Of course it did. This was no publicity stunt, or they took a page from an EA publicist and decided any coverage is good coverage.

"Ryu stomps babies in this version!"

Good job Capcom. Devs need to learn that DRM only punishes users, and they learned from feedback, something that took Ubisoft months to correct (even then it's still is annoying).

@Reapers In the meantime though, they haven't budged on the Bionic Commando Re-Armed 2 DRM that kept PS3 users from being able to play the game they bought that was sitting on their HDD for 3 weeks.

This is definitely a step in the right direction, I'm just still annoyed with them over the first offense. I'm still not buying any of their products for a while, just to make sure they aren't going to try to be cute and sneak something into another title they think they might be able to get away with it in. It's sad that it's come to this.

haha console games are pirated 3x the rate that PC games are. This DRM argument never holds water. Piracy is a bigger console issue than a PC one

I don't know about that because on a console you have to modify it to pirate while on a PC it's all plug in and play.

@Tradio Do you have proof to back up that statistic? 3x seems a bit much considering the PC platform is much easier to pirate games on (no need for mods, etc).

@Tradio Nice job pulling that stat out of your butt. It's harder to pirate on consoles, and there are more gaming pc's out there than consoles.

The are 5X more statistics that are made up on the spot than there are statistics that are based in reality.

Do sales hold water? Because I believe we have more of those to back up the fact more people buy console games then PC games.

Really?

Seriously, PC sales are down but it's not because of piracy. You have people who are pirates and people who are not. The PS3 didn't have ANY piracy for years and somehow, magically, it wasn't the #1 platform...

HOW!?

The 360 gets pirated almost as much, sometimes more than, as PC games on torrent trackers at least. DS games get pirated everywhere and are the ultimate convenience in doing so. A simple cart that can load up 100's to 1000s of games at once? Sounds like a wet dream to a pirate.

No, maybe it's because PC gaming, "hardcore" PC gaming by nature will always be smaller. It could also be that PC gamers get screwed big time by publishers with DRM, crappy ports that make the requirements skyrocket for no reason, and lack of content. Go figure that a game sells better on a platform that has plays better and has DLC released for it. DLC that encourages a community to play and thus play online. Multiplayer communities help a game live on as well. Most of the time that's on Xbox, the lead console this generation. (that yes, has a major piracy problem) Another, GO FIGURE.

If a game is made well on the PC there's no reason for it not to make the dev and pub money (profits) if it's released the same time as console versions (with the same damn DLC) and who the HELL says no to MORE money?

More people buy console games then PC games NOT because of DRM, but because of easy of use and accessibility. Not everyone wants to spend $1000+ on a new PC every 3-5 years when they can spend $300 on a new console every 5-7.

As... "nice" it is that they've changed their minds about this bullcrap DRM, it completely boggles the mind that anyone, anywhere, at any point in time in the entire universe thought this was a good idea to begin with.

I think it would have really been a nightmare for tournament organizers who might try to run something on PC. It'll also be nice to get an extra setup running if you can use a PC instead of a console. PLUS my PS3 madcatz TE stick works on a PC as well, no extra stick needed. :-)

Glad they are listening to the paying customers.

@(Unverified) Looks like they're still saying the restrictive DRM may be removed some time after launch? That's better than nothing. Ok Capcom, so I guess that means I'll be buying the game sometime after launch as well. Perhaps during a Steam sale.

Meet me halfway and I'll extend the same courtesy.

The moral of the story: Every time a publisher uses a whack DRM scheme that punishes paying users, they must be yelled at until they learn. The most convincing argument, as mentioned by Capcom, is how this scheme punishes users, finally someone figures it out.

Good on Capcom for learning their lesson a LOT faster than Ubisoft did. Though shame on them for apparently having their heads in the sand to begin with, to not realize that this outrage is exactly what would happen...

I forget, is Ubisoft still trying to push their bullshit it-only-does-online DRM in some of their new PC releases? I seem to recall them knocking it off for a couple of titles, but wasn't sure if they'd stopped outright. I haven't given them a cent in a couple of years thanks to that nonsense.

DRM is still lame in general (punishes purchasers and pirates just hack their own workarounds...), but I'm not bitter about this anymore. Thanks Capcom, for deciding to have a little decency.

Too little too late. It should have never had DRM in the first place and Capcom needs to really feel the pinch so they don't consider something like this again.

@Faceless Troll

capcom likes to troll their fans ... never take what they say as fact until you see it in practice.

and for a game like SF, although any extra sales are wonderful, this series has done very well with just a console fanbase and your attitude will turn fighting games console only. they tested the waters and they were pretty damn frigid ... and they responded accordingly.

let it go .. you. heard something that got your blood pressure up but was never material and now you can enjoy the game

@marinirvana Or you could grow a spine. Companies don't learn from their mistakes unless they feel it financially and quite frankly companies that do stupid things deserve to be punished. If you keep giving them money they'll keep giving you shit if they feel they can get away with it.
