Resistance 3's chimeric pre-order options

Resistance 3's retail pre-order incentives are as varied as the human fertilizer used on a Chimeran garden. GameStop is the only one with a tangible bonus, offering an "authentic replica" of a Chimeran teeth trophy necklace, along with a multiplayer boost that allows players to start online warfare at level 5.

Walmart has "a special set of five custom name titles, including Sentinel." The name tags ...

Sorry, that's just way too boring, we can't bring ourselves to finish explaining. Amazon will have the "No. 60 Air Fuel Grenade" available in the single-player campaign while Best Buy has a special multiplayer skin (pictured) featuring Hale as if he hadn't received the viral inhibitor. Best Buy also has an "exclusive ability in multiplayer to taunt your fallen enemies."

Finally, Canadians and other US retailers will receive a multiplayer skin to be one of the "Black Ops troops" featured in Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. A final option is just waiting until Insomniac inevitably releases all of it as DLC at some point in the future.

Why is it that every time a game comes with extra "physical" merchandise, I totally want it even if I have no use for it? I will have to fight the urge due to my personal vendetta against gamestop for never sending me that $100 off a new ps3 coupon, especially because of saying that everyone would receive one and then changing their minds.

@doreo don't become a HOARDER my friend, buying merchandise you don't need. Turn back before its too late!

Nope, I decided to pick up LA Noire and Infamous (Regular), instead of just the Infamous Hero Edition. It pained me to do so though lol

@Mika101 If the Chimeran skull is as good as the Helghast replica from Kz3, I'd grab that edition. Whoever manufactured that did a good job.

All of those options suck.

Europe is getting awesome bundles and special editions that are WAY WAY better. One of them gives your Blu-Ray copy of the GAME a VINYL LOOK, that is pure awesome.

Wow, that looks amazing. Sign me up! This puts the Infamous 2 special edition to shame, which is damn disappointing.

@pickupdoctor PS3 games aren't region-locked, right? If I get this game, I might have to import. Our options completely suck next to these. But if MP is locked down... that'll end my desire pretty quickly.

You are in luck, PS3 games are not locked to any region. That way no matter where you buy the game, it will always work on your PS3.

But the big question still remains - will Insomniac region-lock the multiplayer? A lot of games do, most notably IMO being MGO. If I bought the Euro version, it would suck to not be able to play with friends here.

@packy17 In way, that was a good thing, since the JPN MGO players were way more casual about the MP and it wasn't so much of a headshot fest it seemed. Or maybe they just had a much larger community that made that whole issue less noticeable.

i'm confused. you would still be able to play with friends right? i have people on my PSN Friends list from Europe. you would just show up as European in the lobby instead of American right? maybe i'm missing something.

Multiplayer would work just fine. There would be no issues with functionality there, I think DLC would not work since codes can be redeemed only in Europe or on European account.

It does make me wonder if you still could make it work here by just using European account.

Probably won't see this now, but a lot of games lock you into the region you're disc is from. Say I bought the UK version. I may end up being locked into those UK servers and not be able to play with friends in the US. MGO's online play famously did this, and Konami publicly told people if they wanted to play with friends in other countries, one of them had to buy that version of the game.

What bothers me is that respectable game developers like Insomniac give in to this store specific exclusives bullshit.

It's either this or stores die out and we lose the competition that keeps prices from spiking to 3 digits for a download game because we have no other option. I don't mind it especially if they just make all these available to buy later on... not that I need them all but if you want them just get the first one free and the rest later.

R2 was a little let down, but the first one is still one of the best shooters I've played. From what I've seen so far, this looks to be closer to the 1st game in terms of gameplay. As for game exclusive stuff, I could really care less. But the grenade seems kinda cool.

@jph89 The first one was well executed outside of the fact that the Chimeran soldiers were slightly too accurate with their shooting, even from downtown. R2 was a huge disappointment to me. I should give the MP a chance though.

Actually it's an "authentic replica" with the emphasis on replica. Almost every collector's edition has a "replica" something. Replica is just another way to say "we cheaped out and made it out of plastic."

(I never got around to playing R2's mp, after being thoroughly bored with the SP, does R2 have a kill-cam?)

these sound like weird things to offer for pre-order bonuses. the mp skins are normals, but ability to taunt enemies? five custom name titles? weird.

i guess it's Amazon for me for the air fuel grenade, which is one of my favorites from the series. plus Amazon will probably throw a discount in there as well to sweeten the pot.

actually, why would they cut that out of the game as a pre order bonus? seems like a pretty big omission IMHO. sure you still have frags and hedgehogs but nothing clears a room like an air fuel.

but now i'm thinking the air fuel was hard to get in the game anyway. ah, i don't remember. either way it sucks they'd take it out to pawn as a bonus.

IIRC correct, the special edition out European friends get have all that good stuff packed in.
