If that weren't enough, a bit of the game's scope is explained in the announcement, which depicts a recon mission into the "ostensibly abandoned" U.S.S. Sulaco of Aliens fame. A fancy new teaser has also arrived, which we've dropped just below the break.
Aliens: Colonial Marines to rip through Xenomorphs in Spring 2012

Other than the message imparted by the terrifying baby head we got in the mail, we haven't heard too much (useful) information about Gearbox Software's Aliens: Colonial Marines lately. It looks like that's about to change, as Gearbox and Sega today revealed plans to blow out the game at E3 next week, and announced a new "Spring 2012" launch window.

@Boring K I've been dreaming of an Aliens game that would do justice the my nightmare's. Granted I love AvP on the Jaguar and PC, but I want something to be as awesome as the time my father took me to see Aliens as a kid, yes my dad kicks ass in awesomeness.

Yeah, Im not holding out too much hope for this game. The aliens better be deadly, and not just meaty targets like they were in AVP.
I want it to be like the films. I want it to be tactical.

Didn't they cancel this game?

@sammo21 You might be thinking of the Alien RPG

Really? I swore it was officially cancelled? I'll pay attention because it's Gearbox...but I wonder how many times this game has changed. There was a heavy preview push about 3-4 years ago involving this game and its squad tactics.

@sammo21 : I worked for Gamestop and this game was NEVER taken off of the future release list. They just kept bumping up the release date. So I guess it never was canceled, just in flux for awhile. AVP was good, but I hope that this game is even more like the movie Aliens was.

Or becuase of Duke Nukem they don't want to believe any game is ever cancelled so they 1. won't have to refund preorder money and 2. can continue to take preorder money.
Right now I wonder how much money is sitting in a bank account racking up on interest for a game this will never be released.

Oh thank God, I thought Rebellion's Aliens vs. Predator reboot had killed this game.

There still hasn't been an alien game that truly gets it....
I bet the guys who made dead space could make a good alien game

@Agrippa yeah...I had a definite feeling of dread when I first started playing the "original" AvP on PC (there was another on the Jaguar that many forget). If I recall, you go through the good first half of the first mission before the first xenomorph appears (but they keep doing stuff to scare you like putting you in the dark so you have to throw out a flare and having the motion detector so sensitive that throwing the flare causes a blip). Yeah they did a GREAT job at capturing the feel of Aliens. (Remember in the movie once the Aliens show up it turns into an action movie rather than pure horror).

Hey, remember when companies used to announce stuff like this AT E3? I miss those days.

I remember three days so cram-packed with announcements it took weeks to catch up on it all ... and I'm glad they're finally starting to pre-announce things with teasers and plans so they can save the excitement of the show for the out of left field announcements and actually showcasing their games.

not only do i hate surprise-attack advertisements before my advertisements, i think the whole concept is sick. It's like conditioning. were you nervous about your government and big soulless corporations spying on every aspect of your life? Do you hate being a statistic? welll... Now you can spy on your kids! and you can monitor statistics about their life instead of being a good parent! wee! join us! we can all ruin society together! yayyy!

Seems like they're retconning a bit. That was a BIG explosion at the end of the movie (~40 megatons estimated Bishop), pretty sure that would have wiped out about everything within the first few kilometers; only thing left nearby could be the derelict Space Jockey ship.

Hmmm. Was good (ish, diaglogue was crap) until they showed the Xenomorph. Meant to reveal them in an interesting/frightening/exciting way. Here is just comes on from stage right.
Gearbox get a lot of praise these days, and are thought of as a great game production house, but they haven't actually made any great games. Everything is hype from the aptly named Randy Pitchford.

Uhh wasn't Hadley's Hope destroyed at the end of the second movie? I have a distinct memory of the white hot flash of a reactor losing it.

I hope this game is not garbage. I also hope there are as few Cameron's Aliens references as possible. Since, you know, that movie sucks balls.

I agree. MORE Alien, LESS Aliens. More good acting, less bad acting.
More horror, less shooting. More running, less fighting (however that would work - maybe like Silent Hill on Wii?). Gives the actual cool moments when you get revenge more satisfying.
Throwing bucketloads of Aliens at you and giving you an awesome gun is not going to be as fun as hunting a lone Alien that takes out your squad one by one. Just my hopes for this game but I'm sure they'll probably go with the opposite on all of the points I made.

I don't see why we couldn't get a bit of both Alien and Aliens in this game.
I am sure some sequences will be scary and tense like the first film, while others will be more action-packed "they're coming out of the goddamn walls" type of thing that feels more like the second film.

As for this game. I am pumped. Aliens is one of my all time favorite films (Alien is too).
Screw CoD MW3, Colonial Marines is where the real action will be.
