i think it's just a good sign of many surprises to come at the conference. i'm hoping MS has just done a REALLY good job this year at keeping quiet on the fun stuff.

You could look at it two ways really.

A) This card is so bad because Microsoft has squat.

B) This card looks so bad because Microsoft is just so damn good at holding their cards to their chest, that their next six months and into next year are all but unknown to anyone outside of the higher Xbox group management.

I'm hoping for B, but A would surprise me ...

If they release a new system, i wonder what it will be called. My office mates said "Xbox 3" would be good. Obviously, the next Playstation is gonna be PS4; and with Nintendo you never know. But i feel like
"X-3" would be a great name.

Anyone else?

This is an awful bingo card, period. Let's replace some of the bad ones and put in:

Halo Kinect / New Halo (Can't wait to see what 343 does with it)

Clan support on XBL/integration with Facebook

XBL Deal of the Day a la Steam

Taking shots at Sony for PSN Debacle (should be in center of card)

Dedicated Servers for MW3 on Xbox 360 only

Chrono Trigger 360

Killer Instinct 360

How about Xbox Trinity?

Its simple, implies the third generation of the Xbox, and doesn't muck things up by confusing Xbox v 3.0 with Xbox 360 due to them both having the number 3 in the name.

X-T, XT, or Xb-T would probably be along the lines of the adopted abbreviation used by most people.

I don't see it being X-3, the reason MS chose 360 as the name was to use the 3 as a way to make people think the 360 and PS3 were both the third consoles from their respective companies.

If the 360 had been called "Xbox 2" it implies (to the uninformed) that it is not as good as the "Playstation 3". So I reckon the have another name up their sleeve for the next console.

A new Conker would be nice, but personally, I prefer that out of nowhere a new Killer Instinct was announced. God, I miss that game! Its announcer was spectacular too, and became something legendary here in the Internet.

Come on Microsoft! Put those guys at Rare to good use! :(

Alan Wake is the only thing on this sheet that gets a buzz out of me, and I don't even expect it to be mentioned at the conference (Remedy will announce it on the web, and maybe have something on the show floor).

Hopefully there are a couple surprises planned. A new Shadow Complex would be nice.

And I could have sworn faceplates where shot-in-the-face dead per MS's own admission.

Overall...way too much Kinect in this game for my blood.

God, I wish Faceplates made a comeback. I spent a ridonkeykong amount of money about 4 years ago on eBay to get one of those E3 05 "Rings" faceplates and with the consoles first going to black, then going to slim, it's all but worthless now.

Oh, so it's the 360's fault that they cut out the towns, the enemy variety, and any sort of open world nature in FFXIII? Or did we all just miss out on 8 more hours of cutscenes full of whiny androgenes and racist stereotypes?

It's never going to happen. Paying someone else royalties for any standard is against the Microsoft way.

You can bet on a media size increase of some kind though.

I want to see what digital media Nintendo are going to have Project Cafe using for their titles...

So, what, MS is going to screw over 6 years of 360 customers by doing a new hardware configuration of the 360 that plays larger media disks for the sake of the PS3 people? Come on.

Storage increase of some kind is a given next gen. Whether its Blu-Ray, a custom disk type, or ( my guess and hope), a type of flash media, no one knows, but DVD9 is what the 360 started with and will end with. MS didnt just beta test and roll out a new file format for their disks freeing up 1GB of space to screw over millions of customers.

@R Planteer I'm sure there are ways to change disc type without screwing over all current XBox owners. But, yes, in the future, it would be best for all those involved to accept one format. I understand business is business, but when there are differences such as these, the gamers are the ones who lose out.

Sure, if it means I get my Achievements, friends list, avatar awards etc. I'll continue to pick up my multiplats on 360.

It didn't bother me that FFVII, VIII, and IX were 3 discs a decade ago and it didn't bother me that Mass Effect 2 or Dead Space 2 were 2 discs last/this year. The day that I complain about getting up once in 5 or so hours of gaming to walk literally 4 feet and change a disc is the day I give up on life and buy a Rascal Scooter.

There isnt. Disk reading is as much a hardware thing as it is a software thing. MS cant changed to a new high capacity disk without making a hardware difference in the Xbox 360, which would render earlier Xbox 360's incapable of reading the new disks, effectively screwing them all over. It makes far more sense to bear with it for the remainder of this gen and employ a new storage solution when the new console cycle begins. This is part of the reason why MS just reworked their anti-piracy methods to squeeze a little more space out of the DVD9s.

DVD9 vs Blu-Ray was a tactical decision back in 2005. PS3 went Blu-Ray and suffered a 1/2 year delay on its launch time due to a shortage of the blue diodes used in the Blu-Ray player, as well as had drastically higher production costs and slower read times, but the extra storage has started to play in their favor. MS went DVD 9 and launched a year earlier at a lower price point, but now is having to use multiple disks and software tricks to make their games work/fit.

Larger storage would be nice but the solutions to do such a thing mid generation are unfesible, especially given how far into this console cycle we are.

I guess they could do another add on drive to play BD movies like they did with HD DVD. But, seeing as that was a miserable failure I don't see it happening. They'll probably do BD next gen as standard.

Yes, but moving forward XBOX 360 will be getting more games with multiple discs. They just announced The Witcher 2 on XBOX 360, that game will be guaranteed 2 if not 3 discs.

To be honest I am not sure if they will give users blu-ray drive, but next console must come with it. War is over blu-ray won.

If Nintendo Cafe comes with blu-ray, then you know next XBOX will have to have it. As 3D technology is expanding and XBOX is suppose to be rebranded as entertainment console, how in the world will Microsoft able to justify lack of blu-ray drive?

Nobody will be able to watch 3D movies, and sure you can download them but at current speed it will still take 1-2 hours.

No, don't you remember HD-DVD, that worked just fine by adding separate drive. But I think problem would be games, I am not sure any developer wants to sell you same game on DVDs and Blu-rays and then allow customer pick version for them.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that Sony owns the Blu-Ray technology. While I wouldn't doubt Microsoft could spend the money to make a Blu-Ray add-on player for the XBox, I'm not so sure Sony wants to add that to the list of things the XBox can rival against them.

Also, the HD-DVD drive failed because HD-DVD failed. If HD-DVD won the race, it'd still be going on our XBoxes :P

@BlackedOut You're interested in Nintendo's next format? I'm putting money on 16mb Cartridges, lol.

As for the disc format for the next Xbox, it only makes sense to use Blu-Ray. MS want the Xbox to be the centerpiece of your entertainment (games, movies, music, social networking), which really only leaves the option of using whatever the current disc standard is (Blu-Ray)
