EA Sports Football Club is for FIFA, despite what you may have thought
66
Maybe someone didn't send EA a memo, but here in America, we call our soccer, soccer. Apparently in the whole rest of the world (or something), people call it "football." Pffft. Whatever.
Anyway, EA Sports announced a new social client for FIFA gamers launching with FIFA 12, known as "Football Club," this morning. The service is said to track "status, bragging rights and progression," allowing players to access their cross-game stats from FIFA titles. Think Bungie Pro or Call of Duty Elite, but, ya know, without the paid part. Thats right -- it's free! Football Club will launch with FIFA 12 this fall, right here.

Futbol as it is called outside of the US is the correct name for the sport...Soccer is just something that some guy sneezed out when asked if he was sorry about something.

I call it Football, mainly because it pisses off my die-hard NFL friends. I like to call NFL "handegg"

Foot + ball = Football
Basket + ball = Basketball
Base(s) + Ball = Baseball
Hand + Egg = Handegg which is pretty much what American football is.

I thought Bungie Pro was only for additional upload slots/space and converting fileshare clips to WMV files for Windows. I mean, last I knew all their status, progression, bragging rights, and cross-game stats were free on bungie.net... or has my mind forsaken me?

Nope you're right on the money, Bungie Pro isn't only for video conversion & increasing online storage for game media.
Also isn't Call of Duty Elite's progression free too? I didn't bother reading much on the article but from what I saw the bragging rights part is free.

I've always wondered, why does the rest of the world call soccer football?

Because football has existed to the rest of the world for centuries, while american football started in the late 1800s... Which was a bastardization of real football. Contrary to belief, America didn't invent everything and was the first for about nothing until the later half of the 1900s.

Just reflex downvoting, I'm hoping. I'm taking the question as an honest one (though it might be better as why do we/Americans call it soccer). People play a bunch of games that all shared the name, but when you want a sport to grow, you've got to standardize rules and the like. So rugby's one, Australian Rules is another, American Football came from the same thing, and football/soccer. The "soccer" name is short for Association Football which promoted one set of rules. We trace most of our rules from the Brits, but the oldest evidence of a bunch of guys kicking a round thing around a field is from China in the BC era.

Because you actually use your foot to play the game at least 95% of the time...ergo FOOTBALL!....the other sport called football in america....uses the foot 5% of the time.

Actually football came from Rugby and American Football as well apparently.
Rugby was actually called football in the beginning but when it split due to differences in what the rules should be they realized it would be a bit silly to call football to something you played mostly with your hands.
As for american football... well, it doesn't look like they came to the same logical conclusion and insist on calling football "soccer". :)

Actually the term football was originally termed to differentiate between sports played "on foot" (early versions of rugby and assoctiation football) as opposed to games played on horseback(Polo, fox hunting, etc.) ehich were played by wealthier people. American football evolved from Rugby and involves the players playing "on foot" 100% of the time just like soccer/association football.

Soccer was originally a British term derived from "association" in Association Football to help distinguish it from Rugby Football. Some places in the world still often refer to Rugby as football.

My Apologies kind sir, let me try again...
The only TRUE Football is the one where you knock down all the pins with a really heavy ball! Stupid everyone-else-in-the-world-but-me seem to be calling it "bowling" though. Idiots.
Is that better?

EA clearly missed a trick not calling it Goallog though. Then Madden could have Touchdownlog. Pucklog, Punchlog....

Its perfectly appropriate to call it soccer, considering that's a British term. Soccer will never be "football" to most Americans. That term is already taken.

Well we already knew most of America couldn't find their state on a map, guess it seems they can't find their foot on a body either.

Neither do Rugby players. And football players, even with their helmets and pads, hit each other hard enough to simulate car accidents.

Well Joystiq - YOU in the US are in the minority so get with the programme. In this game you actually kick a ball with your feet, not carry it round in your arms in your padded sissy suits - thus the term football is actually correct for this sport and not a contradiction - like in yours.

EA is global... they market their games to the whole world... and since people in all countries call it Football then its F%^$ing football.
Seriously I don't get it why Americans call it soccer and gives the name "Football" to a sport where players hold the ball in their hands, throw it with their hands and occasionally just for a small amount of time during that game they kick the ball with their feet. How I see it is that it should be called Handball... oh wait thats already taken :S

Except soccer or futbol or whatever was never called football because you play the game with your feet. It originated from the original football which was called such because you played the game not with your feet, but ON your feet (IE not on a horse).
