Nintendo's almost getting in the habit of announcing Pikmin games at its E3 developer roundtable events. Speaking to attendees this evening, Shigeru Miyamoto explained that while development of a new Pikmin began on Wii, it has since been moved to the company's new console, the Wii U.
Miyamoto described it as "the perfect system for Pikmin," though tried to distance himself from turning this into a corporate announcement. His non-corporate side, Miyamoto said, "really just wants to tell you we're working on Pikmin."
Since the game has been in the works for some time, Captain Olimar and his plant-like companions won't dally "too long" before they touch down in your perilous garden.

The way the controller can apparently zoom in on the big screen makes it perfect for Pikmin indeed.

@DekuTree
You can't zoom in properly. No multitouch on that resistive screen.

It's almost like he's trolling us, given that they've announced it every year since 2008
Though this time i do think they're being honest

I don't think it was ever in serious development for Wii.

Yay! Hopefully it'll finally get finished and not just taunt us every year with speculation and Nintendo developer comments.

Funny how Nintendo didn't really announce any 1st-party games for the Wii U. Another NSMB game is nice, but I was hoping for something more spectacular... StarFox, a trailer for the new Smash Bros., something.
Maybe they have some surprises for later in the week?!

I don't know, man, it launches in a year, probably. Maybe even 18 months. They probably don't have anything ready.

@tendoboy1984 I suppose Luigi's Mansion 2 counts. I mean, they didn't "announce" anything, but they had some new title up at the very end, when all of those logos popped up. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I remember Mario Party 9. OOOOOOHHHHH. And I remember the Kirby Wii logo and a Dragon Quest Monsters 2 logo.

Luigi's Mansion 2 is for the 3DS. I was talking about the WiiU.
And Dragon Quest isn't a Nintendo game, it's made by SquareEnix.

Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime's pointer controls, Wii Sports, ExciteTruck, Twilight Princess, etc. There were plenty of games shown at the Wii unveiling.

I think they get a limited amount of time to do things, really. They must run some sort of tight schedule that doesn't let them elaborate. Then again, being on the edge of my seat for Nintendo things is apart of what makes all of it worth it.

@Cleric : When they announced the 'Revolution' they didn't show any games at all. At E3 2006 the had possibly the most memorable trailer in E3 history with plenty of games for the Wii.
So I think people should wait until next year to expect to see a bunch of stuff made from Wii U hardware from the ground up. MAYBE, we will get to see a little something at the TGS.

@tendoboy1984 Dear lord, yes. That would allow me to die happy. And I really liked the licensed goods that were the collectible treasure in Pikmin 2. I remember when I found that Snapple lid I almost lost it. If Pikmin 3 involves any treasure collecting, I hope they do the same.

HD grass.
Strangely exactly what Pikmin needs. Pikmin always tried to have the best image quality textures, so HD will improve it. Pikmin themselves hopefully don't get much more detail, as their simpleness was endearing.
Bigger groups of Pikmin maybe now that there will be more processing power?

So, lets say I have a Wii right? What shoud I do? Play Skyward Sword and then nothing for another 6 month.
Would be nice if they have told me that back on E3 2010. After Donkey Kong Country Returns I would have purchased a PS3 or Xbox.
I´m mad, Nintendo.
