This is awesome, but in a sad way, reminds me of like... if they did Half Life on Wii.

@nerdydesi There's kind of a difference between making fun of something, (or pointing out it's factual differences), and snarky, mean spirited elitism.

Hey mister I just bought a 360/PS3 for $200/$300 along with a brand new $60 game that just came out this week and it sure plays great. Runs in HD and I just have to pop it in to play.
Can you buy a PC for $300 with a brand new game that costs $50 and play it? Does it run at the best picture quality? Can you get home and get right into the game and feel the immersion?

With that said, I'm gonna go play a game that I just bought off Steam. kbai

You can build a quad core gaming pc complete for under $350 that will run most games max or near max in FULL 1920x1080 and just plug it into your existing hdtv via hdmi. TigerDirect has full quad core build-it-yourself kits for $199 quite often, throw in a $130 550ti and you're good to go.

And yea, I love the work done here, it's simply amazing, but really, we better hear SOMETHING about hl3 soon, I really hope it doesn't go the way of Duke nukem.

@aea0a095 add $130 for a windows disk. and you are already too expensive, plus you can't play LBP, Gears of War 3, God of War, Uncharted, or a lot of other amazing games. I'm not saying PC's are bad just for your money if you want to play games you get more from a console. I agree PC's are better for Graphics, Simulator games like the Sims, Roller Coaster Tycoon, MS Flight Sim X, and RTS games.

Ubuntu + wine could be an option, depending on what you want to play. It's somewhat limiting, but there's a large number of games that are compatible. As well as the Steam client, and IMO one of the great things about PC games is Steam sales (as long as you're okay with all that DRM...which you'd probably be getting hit with anyways).

It's outstanding how people can turn just about anything into flamewar (specially when it comes to console gaming vs PC gaming) at Joystiq.

It's just a cool video people. Move on.

It would impress me if it was possible in the game. Also, on a side note, the first Half Life didn't really impress me at all. I don't get why so many people liked/like it. But I love Half Life 2

The world in Half-Life 2 reminded me of the film adaptation of Steven King's The Langoliers.

They should turn that into a game.

HL1 was the first FPS that truly involved you in the action in real time, with sequences advancing the plot and all the major set pieces happening in front of you - no cutscenes. It was utterly innovative back in the day and paved the way for how we experience the genre now

I assume you didn't play it when it was brand new. Like many games, if you play them later, especially when they propelled the genre forward, it's hard to appreciate them as much.

Before Half Life things weren't going too great for FPS. It was a niche that wasn't mainstream. Half Life did many of the "firsts" for the genre as we know it today. Well, the "firsts" of doing it right all in one neat little package, at least.

Much like how Final Fantasy VII propelled RPGs into a more mainstream setting, Half Life did it for FPS.

Both games changed the industry and propelled it forward.

If half life didn't impress you, you obviously didn't play it when it came out. There was nothing even close to it at the time or for years after. I guess you don't "understand" why people liked doom or quake either. Your first fps was probably halo. Ignorant youngsters.

@Dillagence No need to be a dick. I played it a few years after it came out. Saying my first fps is Halo as an insult? really? Grow up. I just didn't see the appeal of the first Half Life. The concept was sort of cool but the gameplay was ultimately boring and repetitive.

@aray48 The appeal was simple. Half-Life moved the FPS as a category forward on several points. It was revolutionary both within the game and from a meta standpoint.

It made the FPS actually have a story and a well-written, immersive story at that. You were in the center of the action as it developed. It featured a new standard for voice-acting. It featured (for the time) revolutionary AI. It featured lots of game concepts that were, at that time, new or rare. Especially important is that it opened the door to user-developed content and development in a way that we take for granted now, but was rare back then.

Half-Life raised the bar far beyond the state of the art when released. It may be hard to understand that if you played it several years later. Every FPS after half-life was informed by it.

If you played half life when it first hit and you weren't impressed with it you don't like games. That game established what great games shuld be and would become and as you played it you could see it. Right from the train ride/intro you knew at that point this wasn't some Doom wanna be, it was a standard setter and it shows in all the games Valve now puts out.

Which reminds me, I can look back to the two times I played Half Life 2, and shockingly, I couldn't even vageuly understand the plot. Gas mask aliens took over the world, yet, a human is in charge? Where did they come from? How?

As a side note, if Valve remade HL1 and made it as technically awesome on the PS3 as Portal 2 was, I'd buy it. Frankly, the Orange Box plays like mud on the PS3.

Xbox - Released: Nov 15, 2001
