Battlefield 3 declares war October 25, beta in September
49
Battlefield 3 will open hostilities on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on October 25. EA also announced today that the game's beta will launch in September. Remember that you get a VIP pass into that if you picked up last year's Medal of Honor.

Can you only get into the beta if you bought medal of honor at launch?

The COD comparisons are unavoidable but we should appreciate this for what it looks to be: an outstanding inclusion to military shooters.

And what poor fool purchased Medal of Honor?

I bought it a month ago for $19.99 (and it still had the BF3 beta logo on it). Nowhere near as bad as everyone seemed to make it out to be. A hell of a lot more fun than the crap that COD became after 1 and 2. Don't know about the multiplayer as I can't stand COD multi and haven't put in my online code yet for MOH as PSN went down a couple days after I bought it. The single player, has a much more entertaining story than either of the Modern Warfares. Plus, more than half of the people you play as don't die, thankfully. That always pissed me off about COD. Why invest in the characters when you're just going to kill them off. Ugh. No this was one of those we kick ass, feel good, kind of games that don't quite depress you as much. Had a few, crap they're going to kill us, moments that turned in our favor and I actually cheered a few times. Well worth it for 20 bucks.

then you'll be pleased to hear that the same people who did the multiplayer for MoH work for DICE, makers of BF3

The beta should really be for BC2 people.

@R Planteer
I say it should be BC2 players who attempted to play MoH online, then went back to BC2 after discovering the horror.

I hope they do a PC beta. I didn't buy MOH, so who knows if I can get into the console beta.
If I were to buy MOH, would I get into the beta?

Great move sneaking in before MW3, no number of team perks or whatever can stop that early victory.

Oh great - they are going to get their beta input from people who were dumb enough to buy Medal of Honor.
I'm guessing all the input that they are going to get will be along the lines of "the maps need to be more generic and identical to each other" and "the snipers need to be more powerful".

As a Call of Duty fan I admit Battlefield 3 looks amazing. But some parts looked and sounded almost *too* real.

What I mean is even with the original trailer, the AI and animations made it seem like they were real people. I think the whole "games vs violence" debate it gonna get more and more relevant as time goes on. I mean, compare this to the trailer they showed.

Am I the only one that thinks they need to incorporate killstreak reward type things into the game (if they haven't already and just have not revealed it yet)?
Not necessarily "kill" streaks which tend to discourage team play and objective based play, but some sort of reward things for doing something effective in the game.
SOCOM 4 added a killstreak type thing where you get to call in an airstrike if you accomplish certain objective based things (like kill 5 in a row in team deathmatch mode, or kill the opposing team's bomb defusal guy in bomb defusal mode, etc.)

I hate killstreaks and the lack of them is one of the big reasons I enjoy games other than CoD. Classes and destruction are the others.

But if they had to "earn" the right to fly it first, they'd have even fewer chances to practice, which means even more crashes. These are games about teamwork, not individual achievement. Your reward is dominating the other team, not getting a button that's a cheat code.

...I totally forgot about that MOH game... I do remember my disappointment with their decision to include the beta exclusively for the people who bought it.
a very, very, VERY uninformed and poor decision on their part. I'm guessing that had more to do with EA's reluctance to let an IP they know is going to flop without getting some desperate money, and less to do with DICE wanting a BF3 tie-in with their latest game. Everyone in the industry still remembers how well Crackdown sold because of its prized beta key. Of course, everyone also remembers how high of a return rate that game holds.
