Trackmania Sunrise is the best racing game I've ever played. But what really made it great were not the races, but all the interesting alternate modes, from Puzzle to Stunt - and those HAVE to be there for this to be as good.

Not really sure about the "packs" concept. I guess it works if all the packs are $15 or something, but given that the original release was brimming with content (including three different "settings" and bazillion tracks) for all of $40, it won't make the fans two happy if they try to charge close to full price for a third of the game.

@Aerothorn

P.S. Assuming enough Joystiq staff play it, I'm calling it right now: this will be in the end-of-year's top 10.

@Aerothorn But for some insane reason, paying 15$ for 4 maps for a first person shooter is somehow justified by the many fans of Call of Duty, and other fps'. Oh well. ^^

Takes away all the extras of racing titles and ends up with some of the purest racing I've played. 1 car type means it's not about knowing which cars are better, but about knowing how the car will react.

Just got Trackmania United Forever during the Steam sale this week, having played the free first game, and it's still great. Would like more platform based levels in this new game.

Hi there,

I'm working at Nadeo, the developing studio. Great preview! I love how you described precisely our intentions for this game. We hope everyone will see it in this way!

Just one little thing I would like to point at:

" we saw cars get realistically dented up while bumping into walls and each other"

Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing: While there are comestic damages to cars (essentially to make it looks a little more realistic) there is no car-to-car collision, just the way it is in TrackMania United Forever or previous games.

Thanks and see you on the tracks this autumn!

Looks awesome. Sucks I'm not a PC gamer.

@smidget You could become a PC-player. Trackmania games have traditionally not been very demanding hardware wise. Trackmania is a really great series, and should be enjoyed! And the greatest thing about them is that the community provides all the content, and thus you don't have to use any money on overpriced dlc!

Yeah, I'd need to actually own a PC for that to happen ;) I still use my good 'ol 2005 Inspiron 9300 while at home. I'll be buying one some time in the next 6 months or so, so I'll definitely be picking this one up when that happens. Arcade racer is one of my favorite genres so I'd like to not miss this.

side note, dig the profile pic. I'm slowly passing on all my C&H books to my nephew as stocking stuffers, as he learns to read.

@smidget Alas, the original version 100 x 100 pixels, and does not come to full form with the pixel dimensions Joystiq use. But C&H is awsome anyway!
