Everyone knows Atlantis was buried in the desert, not the sea. Title totally makes sense.

Also:
T. E. Lawrence showed some interest in Iram, and named it "The Atlantis of the Sands."

So joystiq needs a proper translator to understand how the translations actually make sense and are QUITE accurate.

The title probably (in japanese) would translate to:

Uncharted 3: Atlantis of the Sands

which is more original and cool than our: Uncharted "Drakes [blank blank adventure"] model thats typically being used (1st and 3rd game uses Drakes [whatever]

As strange as the title is, it might be potential spoilers for the entire game...

Not neccessarily. They basically already said that Drake and the gang would be searching for a kingdom, literally following in Lawrence of Arabia's footsteps.

Yeah... I suddenly wish I didn't read the article.

Really though, why do companies feel the need to Japanese up their stuff before they release it in Japan? Surely movie posters and stuff such as are left intact for Japanese release?

Although going to Atlantis would be FREAKING AWESOME!

Yeah I really wish they would've put a spoiler alert in the beginning of the article... because I was expecting a random title name that didn't give away the basic premise of the story... ughhh now I know I can't read any Uncharted 3 posts I guess

That Uncharted 2 cover makes me feel happy in my pants, and with a title like that for Uncharted 3 it DEFINITELY needs a cover in the same vein as that one. That cover should be in a museum next to andy warhols soup can.

Fun fact, Drake's face on the second cover is totally based off this image.

With that in mind, I wonder what kinds of funny reaction images they could use for the third game.

Not really. Like we all knew Drake's Fortune is about the search for El Dorado, and Among Thieves is about Shambhala. Drake's Deception is about Iram of the Pillars, aka "Atlantis of the Sands." All of which ND told us a long time ago.

What, are you hinting that there's going to be something out of the ordinary in Uncharted 3? Stop being so blind, it's going to be a straight forward cover shooter against pirates and mercenaries the who way through ;-)

If you change it into something like "Uncharted 3: Atlantis of the Desert" or "Uncharted 3: The City that Slept in the Desert", it's actually pretty good. Better than "Drake's Deception".

I didn't like "Among Thieves" or "Drake's Fortune", either.

The subtitle makes perfect sense for the japanese release. It has to be 350x more pretentious than the english version if they even want people to look at it. Now if they can just replace whats his face with an emo guy who looks like a girl they should have a hit in that market.

Personally I think they have gotten carried away with subtitles on both games and movies. Many of them are completely meaningless and nearly all of them are unnecessary.

In their language though, perhaps it sounds and flows better. But as a fan of anime and Asian culture, I still retain an interest in them.

If anyone's wondering what Sully's saying, it's:

YATTA!!!

や = ya
た = ta

the small っ thing in between や and た tells the user to repeat the sound of the consonant of the character following it, in this case, the ta part. yata becomes yatta.

End of Japanese resson for today!

End of Japanese lesson!

They should go the route that all famous franchises have gone, where if you have a trailer for Uncharted 3, you end it with just "3", like Spiderman 3 did, or many other movies have done on their posters or banners.

Or do what Saw 2 did, and have Drake peak over the bottom of promotional art holding up 3 fingers.

My brother and I always found the technique amusing.

I like how Chloe looks like Doctor Sivana in a wig.

I also like how one of the goombas from the Super Mario Bros. movie is in the loswer left-hand corner.

Surprisingly terrible box-art.
