*sigh* Damnit MS... couldn't you play nice for this one? Now I'll never play it... I was looking forward to having some impact on EVE without having to play an MMO.

@The Loot

"I was looking forward to having some impact on EVE without having to play an MMO."

You have me confused. If you don't care about MMO's in general and don't play EVE online, why would you care about this game outside of it being fun? If you were in no way involved with the MMO, the connectivity with EVE seems very niche.

@dragunrising Something about my actions having a much larger affect than just what I see in the game. Even if I wouldn't witness it first-hand, it has an appeal, to me at least.

It's just EVE and most MMOs don't have gameplay that appeals to me (plus I dislike the idea of monthly fees for single games)

EVE is absolutely not for everyone. I've tried to play it a dozen times and never managed to get into it for long. I know a lot of other people in the same situation. nonetheless, I follow the game's politics and news and was really hoping to give Dust a shot as a way to participate.

But I won't buy a PS3 to do it. not putting this out on PC just seems like a bad idea.

So wait, do you have to play Eve Online in order to fully enjoy this?

Anyways, this looks alright, but I really don't like playing FPSs on the PS3 due to the symmetrical placement of the sticks and using the default R1 and/or the convex shaped, squishy R2 trigger for firing.

@ItsameMatt03 I imagine you can enjoy Dust without playing EVE, you will probably enjoy DUST more if you are at least aware of whats going on politically in EVE. hopefully they make the shooty bits good enough that people who aren't at all interested in EVE will still play it.

It's true; the PS3 controller is not comfortable for FPS play. I've trudged through KZ2/3 and the Resistance games on it, and never am very happy with how it feels.

The PLaystation controller it just fine for any game you choose to play with it as long as you just shut up and play it. You'll get used to any control layout if you just let yourself do it and stop resisting. But hey at least they make third party controllers with that god awful xbox layout just for ... people... like you.

Not to mention that I myself like giving myself repetitive strain injuries thanks to the 360's left thumbstick spring stiffness.

Just from seeing the few replies here I weep for CCP, this should have been a PC game, now it's going to get demolised by CoD/Battlefield/Killzone/Resistance.
Most of the EVE consumers are not happy from what I can see.

Oh well.

What I mean Captain Dictionary, is that there is a different mentality on the consoles of moving to the new hotness that isn't as prevalent on the PC, i'd know i've been both.

Every PC gamer things a FPS would be better on a PC, that's nothing new, hell there are already a hundred others out there that console gamers never even heard of, the only reason anyone is complaining is because of the fact that it might impact a PC game.

I have to say that's an interesting game play twist. Play a different game and that will have an impact in this game. But if you don't play so be it. The interesting part is a soldier on the ground is not a free wheeling cartel member riding around in a space ship, he's a soldier. So it would make an interesting kind of sense people doing things beyond his control have an impact on him. Neat concept but question is will it shift units.

I'd like to hope it will but porting an MMO to another console and updating side-by-side is damn hard to do.

Hopefully Kojima's fox engine will fix that.

@Lucky48 Nah I doubt it'd go to the 360. Microsoft have a hate on for MMO based games for some weird reason. I don't get it since it's the biggest revenue earner in the PC realm but they are control freaks when it comes to that but I could see it coming to the PC as well as the PS3.

@MrAlex Well it's done with the DCU Online game that's cross platfform MMO. It's doable time will tell. Frankly I tried Eve for the fifth time recently and just couldn't penetrate it. I used to be an old time lover of Freespace and Privateer but I don't know if my brain has calcified or what just couldn't get in to this. So to be honest I probably wont be involved but I find it an interesting challenge that they are attempting and wish them luck.

@Jenks I think it's more of an issue of MS hating anything that's MMO based. They always half support projects (Conan, Marvel, etc.) and then pull out at the last minute without ever truly explaining. My guess is it's an infrastructure/control concern. For an MMO you need regular updates and after FFXI they probably decided for a variety of reasons they didn't want to open up based on experience but they'll never admit hardware or network limitations.

To be specific, Xbox owners are paying for their own servers, to allow them out into the wild of the internet just make the point of their month fees moot. You let them interact with free people who don't have to pay just to play online and eventually those caged people will wonder why they're paying to be caged.

@Altairio It'll probably be similar to Eve itself, where you can earn money doing stuff in game, but you can also buy in-game money with actual cash.

demo didnt help ease any of my concerns at all.

concerns being:

is this going to be a epic scale of plus 100 vs. 100

or the common instance zones of 8 v. 8

For one anybody else just appreciate something new out there? I mean really. They first annouced it wasnt going to pc due to the fact it would be a conflicting revenue since they have eve. Second i think personally its gonna be nice to have a game that isnt just i shot you i win, its actually i just helped save the planet now to conquer another one.

This being only one planet among possibly hundreds of other settings. Sure the ships might have similar color schemes but that's a unifying military color thing. maybe at some point you fight guys with red or green armor or choose which faction you're a part of giving you different settings altogether.

So curious. So bold an idea. Perhaps the last truly "interactive world" MMO out there, and still tinkering with how involvement can/should be played out.

@Thrishmal I agree but then again like i stated earlier its conflicting revenues. if you put a new shooter that ties into eve on the pc you MIGHT loose half player base right there. The point is to combine two different elements, types of players into one.
