Hey, look, Jimi Hendrix is back from the dead to check out Nintendo's new console! See how special this thing is?

Someone please answer this one question. Can you use more than one screen controller at a time?
If you can't congrats to Nintendo for hyping people for yet another Wii.

Based on some of the comments the EA guy said, it sounds like Nintendo is pushing for online play for the kind of games where you would want more then one of these controllers i.e. all the FPSs. Alternatively, for multiplayer, they could just use classic controllers with Wiimotes.
I wonder if they could selectively stream to keep the load of pushing to more then one controller down? For the Madden example, push to the offense guy first, then to the defense.

Less controllers to buy at the beginning. Imagine if that screen were to break, you'd need a new one. Based on the look of it, doesn't that controller look pricey to replace? Based on what they showed as demos, you wouldn't need a second one.
I hope they could allow multiple in the future, but having multiple at launch, just saves me cash. I'm more concerned now with replacing the Wii motes with plus remotes. Thought I'd be able to escape that with the new console.

Sony's just re-purposing existing 3D TV technology. It's nothing innovative technologically, but it is innovative use of existing technology. What Nintendo's doing is basically wirelessly streaming video to what's basically a tablet. Again, it's just innovative use of existing technology. Maybe it's more akin to what OnLive is doing. Even though it seems like they're pushing a full game to the controller, I'd be willing to bet that all the actual gameplay is taking place on the console, not the controller, you're just using the controller as a monitor basically.
So what if they're just hyping up another Wii? Guess what Sony and MS are going to be hyping up next year or in a few years... PS4 and the third gen Xbox with probably even less new features than the Wii U.

Question is: Are you willing to pay for more?
A lot of people have been worried about the price for this thing - a lot saying that the controllers would be too expensive to purchase additional ones.
Which would you rather have? :
More games where they expect you to have more than one of these?
Or more games where they expect you to only have one of these and design games to creatively work around just one?
...realize that there are a lot of people out there who would WANT to buy more than one, but more than likely won't if additional ones are too expensive. Nintendo more than likely wanted to focus games on this crowd first and foremost before considering those who'd have the money to buy two or more.

@Syesta my issue is, if it's only one controller then you need to get wiimotes on top of that. I can sense a trick here. I can't call it but there is something wrong here.
& another thing that thing has to be seriously strong to take some falls because well it will fall.

I don't see many WiiPads with a broken strap being gently inserted into TV sets, really.
Your logic is kinda "would you imagine if my DSi/PSP/3DS break? God forbit, I'd have to buy a new one!"
Yeah, Nintendo might be tightening the limit between portable and console gaming forcibly, but I for one, have been talking about that for years. There are as many downsides as there are upsides so for the love of God would you people quit whinning about it?

Nintendo'd better call it that. Then again, they were dumb enough to stick with "Wii-Remote"...

You do realize this is more of a demo on what the system can do, right? It's not a demo for an actual game. From this, developers can then get creative and possibly create fun and innovative games. The potential is there, they just have to tap into it.

This controller would be amazing for a survival horror game. Take Aliens Colonial Marines for example, movement detector anyone? Or if in sone ghost game you were exploring a dark mansion at night and you could only see what was after you by pointing the controller at the screen. Spooky.

It's an interesting take on rhythm games or something. Maybe not one of the best tech demos so far, but I'd say it's the closest thing to a console Rhythm Heaven.

Honestly what I thought would've been a great tech demo is...
That bird video that they made? Yeah, make that an actual scenery that the player can move the controller around to view the world around them.
THAT would've been an amazing tech demo.

This looks so lame and boring.......and people give kinect crap? Give me a break! This is simply a HD Wii, not interested. Im more interested in their 3DS than their console! But hey I hope it does end up pleasing those who invest in it
Posted: Jun 8th 2011 10:25PM Kougeru said
@trunas unlike kinect this can actually be used in pretty much every game ever made without hindering the experience for hardcore gamers...even just moving a scoreboard/inventory screen is better than wasting screen space. you have no creativity if you dont see how this can change gaming

I can see this in Call of Duty, displaying the score and the minimap, maybe a heart-beat sensor, even planting and defusing bombs. It has potential, I just hope they use it right.

Y'know, this might be able to make console RTSs. . . well, better. I imagine some interesting combination of the touch pad control and using the "second window" to get a better handle on separate tactical and strategic views.

Guys guys. Stop acting like this is some amazing new tech that has untapped potential.
A controller with a screen is basically what a handheld is. This "WiiPad" is the same concept. Nintendo basically took the DS and turned it into a home console controller.
Nothing new here at all.
That being said, I'm still excited for the possibilities. RTS games will work beautifully on this thing, and the addition of Wii Remotes means I can still enjoy my pointer controls in shooters.

But with a handheld you don't have a controller with a screen that's separate from the main screen. Now you can actually move the controller screen independently, and have it be tracked to reveal other parts of the game world. The reasons why it seems so while suited to those things in your last paragraph are because it's exactly such an innovation...
It's that second window that has me most excited. I really want to sue this as a scanner or something in a scifi game.

Like the scan visor in Metroid Prime? Would you move the controller around and see scanned objects appear on it's screen?
Oh my god I just realized that's a brilliant idea. Retro Studios here I come!

Now that I think about it, this is a brilliant concept. The possibilities are endless. You could use the screen for:
- level editors in a platform game
- speed indicator in a racing game (or even as a rearview mirror)
- scan visor in Metroid Prime
- inventory screen in an RPG, or can display battle stats, character stats, etc.
- shows the map of the area you are in
- displays number of kills, headshots, winning team, gun being used, ammo remaining, radar, etc. in an FPS
- in a WarioWare game, the command appears on the controller screen, and the player holding the screen tells the other players (who are using Wii Remotes) what to do. (example: I shout "chisel it!" and the other players perform that action)

After listing those ideas, my inner Nintendo fanboy can't wait to see the other console manufacturers make their own tablet controllers... It's an amazing concept.
Another idea:
Drawing software, just look at the uDraw tablet... Same concept.
