Remedy is known for Alan Wake and Max Payne, but the studio also recently helped produce Death Rally for iOS, a game that has been very successful for the studio. Remedy Managing Director Matias Myllyrinne told us during E3 that the game recouped its development costs in three days on the App Store and took a mere eight months to develop.
"A lot of the credit goes to Mountain Sheep for developing a great fun game. We produced it, took it forward and helped - but the heavy lifting is with the dev team as always," Myllyrinne said.
We asked if the success of Death Rally has shifted the studio's priorities. "I think in terms of priorities, Remedy will continue to do what we do best. We love our big movie-like story driven action games - but it is also about applying these strengths in new ways too. There are awesome things happening with digital stuff like XBLA, Steam, iPhones etc. Where you can build a killer value and fun at a low price point and still make money."
No comment on Alan Wake's Night Springs.

I'm all for them making some good smaller games if that means they'll make more money to put back in the bigger games. It's a win win situation. More quality games for moi.

Maybe they can use that money on better animation tech for the next Alan Wake game. Those character faces and animations were an absolute joke for a supposed "AAA" console game.

If this turns up as an excuse not to make more Alan Wake games...

Wow never heard of death rally.

@Hawaii Jeff It first came out in the mid-nineties for Apogee (who later became 3D Realms). I loved the PC version back in the day.
No wonder it had such a short dev cycle, I guess most of the assets are reused from the PC version of old?

The original version was all 2D sprites in very, very low resolution. This one couldn't have reused assets from it.

This means we can expect PSN and XLBA ports, right? RIGHT???
Seriously guys, TAKE OUR MONEY. I would buy Death Rally on BOTH platforms!

I gotta say, hell of an awesome game. So far, Remedy can do no wrong. I looked up some footage of the original Death Rally, and can't say I was impressed. Mountain Sheep deserves some credit for this terrific game, which, unlike most others, works fantastically on a touchscreen - the "thumbstick" works very well.
As for focus, I of course want more Alan Wake (and for them to buy back Max Payne), but I think they should divert a small percentage of their resources towards mobile gaming. Double Fine had their 4-week brainstorming session that gave us the wonderful games Costume Quest, Stacking, Trenched and Once Upon A Monster. I think in general more teams should have small groups working on new innovative ideas for the mobile market because it's definitely a completely different direction that requires different thinking and could give birth to more fantastic ideas.
And yes, I vote for a XBLA port as well, a much more fleshed out one. After finishing the game, I'd really like some more content to play around with.
