting the balance too much.... couldn't really speak to that. All I know is I played the remake of FF3 on DS and couldn't even start the first area without grinding mindlessly in the starting area, annoying!

It's a crying shame that P2 was nowhere near as good as P3. It beggars belief that Atlus would port the best, then the worst in the series.

PERSONA 5 NOW PLZ!

Ugh, my PSP backlog continues to grow. So many amazing games!

I'll be there for this on day one. Now that I know for sure that this one is coming out, I think I might just get started on the first one as soon as I beat Breath of Fire III. Like I said in an older post, it's awesome that I'll have the first three games (sans Eternal Punishment, but I already own it for the PSOne) and it now feels like I'm going to be completing the Persona Portable Trilogy.

I'm excited for this game, but man that opening theme is awful.

I played Eternal Punishment a lot, but I was always ticked off at the amount of people and situations my characters knew about but I had no info on. It was much later that I discovered it was actually the second game in a pair and since I've been wanting to play the first one. I will most certainly purchase this.

day one for sure. Glad that they didn't change the game except the interface.

As a long time lurker, I've never posted once. Until now.

This is an absolute first day purchase. Having played through the fan translation of the original game, I'd be more than happy to buy and play through this all over again.

Ah, the game that wasn't released in the US for fears that the (optional) gay relationship in the game would not sit well with western audiences. I always found it odd that they would release the second part of the series without releasing the first in the US.

Damn it, Atlus, quit jumping around the series and give me what I want - Persona 4 Portable. I loved the storyline (having watched the entire Giant Bomb Endurance Run) and just want to play through it in the palm of my hand. P3P is good, but I need my Chie fix.

@BeeksElectric Haven't they said on multiple occasions that they're not making a Persona 4 Portable?

And does there really need to be one? What else could you add to the game that would change it in a major way?
