Wow. Nintendo won this year's E3 IMHO. Not really sold on the screen-controller thing, but the console itself looks awesome.

I'm withholding judgement, but it will take more then multi platform ports to sell me on this. Where are the specs? Original games?

A new console in 2011 that matches the power of the 360 that came out in 2005. Featuring a god awful hugeass controller and third party lineup of games I can already expect on 360/PS3.

*facepalm*

I think they won hands' down.
It was all Nintendo or Sony's to win. Xbox is having a 'bridge' year so I guess they'll come back with a vengeance next year.. they have to show something of hardware.

Sony's and Xbox was alright... they needed to get their messages across regarding their corp strategies. Nintendo needed to "wow" and I think they did that. New Hardware can trump all... they did that.

Nintendy didn't win this year. They have a lot of people curious... NG3 looks sick but I wanna know about the actual console. NOT the controller. Something doesn't seem right if they didn't mention any specs of the actual system.

Sony won this year w/ the PSV being less than $300!!!

Yeah, and that's enough for me. You know why? Because a more powerful console would mean a higher price, and considering this console will batlle with PS3 and X360 (no new consoles by Sony or Microsoft), the WiiU must also battle them in price terms. With the controller, you can expect a higher price than what you'd want from a controller, yes, but at the same time they're making a cheaper console than a high-tech one. How much could a 2005-2006 cost in manufacture terms today?

Nintendo did a very smart move. They just stepped next to the other two (graphically speaking) but they still have the Nintendo touch in its console, with an innovation that could triumph or not, but will give them the 'new' vision, and there's potential for many new ways to play games, both 'casual' and 'hardcore' (terms I disagree with, but I'm using just to make clear my idea).

They are getting PS3/X360 ports, so what? It's amazing, now there're less reasons why I would prefer PS3/X360 over WiiU. In fact, there're more reasons to prefer WiiU over the other two than to prefer PS3 over X360 or the other way. And PLUS, I'll have the Nintendo exclusives, which are always enormous, high-quality, very-to-extremely entertaining games.

@DarkTwisted My thoughts exactly, looking forward Nintendo 1st party titles in HD but as for external publishers support well..., they'll be ports of titles having being already available on the PS3/360 a year before.

So when Sony or M..soft release a new console, Nintendo will be relegated again in terms of 3rd party publishers support.

@PR0F3TA I kept wondering if Tekken actually meant Tekken, the first game in the series.

No, but I agree. I'm not the kind to declare winners or losers in a tradeshow, but showing up to a console generation half a decade later is not particularly winfull.

@Soiden I agree. Now that Nintendo has a console that developers who previously shunned them (EA, Ubisoft) are willing to support and that will hopefully have Nintendo's great first-party games, I will definitely "prefer" the WiiU over the other consoles.

Nintendo lost simply because the following games are not coming to America for the Wii:
The Last Story
Xenoblade
Pandora's Tower

With as many people as there are that want these games released here, Nintendo is missing out on some great opportunities. They probably could have pushed a good number of Wii's off shelves by bringing those games stateside.

Do I buy and play these games on the Wii-U, on that abortion of a controller, or.. do I buy them for PS3 and use my trusty DS3?

Obviously i'd imagine it'd also be Wiimote/nunchuck compatible.

I'd like to see, Wiimote/nunchuck controls, with some sort of stand to have the Wii U sitting on a table between the TV and player, giving the user Wii/Nunchuck controls and a smaller screen in front of them with a map and real-time scores and battle information.

And why is that? It's finally strong enough to play that type of game.

Of course, you'll be playing them a year after the 360 and ps3 get them, but I guess that is at least something to look forward to.

Good for developers that they now can make games for 3 consoles, thus making developing of new franchises a bit less risky!

Anyhow, I was thinking of something: Wouldn't it be quite easy for Sony to make PS3/PSV function in exactly the same way as the Wii U? It's already got the cameras, touch interface etc

I'm surprised by some of the titles on this list. Arkham City and Darksiders 2? And surely this thing is powerful enough so that it won't be inferior to the PS3 / 360 versions... in fact it'll probably be the best version! I want to know the actual system specs of this thing though. I never bought a Wii but I think Nintendo won me over again with the Wii U (still a horrible name IMO though).

Probably won't be able to tell deffinatively until E3 next year when people play the first real games. The clips they showed, especially the first one with the bird, looked absolutely beautiful but they were either concept videos or clips of games already coming out for other systems. And it sounds like all the demos the reporters will get to play have cartoon, Mario style graphics so they won't be a good judge of power.

I have high hopes though and am very excited.

Too early to say anything at this stage, but:

"Game Informer's seen the demos shown off on stage in person, and apparently it's about as nice as you'd imagine: Not quite as high quality as the other HD consoles, but definitely better than the standard Wii."

Huh. When the Wii was announced it felt so immediately obvious that the Wiimote had amazing potential. This has a similar feel, but that controller looks too big to be comfortable. This has definite potential, but it feels like more of a gamble than the Wii.

I'm also surprised that they didn't tweak the 3DS design a bit more to make it so that it can basically act as an extra tablet. We're already hearing a bit about cross functionality between the platforms, but having a firm plan that makes the portable usable instead of making players shell out cash ($100+, I'm guessing) for second bigass tablet would be a good call.

Also, beyond the tablet screen size, what can this tablet do that the PS3 + Vita theoretically can't? Serious question here - I'm wondering how many of the extra features for third party Wii U games will also end up on the PS3 via a Vita connection, and how much Sony is pursuing that crossover.

@BrianReal i guess its a good idea sony went yesterday so people dont think they are copying nintendo and Im fairly certain that sony will look for that crossover.

Now only microsoft needs to release some type of tablet thing for the 360.

@psnkillstrike I was thinking the same thing. But then Microsoft has Kinect, which is bringing in a good number of uniquely designed games, the same way that the Wii has brought in a lot of specialized ports from third parties.

The odd thing is that if this pans out things might flip a bit. It used to be that the 360 and PS3 were basically the same thing in terms of third party design. Now it's looking like the PS3 and Wii U might have most of the same features - with the Move / Vita possibilities being optional, but still present - while 360 Kinect might have the most exclusive stuff.

They didn't show or mention Revelations, they just had a developer on screen talking about Assassin's Creed, and showed an Assassin's Creed logo. I think that's probably going to be an important distinction to make.
