LA Noire DLC and Rockstar Pass pre-order scheme revealed

Detective, thank goodness you're here! We've got a hot case that just came in and we're stumped. Here's what we've got so far:

Rockstar has revealed a steady slate of LA Noire DLC, coming until late July, that includes four new cases for Cole Phelps to bring his seething congeniality to. (Yep, the previously Best Buy-exclusive Nicholson Electroplating arson case is on the list.) You could buy all the content piecemeal for $20, or you could pre-purchase all of it for $10 with the newly announced Rockstar Pass. After June 14, the price of the pass will increase to $12.

In even better news, two of the cases -- The Naked City and A Slip of the Tongue -- are available today, assuming you have the 360 version. Sadly, trying to access the PS Store on the PS3 version still causes the game to crash, but hopefully the store will be working soon.

If this seemingly smart gambit works as planned, it would give players a reason to keep their copies off of the used game shelves until just before August -- after all, they've already paid for the DLC, right? -- so we'll be interested to see if it plays out that way.

... So, the boys in the lab have been going over it and they can't make heads or t-- whaddya mean it's all laid out there in its entirety, rendering your services pointless? What about a list of all the DLC with prices? ... Oh, right after the break? You don't say.

Then the 360 version would have required 4 discs, which the developer or publisher would have to pay fees for going over 3 discs.

Nope in fact I'd wager each disk had at least 1 GB free.
We know this because of the new firmware update unlocks that space on disks.

I'm closing in on 30 hours on the game, and I'm at 75% completion so far. I'd say I have another 10 hours to 100%. That's more than enough content in my book

The new firmware doesn't unlock that extra space: it's to have the laser on the drive read differently. Firmware is for hardware devices; not storage media.

OR you could go buy any half decent computer game and get free mods. I'm sure the PC version of LA Noire has custom cases.

@Jay Z they filled up a whole bluray disc. Im pretty sure they would not add a another disc for both platforms when it's cheaper for everyone in the long run to release it as dlc

the new update changed the requirements for anti-piracy on the disc, essentially freeing up an additional 1GB that was used. while firmware updates may not affect storage media, it can affect how data is read/written from/to said storage media.

Id say the discs are more full of all the facial content and what not as each case has multiple ways you can solve it and they say different things depending on clues, theres even non important clues that changes what you say that ive done. Plus you got the different street crimes which have more facial content and what not, even can check a body in one of them that I did. The fact it had to be 3 discs tells me all this new awesome stuff takes more space. ited be 4 discs for sure if they had all the cases plus all the facial content on those cases.

Are there pictures on the suits yet? That is the content I want the most because this guy next to me keeps calling me an old man. I thought it was pretty rude because he looks like he used to work on PlaySchool.

Yeah, it sounds that way.

The Rockstar Pass is like a pre-order on all the DLC...that way, you won't trade in your copy of L.A. Noire, knowing that you've already paid for DLC that will be coming out in a month.

It's a clever strategy on Rockstar's part...it's not the shameless cockblock that EA's Online Pass is, yet it still curbs the game's possible pre-owned sales.

I hope the PS Store goes up today as I want to play "The Consul's Car" case.

with 98.66% complete I'm all for more to do in this game....I will eventually figure out which 1 newspaper I missed and find the 4 cars I'm missing

you can see what newspapers you have missed by going to cases and looking for one's that are grayed.

It's at the first exterminator shop. If you go to the correct one, you miss this newspaper.

I can't believe you manage to miss the newspaper while collecting those god damned Golden Reels. Without a location guide, they're a nightmare to find. I found two in an hour of just wandering around on foot.

You can figure out which cars you are missing by going to 'extras' from the main menu (not inside the game). There is a car gallery there. You'll then need to hit the webs to figure out what car "2-door number 12" is, but it's a lot easier than randomly guessing which cars you haven't driven.

@Ignatius I used a guide to find those....no way in hell I would have even been in those places....

The only one I missed was on the table of the Polar Bear Ice Co. If you immediately follow the puddles of water like I did, it's easily missed.

Did I miss news about a Rockstar pass?? Is that just for used copies like the EA pass thing? what?

What's there to sum up. It makes a lot of sense.

You can pay $20 bucks to buy each item individually. Or you can pay $10 and get it all.

I think it's another version of Battlefield's VIP pass. You payed one flat rate when the game first released and all the maps / downloads were automatically downloaded when they released.

No. VIP Pass was for people who bought it new, and those who got it used needed to pay $10.

Rockstar Pass doesn't come with anything. All users will need to buy it separately, all it does is unlock all the DLC as it is released for one price.

lol all upset for microsoft having to use too many disc`s... another reason PS3 is better. and yes the graphics are too

@CaptainHowdy72 exactly. We have Microsoft to thank for all the bad things this gen. Like having to pay for xbox live just to get simple mp access. Timed exclusivity. Gimped games. Luckily rockstar is allowing for the purchase of his content as opposed to its permanent omission from the title.

About time I got more to do, really getting bored over here.

I just wrapped up the story last night and I think its one of the best I've played this year. I'll gladly pick up the Rockstar pass for the dlc

I agree but I hate the adultery concept. It feels so forced and out of nowhere.

To anyone that bought the pass and was expecting to get the traffic case right away be warned. It's not unlocked yet. At least not for me. It still says its "coming soon". So hopefully sometime this afternoon.

i bought the rockstar pass yet its weird that even thought the two suits and 2 of the cases are available for dl separate that when you go to the in game store it says they are coming soon. so if you can get the off marketplace separate and get them why is it with the rockstar pass it says coming soon? makes no sense that i cant access them after getting the pass if they are up for dl now

the stores probably have a deal that lets them have exclusive rights to it for a little bit of time.
