well this is cool. The one thing I wish Xbox did have is full Windows Media center.

@Dance Mofo Well, it has the integration with Windows Media Center computers. But honestly that's been really weird and spotty for me, especially wirelessly.

This could be the biggest announcement of E3 from an overall strategic perspective.

@vidjagamer i agree, it might not sound like much of an announcement, but think 10 years down the road when cable and satellite tv services are like landlines now, still there but fading away. i believe nintendo will have the biggest wow factor with the wii2, or whatever its called. but in terms of vision this seems like the biggest this year. with xbox having hulu, netflix, youtube, and now live tv, shows a great vision outside of just games.

Internet television is the future of television.. I mean no one (well at least me) doesn't really watch the tube anymore... especially the news... too depressing! I rather game & just hear the grapevine we now call facebook ;)

I need more details on this before i could really see if i'm interested. After being disappointed by ESPN i don't really care for Microsoft bring live tv to xbox360.

i cant wait to see what providers they have lined up for when the launch this. as said before this could be the biggest announcement made this week from the big three, unless sega gets back into the console making game. i do expect nintendo to have the most wow factor with the wii2 or whatever name they have, and sonys should be more exciing wiht the reannouncement of the ngp, or ps vita. but from a vision stand point, this has to be the most exciting.

I don't believe this is a brand new service, basically all this is a Kinect enabled version of the Mediaroom IPTV platform. This has been reported a few months back that it was in development.

The key phase was that Microsoft was working with existing content providers, and then talked about previous relationships they had such as Sky. There are about 5 Mediaroom IPTV providers in the US, the biggest being at&t U-verse.

With the current implementation an Xbox 360 can act as a set-top box for one of these IPTV providers through launching an application from the dashboard. This new version of Mediaroom seems to have a completely live integration from with the new fall dashboard.

I STILL don't have ESPN3 on my Xbox 360 with Time Warner as my ISP. Where's the E3 announcement about that?!

@ravissimo me either. I don't want to pay them for cable tv, so I don't get espn3. Wonder if they will block this, too.....

@Red O Magnus

actually, i pay for cable TV (and phone and internet), and ESPN3 on a PC works, but Time Warner is still dicking around with enabling access on the Xbox 360. There's no reason for it, they just want people to watch cable and no the X360.

I wish I lived in an area with Verizon FIOS, if only.

Lame, you have to have at&t uverse internet & tv and also have to have a cable box still. If this was microsoft providing iptv over your existing internet connection it would be cool.

You must supply your own Xbox 360 with hard drive.
Your Xbox cannot be your only receiver; you must have a DVR or other receiver as a primary receiver.
You must have U-verse TV and U-verse High Speed Internet.
Professional installation and a hardware kit are required.
