Darksiders 2 is featured on the July issue of Game Informer, along with new protagonist Death -- brother of the first game's anti-hero, War. Their uniformly grim appearance, you'll recall, is due to the fact they're a pair of horsemen of the apocalypse.
Game Informer also claims that the sequel will "deliver a richer experience," including new (and more) NPCs, a "detailed loot system" and some fresh new dungeons to explore. More specifically, Death will be traveling through "the world of Abyss," doing exactly the opposite of what you'd expect a guy named "Death" to be doing: trying to restore humankind.
Head over to Game Informer for a full image depicting the double-scythe-wielding star.

So are there going to be 4 darksiders games. 1 for each horseman.

When they first announced the series, I believe I heard that there would be 5 games; 1 for each of the horsemen through parallel stories, and a final game where the four of them join forces. Here's to hoping!

@Timjoy A very good game, I think. There's a demo so you can try it.

@Timjoy My experience with the game was it starts with a STRONG foot forward where the first dungeon and part of the second were incredibly done. However after that it felt half hearted, and nothing felt new. You would get an item that was relevant for that dungeon and maybe one to two spots in the next dungeon. Don't get me wrong I think it was a great game, but if they could deliver what they did at the start of the first one for the entire game then it would be incredible.

There were a couple of dungeons in the middle (the one in the desert in particular), that were meh. But the last two dungeons were great. I especially loved the one with the portal gun.

Well then, I need to finish the first one. Started hopping between games and never went back to this one even though I was really enjoying it.

@smidget I also need to finish the first one. Got stuck on Tiamat. I know what I need to do, I'm just having trouble actually pulling it off. I meant to get right back to it but I don't think I even turned on my PS3 for a couple of weeks after that fight since I was pretty busy and I had another game I was playing through. Darksiders just kind of got forgotten about. I need to rectify this.

I had just beat Tiamat when I stopped. My housemates and I picked up some co-op games while I was playing this so I switched over to those and then we all picked up another co-op title and well, I just never got back to it. Yeah, definitely needs to be rectified on my end as well.

There's a bit of "Splatterhouse" in the face, "Dante's Inferno" in the scythes, "Castlevania" in the bird, and WOW in the lower body.
It all spells "WIN".

Here's hoping for a Darksiders 3 with Conquest in the lead, that would be pretty interesting. Although even Famine would require pretty radical game ideas to work.
Oh, and let's make sure Death doesn't forget to bring his stable boy Hades.

@Third The other 2 Horsemen in this universe are Strife (Pestilence, I think?) and Fury, the one sister....at least I think Fury is a chick.

That's awesome to hear, I really loved the first one. Even though a lot of people hit on it for mostly just being a hodgepodge of other classic games, I really felt it had something really unique and special to it, and not just the art style. That might have to do with me being really high on post surgery medicine, but it was still a pretty rad game.

Hopefully with this one they can establish more of their own style rather than a mish mash of other games. Not that it was bad, just not that original.

L.A Noire, Red Dead Redemption, Heavy Rain, Braid, LittleBigPlanet, Borderlands, and tons of indie games just to name some in the past couple years.
Also, there is a huge difference between taking inspiration from something and copy/pasting it.

PS - The Harvester (Death's Scythe) was a pretty nasty weapon in the first game.
Weilding two will simply be bonkers.

Its nice to see that they didn't deviate from the original art for Death that was released alongside the first game. I really liked the designs for Strife and Fury, too. So it'd be nice if they make appearances or get their own games. From the sound of the description in the article, though, it sounds like this will be another one horseman deal.
Also, the Discworld nerd in me is really hoping that the raven in the picture is a part of the game. And that it can talk.
