At a quick scrolling glance the posts' main pic had me thinking, "Professor Layton! Wtf are you doing in the desert??"

-Ok, back to reading the actual article for me.

@ORTHROK - Yeah! I know, right! Why doesn't that guy have a gun, or at least something that explodes. Also a booster pack. Also a six-pack and chinstrap, and a last name with the letter "x" in it somewhere.

Is Disturbed even doing the soundtrack for this thing? Are there going to be cross promotions with GameStop? I hope Nolan North has taken up smoking and bourbon drinking just so he can capture the gruff, no nonsense voice of the main character.

I dunno, I love these types of games. Yes, the creators can be a little pretentious (You expect anything different from an artist or someone who makes these types of games?). Better to be creative than be cookie-cutter.

Does this have any sixaxis/move controls? I thought that was certainly part of what made their previous games feel so magical.

@Panko

Agreed. They did it so well and, I know this word is stupefyingly overused, but I really did become immersed. The motion controls added to a sort of texture and feel of the game, almost simulation-like. That and the visuals, sound, and gameplay were incredible.

Ah this sounds nothing short of a beautiful "must play" game.

- I am also glad thatgamecompany captured the true essence of the Jawa people. Not the lowly ragtag ones exploited in Star Wars films.

Well that's a very artsy fartsy thing to say!

I wasn't the biggest fan of Flower. In fact I hated the pretentious emptiness of the gameplay. But Journey looks really cool and I'm actually really looking forward to it.

I love art games. I am hoping for good things from Journey, however I was not impressed with Flow or Flower. ThatGameCompany hasn't really given me anything I've enjoyed yet, but at least they're not charging me much for my trouble (Flower was, what, $3?)

As for a successful art game, I think Team Ico makes those. They cost 20 more than flower, but they're more than 20 times more enjoyable and take more than 20 times longer to "beat".

Is this game ever coming out? Ive only bought one game online and that was Limbo, this will be the 2nd. I want more games like this and Limbo on the marketplace, not glorified cellphone games.

Flower and Flow are good. By the same developers. Also, I just want to say, you are really missing out on some great PSN/XBLA games.

You should try Braid. It is also pretty artsy, albeit not as minimalist as this or Limbo (I love Limbo so much!)

And there were the doubters that said that video games couldn't be art. We've known they were wrong, but now we have obvious, blatant proof. But that's not the point. The point is that this looks abd sounds to be something really spectacular. thatgamecompany has done it again.

So, how many Journey song titles will be worked into the review when that rolls around?

"Don't Stop Believin' in the amazing game which Faithfully recreates the sense of isolation of players going their Separate Ways. Solo or multiplayer, play it Any Way You Want It

Be Good To Yourself and welcome this game with Open Arms!"

I'm not saying that MMA fans can't appreciate a more arty title.

I'm saying that with both articles on such close proximity, and his reaction, he probably wanted to see the sweaty men beat the tar out of each other.

thatgamecompany and Jenova Chen are simply amazing. Though I though flOw was all right, Flower, on the other had, was simply awesome. I knew even before the game was released that it would be something special and I was right. I've been getting the same feeling with this one ever since I first read about it sometime last year. It's games like these that really make me glad to be a gamer.

Art game? That's okay with me. Art review? Fudge that. Seriously, I wanted to know what the game was about, not be showered in adjectives. Meat and bones please. It ends up feeling like they are trying too hard with the writing because there simply isn't there much to the game.

@MatthewBlackwell Put down that silly stereotype; you're only making it seem more as if the only good thing about Journey is that it doesn't feature violence and other "fun" and "cool" things (most of which genuinely are funa and cool things).
I don't much like art games, although Journey looks a lot more interesting than others, but this preview isn't very convincing: there are many games to marvel at the beauty at; most games require perseverence; maybe Journey is empowering but that doesn't change the fact that racing games and shooting games are as well; putting a puzzle together without a hand to hold you was done by The Adventures of Lolo. Uniquely, the game causes you to wonder why you're playing the game. Maybe there's a lot more to be found, but the preview could be a lot clearer about it or it ends up reading like "it's an art game so it's magic".

This seems less like a game and more like an interactive gallery for their 3d artists.

You can't just have a bunch of pretty environments and call a game 'art'. The gameplay has to represent something other than a run of the mill platformer.

Also this write up is pretentious as hell.
