Its unbelievable because it was a bold faced lie. But I'm not surprised about that. You can't change the stripes on a Zebra. They will always be arrogant and make stuff up or fudge the numbers if need be. That's how they do business.

I have to call BS. When I get on XBL I have at least 15 people at any given time that's watching something on Netflix. And on PSN, well never. But then again my PSN friend's list is a tenth of the size of my XBL list.

While I agree I'd like to see some proof

It's not terribly hard to believe. Who really wants to pay an additional 10-15 a month JUST to watch a service you already pay monthly for?
And no one uses the Wii to watch movies anyways so thats out of the equation.

It is possible. You need Xbox Live gold on 360 for Netflix. It is free on PS3.

I have both consoles and have used Netflix on my PS3 once maybe.

Exactly. If Gold wasn't a requirement the numbers would be very different. Of Course, it is a requirement so there ya go.

@Hoffer That's the biggest reason why I use the PS3 instead for Netflix. I wasn't paying for Gold and was surprised to see the 360 version of Netflix didn't work. I still can't understand why you have to pay for both.

I have a lot of casual friends who bought a ps3 for bluray and now it's only use is Netflix. Most of my gamer friends use 360 more and a lot of my non-gamer friends have ps3s.

Anybody had similar or different experiences

Its funny they aren't using numbers from Netflix, I would have thought primary bluray players as a whole would win out

Let's play math everyone!
So Netflix uses 50% of all internet traffic globally. See engadget article....too lazy to look it up.
Sony claims 30% is from the Playstation 3.

So at any given time, in the entire world, 15% of all internet traffic is going to Playstations for Netflix only.

World population is roughly 7 billion people. 15% of that is 1.05 billion people.
Sony has sold 50 million consoles give or take. Cool. Assuming 100% Netflix attachment rate (to counter-act the whole "well not everyone has internet access" argument) So .007 or less than 1% of the worlds population is using 15% of the global bandwidth just on Netflix on the PS3 according to Sony.

So actually I buy it. Why? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaNh-NPkeAA
J/K they probably did this survey during the outage.............

So where am I going with this? Sony

I concede, buttercup. People were asking for a link, so I took 20 seconds on Google to find that article. Anecdotal evidence is typically more reliable than published reports, in my experience anyway.

The 50% of internet traffic is not true. Good job Captain Math, way to do your research.

"These figures are for all of North America as a whole. According to Sandvine, service providers have reported that Netflix usage accounts for as much as 55% of peak time downstream in some regions."

55% in some regions.....and that is in America only. Netflix does not have an international agreement (you cannot use Netflix overseas on foreign internet providers). Your logic, math, and statistics are all flawed, sorry.

I wouldn't be surprised since Netflix requires a Gold account on XBL ... don't need PS+ to use it on PS3.

I tend to use the PS3 for Netflix now because it has subtitles and surround sound.

@longklaw

As opposed to what else? You make it sound like you chose the PS3 because those things don't exist for other Netflix streaming services.

I use Netflix on my 360 and it is in HD video with surround sound?
My parents use it through their new Blu-Ray player with WiFi that I hooked up for them; it too is in HD video with surround sound.

Of the devices that I have (Xbox 360, PC, PS3, Wii, Roku), the PS3 is the only one with both subtitles and surround sound. I didn't say anything about HD, because they pretty much all have HD.

The XBox 360 may have surround sound, but I'm pretty sure Netflix on the Xbox 360 doesn't output in surround sound, only stereo.

I know that the Wii and PC versions support subtitles, but I don't like using them to watch Netflix.

What's so hard to believe? You don't need to pay an extra subscription fee to use it on PS3 and the system itself is much quieter and therefore more pleasant to use for watching video.
