One does find it strange labeling a 15 year old game's video footage as a trailer. I'm also finding it strange that they don't plaster that '2D IMAGE OF A 3D GAME' constantly in the video.

Shouldn't this be called Super Link Bros? I mean they keep flashing back between chubby young link and his older brother. I don't get it, I never knew Link had a brother.

Obvious troll is obvious.

This game looks a hellovalot better than the original N64 version (graphically, obviously). It's not how it looked, but it's more how we remember it.

Why am I downvoted for making an observation? I didn't say it was stupid or highlight it in a negative light - Just strange how we can look at a trailer for a 15 year old game as if it has something new to show. I've had this preordered since I grabbed my 3DS, so I look forward to it's release. Don't understand why I can't think on the peculiar bits surrounding it's release.

And the brothers thing was a joke in regards to the spoiler warning. I imagine someone who's never played OoT wouldn't know that you jump through time (and age for some odd reason) into an adult form, and back again to a child.

Bunch of savages in this town I tell you.

I just don't get it. Why are people excited for this, or for Star Fox 64 3DS? Sure, the originals were good games (Star Fox 64 being my favourite Star Fox game), but outside of people who never played the original or people who have a thing for 3D tech, there's just no reason to own it, and even then, they could just buy both for $20 on the Virtual Console.

I don't know. I've never known Nintendo to really change their games, so this is kinda like the 8th Ocarina of Time remake.

@My Prerogative It's the first Ocarina of Time remake to feature updated graphics and a vastly improved inventory system, not to mention the beefed-up Master Quest and the boss rush mode. In short, it's the definitive version.

Some people haven't played the game since it came out over a decade ago. They can remember loving the game, but can't recall much else specifically. For many, it will be like playing a brand new zelda game, and it's already guaranteed to be great. How could we not be excited?

I'm just saying, people get upset when, say, Activision releases another COD with little to differenciate itself from the last one, yet this is a copy/paste of OoT (Master Quest specifically), and everyone gets excited? It makes no sense. You could argue that it's been 13 years since the last Ocarina of Time, but then I guess you never played any Zelda game since then and don't plan on getting Skyward Sword.

i can't speak for everyone else, but i can tell you why i'm excited for it. i have the original N64 cart from the day it came out- but my N64 is in my parents attic hundreds of miles away- and i lost my good N64 controller long ago. also- have you seen what N64 games look like on a modern HDTV? they look awful. this version is portable (or small enough to play on the couch should my wife want to watch TV or a movie in the living room). this version has been enhanced with better graphics, textures, frame rate and inventory controls. it's got the master quest built in- a new boss rush mode AND it even supports 3D (which i will probably not even use- but it's cool that they even thought to do it). if you don't want it, don't buy it- nobody cares. but there's plenty of reasons why a lot of people are still excited for this game.

This is also the first (legal) portable version of the game. No TV needed. This is one of my favorite Zelda games, and I don't need each and every version, but there are some that can't be passed up. I sold my N64 so I don't have the original original, nor did I buy the VC version. The one I have now is the gamecube disc that came free with windwaker (which I no longer own the weakest game in the series, IMO).

When they first annouced it, I wasn't like "OMG must buy!" But seeing as Nintendo decided not to have any quality 3DS games out yet, and after watching sweet videos like this, I am purchasing it to have a 3DS game.

Everyone?

Quit trying to justify complaints with broken, generalized rationale and exaggerated statements. It's clear there's something bothering you about this release, but if that's your logic then I don't even think you know why.

Secondly, stop questioning why people like something. Why don't you go spend time thinking about why you like what you like? Question that over and over, you may be surprised if you haven't already.

@RageOverdose Well, most of the things I liked were very original.

Let's say for example, one of my favourites games ever, Shadow of the Collosus. That game never came with a sequel every couple of years or so, and The Last Gardian really isn't a sequel (but is the closest we'll get).

Meanwhile, with the exception of Majora's Mask, every Zelda game followed the exact same suit and repeated itself every couple of years, differenciating by little things like a music device, a boat, or turning into a dog. Same gameplay, same eight dungeons, same boomerang.

SotC is getting its own remake as well, but it doesn't bother me as much because its been 7 years and nothing like it has been done since. That's more nostalgic to me than OoT will ever be.

You brought up an interesting point about Call of Duty that I hadn't really thought about, and initially, I thought it had merit. Then I remembered that you were talking about Call of Duty--the game which comes out once a year, is mediocre every time, sells more copies every time, and is forcing nearly every other game in its genre to jump in line behind it.

Across every Call of Duty title, there is the same control scheme (because the FPS genre is in a bit of a rut), the same mechanic (singular. there are good FPSs, but let's face it, there's typically only one real mechanic), and the damn games come out more often than republican party representatives. It's overwhelming, because at the rate at which they much create the games, very little can be changed and refined.

Nintendo, however, is constantly trying to reinvent its series and really, gaming in general. Twilight offered something different than Wind Waker offered something different from Majora offered something different from Ocarina, but they were all presented in the same world, the same characters, and very similar contexts. This is why I think Zelda deserves more recognition than something like Call of Duty. That's what Nintendo does. They don't run the same race, but faster. They build a new damn racetrack.

@scrumtrelescent7 But then does OoT really deserve a remake? Every Zelda game after it (except Four Swords) was the same game. Does sailing or changing the seasons really change the fact that you still go to 8 dungeons and find a particular weapon which the boss of the dungeon just so happens to be weak against?

As I said above, the SotC remake is far more deserving, and for one reason. There has never been a game like it in 7 years. After OoT, we've seen 7 games that are just like it with differences being small and little, with another coming this year. SotC is the only game of its kind. There hasn't been a sequel to it, and it's likely there never will be. Last Guardian comes out this year, 7 years after SotC, and it isn't even a direct sequel. The fact that it's one of a kind makes it far more valuable and nostalgic and deserving of a memorial than this.

Shadow of the Colossus follows similar adventure veins (and so does Ico before it) coming from Zelda.

It is original in style and control, and puts emphasis on large scope to make you feel truly little. Know what else does that? Zelda, most notably Wind Waker, as you were TINY compared to some of the bosses and environments in that game. That's only part of the style, SotC goes for realism obviously, Wind Waker went for cartoony characterization.

All the Colossus are large scale puzzles where you must use your skills and tools (alongside some hints if you are having trouble) to find what you need to find and hit it. This in and of itself is a challenge in timing because of how you have to be sure that the Colossus will be stable when you go for the blow and you have to consider your stamina. Aside from the stamina, know what that's like? Basically every Zelda boss, which are usually games of patience and timing. And getting to those bosses is like every Zelda dungeon. The big difference here is that you use the same tools over and over again in Shadow of the Colossus, but you get new ones in Zelda games. Different approaches.

Shadow of the Colossus, in concept, is not that different from Zelda. In execution it will feel different because it's style, control, and setup are different. You are still really doing the same thing however, solving large scale puzzles.

Call of Duty is a cinematic tunnel of shooting. It's entertaining for the first time experience but doesn't offer anything in the way of depth and can be very boring after you've seen the same things over and over again. I like Call of Duty, but even for a fan it can get old. Comparing something released every year to something released every few years with completely different approaches would be fine if you actually had a good point behind it.

@RageOverdose No. The difference is that there hasn't been another game like Shadow of the Collosus. After OoT, there were 8 just like it. there hasn't been 2 years and a Zelda game just like it not gone by since.

I am by no means calling OoT a bad game. I'm mearly saying that it doesn't deserve this, dispite being the quote/unquote Best Game Ever. Credit where credit is due; it showed what could be done with 3D environments, as did Mario 64, and set the table for 95% of games today.

However, seeing as though we get a quote/unquote new Zelda every couple of years, it's hard for someone to not get expirienced to the Zelda universe and its gameplay style. It's why I believe that the Ico/SotC remake is far more appropriate. These were games for last generation's gamers, and they never had a follow-up. I mean, it's been 7 years and we're just getting something new from Team Ico next year.

Just like Pokemon, the Zelda series comes by so often and with so few changes. It may have slightly different elements here and there, but it will still feel like the same game you played last time, and Skyward Sword will be no different (educated guess). However its been so long since SotC that The Last Guardian could be about fighting 16 collosi and still feel new because of the time difference (but it's actually new gameplay).

My point is that I wasn't trying to insult your idol and god. I was mearly saying that a OoT remake is unnecessary because it gets a remake every 2 years. It will never feel new because of this, and a remake of OoT won't do.

See, from where I stand, each original console Zelda release does a pretty damn good job in differentiating itself from the others.

And to open a completely different, less relavant can of worms, Shadow of the Colossus isn't that great. The boss battles were great when the framerate allowed them to be, but there was nothing to tie them together except for the painfully clunky and unintuitive controls.

(yeah, I started this discussion)

I suppose you're right. Across the entire genre of adventure games, developers do indeed employ different mechanics to achieve the same goals of traveling, healing, passage of time, opening doors, etc...

Good point....

I'm honestly concerned about this being a portable title for the 3DS. I'm not trying to troll or anything.. this is a fantastic game that should be played by everyone. However, this is the type of game I sit down and play for hours with.. not some game I play quickly on a car trip or a train ride. Also, with the 3DS' battery life, I'm kinda concerned about how much you'd honestly get to play before you'd have to run home and plug it into the cradle, anyway. I might as well just play the game at home.. which at that point, my GC has a perfectly "upgraded" version for me to play any day of the week.

Just an explosion of nougat wrapped with creamy nostalgia. Some of my fondest memories of the N64 were popping this gold cartridge into the console and hearing the familiar chimes from the menu and the clomping of Epona's hooves. I think it's about time to dust off the ol' 64 and relax with some fishing at Lake Hylia's pond.
