I would have loved this for the ps3, I have difficulty with PC gaming these days. I guss I just love to play on the couch not at a desk.

That being said, this looks pretty awesome. Im glad the sequel was this strong.

Playing on the couch is nice if all you like is dumbed down versions of games. Sorry while console gaming can be fun your limited by the intelligence of the console gaming community. The games are all watered down versions so that the mass of 12 year olds can play them,, PC gaming is on the way back up with Digital Downloading. The Witcher 2 is so awesome better than any condole RPG.

Sitting on the couch is nice for people who want to relax after working nonstop all week, has nothing to do with dumbed down anything; the only dumb thing on or around couches are people.

Anyways, I have my gaming laptop connected to my 50' TV, a xbox controller connected to it, so I sit on my couch and play Witcher 2 just like any other console game. It's awesome.

Actually, I played The Witcher 2 on my couch, with an Xbox 360 controller. It was a pleasure.

(I'm surprised maxxgold likes it, though, since it's obviously a dumbed down baby game.)

Playing on many different platforms, "12 year olds" can be found on all of them only but the catch is that some 12yr olds are really +35yrs old.

1. You get a PC with HDMI output
2. You get a TV with HDMI inputs
3. You hook your PC into the TV
4. Go buy an Xbox 360, PS3, or Logitech game pad and plug it into the USB port of your PC
5. Play PC games on your TV
6. ???
7. Profit!

Not all console games are dumbed down. Just because there are more keys to stroke does not make it more intelligent. It would be nice if people could convey their preference without having to denigrate what isn't.

To be honest (this is about to piss off a ton of fanboys), as someone who owns both a ps3 and a gaming pc I am glad this one was PC exclusive first.
Although I am sure it will come to the consoles, the fact that it was designed around the technology of today simply made it a better and more beautiful game.
Simply put, consoles being the primary median of gaming stagnates the technology. Simply look at the minimum system specs of the Witcher 2 and you'll notice that they are above the specs of a ps3 or xbox360.
If the game had focused on getting the consoles right, there would have had to have been many more shortcuts for graphical quality. Instead we got a beautiful game with large expansive levels for exploring and great looking npc models.
Yeah, it sucks that console gamers will have to wait and will probably get a watered down version graphically in some way, but at the end of the day until consoles at least try to keep up with PC's I have no issue with them being left behind on releases for a number of games. If for nothing else but to keep the industry moving.

Yeah the game is really enjoyable, even with the steep initial difficulty. The game is very much about discovery, of the environment, of your own memories, of your combat skills, and phat lewt. There are very few things to be fully critical of, it's such a solid complete package. I believe there's a good chance it will make it onto consoles, there's 360 controller mapping in the pc version, and their scaling system is quite good. Don't expect as amazing visuals as pc, but the overall environment design is still something to behold. If you have any love for good story, compelling worlds, solid blend of combat and narrative, you need to pick up this game.

@Cavall I cannot imagine playing this game on the console. For me, the experiences are different -- the console gaming experience is casual, relaxed. The PC gaming experience is intense and intimate. The Witcher 2 demands the intimacy of PC gaming, from my perspective, much as first-person shooters do. (Meanwhile, platformers and JRPGs are an awful fit for the PC gaming atmosphere.)

Max made an ignorant dick of himself. Max, you do realize this blog is concerned with console games more than pc games? In fact max, if you hate console games why do you have a luigi avatar? People like you ruin pc gaming for everyone. Go eat a thousand boner tacos and drink deep from the dick glass.

@maxxgold Agreed. Consoles hold back developers by forcing them to make games the consoles can support rather than allow them freedom that PC hardware's constant evolution allows.

Actually I greatly appreciate how difficult the prologue is- this game makes it clear from the start that it is made for the hardcore PC gamer and isn't dumbed down for the casuals and CoDudebros. You must make good application of all your magic skills plus craft and use consumables on "normal" encounters to progress in the game. This is NOT DA2 where you end up hoarding all your bombs and potions for some epic boss fight that never comes- think more like FFXI where you are useless in a group unless you bring and use consumables.

Clearly, you aren't going out often. Difficult game don't necessarily equal PC. I could name you a LOT of very hard console games, starting with the Xbox 360 Ninja Gaiden game as I can name you a lot of casual, easy games for PC.

As far as The Witcher 2 goes. Let's be clear, you are playing a Console game on a PC. I am sorry but just looking at the menu interface, the corridor like maps, etc, this game screams Console from everywhere, don't surprise yourself if at E3, they announce the console version of this game.

But you know what, I don't care, The Witcher 2, from what I have played so far, is a LOT of fun. And I play it on my computer with my xbox 360 controller because it's so much better to play it with a controller as it's clear the game was designed that way. When the Top Testers on this game all were taken in picture playing this with xbox 360 controller, you know it was meant to be played like this.

It's quite possible the user interface was designed for a console in mind just like the first witcher, but they cancelled the console versions of the original witcher so hoping for a console version from CD Projekt might not happen if it follows in the same foot steps.

Now i wouldn't mind a console version but I rarely buy guys for my PC so when a game this good comes out on the PC i tend to buy it for the PC and let my friends try it out when they are over to see what they think.

The part I liked about the starting difficulty is that it really made you buckle down and think about fights right off the bat.
If that was there goal then they really achieved it.
The fact is though that this will always be a controversial decision. There is a growing trend in the gaming industry that a game should be something that slowly teaches you how to play. That every game should treat you like it's your first game.
However, I flat out disagree with this assumption.
Example: should the Brothers Karamazov or the Sound of Fury treat you like it's your first novel?
Just because we're playing an interactive median does not mean that it should start out forgiving.
Some people will like the unforgiving start while others will think it's a mistake and be turned off.
However, I would propose that many would say the same about most Faulkner novels as well.

I am happy to wait for this game to come out on Xbox 360. I'm too lazy* to upgrade my PC. I could probably get it running on my PC, but life's too short to be arsing about trying to get the right balance of detail, shadows, HDR etc. It just does my head in.

And I'm hearing from multiple sources that the new combat system is better with a controller...

@bobiroka Plug controller into PC? You'll be pleasantly suprised at what happens when you plug a wired Xbox 360 controller (or a wireless one with a play & charge cable, or the wireless receiver you can buy) into a Windows computer.

The bottom of this review even mentions that the key prompts in Witcher 2 change to the Xbox face buttons once you've done this.

Actually the wireless controller plug and play kit only carries power over the line, not communication. You need a wireless reciever to use a wireless controller on the PC.

Yeah I'm aware it's a popular option, I just don't have a wired 360 controller, so it makes the game an even more expensive proposition. How much is a wireless receiver?

I loved the first game so I'll definitely get to this. ATM though I'm pretty much snowed under with games so am happy to wait for the 360 version....

It costs you about 20 with shipping to get an oldschool wired controller
Or
You can get a bluetooth set for your computer

Both work.

Nothing wrong with that, aside from some menu navigation issues (and one or two odd default button mapping choices) game works pretty good with a gamepad.

If you don't mind a bit lower graphical fidelity, then I don't see anything wrong with a console version. They'll likely do something about the first chapter difficulty that everyone seems to be complaining about as well (though I think some reviewers are overreacting about it).
