I sense a heated battle between inFamous 2 and Prototype 2.

Nope. The only reason there was any sort of battle between the two games was they looked similar and they were coming within months (weeks?) of each other. inFamous 2 is already out, while Prototype 2 is still at least half a year away.

i have high fingers crossed, because at first I though Proto would take it, but inFamous surprised me, I want to win, but not number one choice will be inFamous, I just enjoyed it more, The good/bad balance had me, if it were inplimented more in either, the one with the most would have won me over. I want both to win, but that's not possible.

@Frostblade10 The fight between InFamous and Prototype has already been dealt with, and InFamous won.

There isn't really any reason to argue, the result is pretty clear.

Cautiously optimistic, but not really looking forward to the inevitable imaginary battle between P2 and InFamous 2.

Though, looking back, I thought Prototype was more fun, while InFamous was the better game. If that makes any sense. =P

That makes perfect sense to me. I loved how fun Prototype was. Just go in and kill anything, devastating everything. It honestly was just plain fun. inFamous, however, had storyline and gameplay in my opinion. It kept drawing me in. Especially the ending, which I won't ruin anyone. They both had their strong points.

I don't see how there will be much of a match though seeing how inFamous 2 comes out Tuesday and Prototype 2 is 2012 and that's not even set in stone.

Agreed 100% I didn't have a ps3 when they came out so I played infamous later, Infamous was a much better total package, but I had a lot more fun just playing in the sandbox with Prototype. For some reason I loved the glide missions. They didn't make much sense in the narrative, but I've never had side missions pull me in that hard.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze Well said, you've hit the nail on the head. I loved Prototype, it was more fun than good as a certain podcast likes to say:-) Infamous felt like a higher quality game, but a bit more serious and not quite as crazy. I also played Infamous later, I already had a PS3 but I just stalled on it for some reason. I didn't understand the overblown competition between the two though, I felt there was easily room for both. Sure they were both released at a similar time, both open world with super powered protagonists, but they were stylistically very different. It's not been a good year for sequels but I'm hopeful these will change that.

I can't wrap my head around this scenario.

It feels as if they made Alex Mercer into a villain without any indication from the first game, just so they can have a sequel.

They didn't build up the story to make Mercer a villain. He wasn't a hero, but he certainly wasn't out to rule the world.

@Dhexodus

It all depends upon how they start the scene for 2.

Mercer could easily not be the "give me 1 billion dollars or I'm going to nuke the world" villain.

If the plot is development and done well enough it could just be that Mercer is the villain simply because he infected Heller.

@Dhexodus I think the idea is Alex Mercer is a villain to the main character of Prototype 2. Plus Alex was purely anti-hero.

It might not be that Alex is a villian, but Heller sure thinks he is.

I just played through Prototype, and it absolutely should have a sequel. I would agree that InFamous was a "better" game, in the sense that it was a more polished, competent product. But I enjoyed Prototype a lot more in spite of its many problems, because I felt like it was pushing the envelope further in terms of ideas (also: no Zeke). I think P2 could be fantastic if they fix those problems.

I hated Prototype- like a fool I went and bought it outright. And was disappointed minutes later. Repetition and the same dismemberment animations lost their fun after twenty minutes. BOO! I can't even give it away, none of my friends want it. And gamestop will give you a whopping dollar. No thanks

I had a buddy tell me he couldnt finish the first one because the battles were too intense. I pointed out that when one man is up against the FRIGGAN ARMY, I would suspect things to get a little heated.

I liked the first one. A lot. I hope the second comes across just as strong.

Lets be honest. At least the gameplay was more varied than inFamous.

inFamous was more polished and much better controls, but Prototype had some darn cool powers and more enemy types than the 6 or 7 in inFamous and was much longer than inFamous.

Now, which am I more excited for? inFamous 2 absolutely, but I think people don't give Prototype as much credit as it actually deserves.

Exactly! There was just something so amazing about doing 60mph up a skyscraper while military helicopters shoot missiles right at you. I mean, seeing that missile fly right past your shoulder as you're barreling towards the sky?

Infamous was just such a more refined product. Playing prototype I could never shake the feeling that it was unfinished and unpolished. If they put more into the sequel than the original it could be a sleeper hit but it'll take a much stronger financial commitment from Activision this time around.

Lets hope the final boss battle doesn't devolve into a "toss shit at the boss and nothing else" like Prototype 1...

Honestly, I got bored of the game. I pushed on through because I was already more than halfway through, but it was just too much repetition. Really, break into ANOTHER base again? Same schtick over and over and over... and over... and over again...

"Does Prototype, 2009's open world New York-based superhero fantasy title, really need a sequel?"

...eh? Of course it goddamn does. It was innovative and fun, had some room for improvement, and left a few plot hooks for #2. With a more coherent story and a bit more variety in enemies (and the sequel looks to be providing both) it would've been my favorite game of 2009, no problem.

"...navigating a New York under alien and military siege..."

There were no aliens in Prototype and I'm starting to think whoever wrote this wasn't really paying attention.

"...and learned everything we needed to know about Blackwatch and the Blacklight virus, didn't we?"

I suppose if you didn't actually want to know anything about it in the first place, yes, we have. For those of us who gleefully gobbled up the Web of Intrigue targets every chance we got, there's plenty more questions left unanswered. (PARIAH, anyone?)

"...and instead (apparently) plays villian. The new hero is one Sargeant James Heller..."

On a more technical note, that's two typos in two sentences. It's "villain" and "Sergeant".

Wait... Alex Mercer isn't infected with Blacklight, he IS Blacklight. The original entity known as Mercer is dead. The virus formed a new being around his cells. So basically you were the infection in Prototype. This new guy seems to be infected, but it's not yet explained how he got superpowers from that stuff instead of being turned into a zombie or hunter.
As for Mercer being the villain I bet they're gonna make it so that your new protagonist misunderstands something or has been lied to by the military/Blackwatch to hunt down Mercer.
Think "HAHA, Mercer didn't infect you! WE did. We needed someone persistent enough to track down Mercer before he spreads the truth about us creating Blacklight and you were the perfect man for the job. You just lacked some motivation..."
Cliché videogame plot ahead?

Also I can't wait to play this one for sheer awesomeness. No other game makes you feel so superhero.

I'm pleased to see a sequel. The last game was rough around the edges with meh graphics and an unfathomable story, but the core gameplay (reminescent of that found in Hulk: Ultimate Destruction) was pretty fun and more enjoyable to me than the original Infamous.

Being incredibly honest, I am skeptical that the sequel will see much of a substantial overhaul--I imagine it will take the place of the annual Spider-Man open world releases with minor gameplay tweaks, but always lacking polish.
