All Sonic Generations 3DS levels to be platform-exclusive (save for Green Hill Zone)

After showing E3 attendees a new level in Sonic Generations, game producer Takashi Iizuka highlighted some of the extra content that can only be found in the 3DS version. "One important thing to say about the Nintendo 3DS version is that besides Green Hill Zone, which is the starting zone on all versions, all the stages on the Nintendo 3DS version will be different from the stages that are seen in the PS3 and 360," Iizuka said.

Generations will revisit and remix levels from Sonic's entire history, including his Genesis and Dreamcast outings, but only the 3DS game may borrow stages from older handheld games. "For the PS3 and 360, none of the stages we're selecting are going to be from the handheld," Iizuka explained during a brief Q&A session. "However, on 3DS we're looking at picking stages from handheld as well."

The portable version of Generations will also offer a special stage, a two-player versus mode and a battery life that should effortlessly summon nostalgia for Sonic's Game Gear days.

I might have to get this 3DS in order to actually to be able to say why I do or do not like it...but I need games (mainly RPG's) that will entice me to get it.

@Jimjamyaha shame on you. you dont know how to appreciate the true beauty of the new sonic including a game that debuted on the 10th anniversary of sonic (SA2B) that game was spectacular and people are mad just because it wasnt an 16 bit game that was a 2d side scroller with only one objective. dont get me wrong i also love the oldschool sonic. but all the people who say that new sonic sucks never read the comic series (look up sonic comic world on youtube) and i consider that a crime for any sonic fan so i dare call you a noob.

Awesome, but the in-game version better have Escape from the City as the BGM. For Modern Sonic, at least.

i sure hope so cause i've lost all trust in Sonic games by now.

hopefully this wont be as much as a letdown for me as Sonic4 or the 2 lame next-gen Sonics.

For me, Sonic 4 was rubbish because of the really bad sonic animation, horrible movement, boring backgrounds and it was too zoomed in. It looks like all of this has been fixed in Sonic Generations.

Hopefully you'll get to pick between the Classic and New instead of having to play both. I loathe new Sonic.

Yeah that boost gameplay crap really kills it, this game should have been Dreamcast Era sonic and Classic Sonic and let the "Modern Sonic" rot somewhere far away from any games.

Hands on Impressions said the 3DS version plays like Sonic 4, including the immediate stop with no momentum thing. Just a heads up.

It has my interest otherwise. I liked Colors on DS and Wii... and I'm pretty much the opposite of a Sonic fanatic.

All that video has done is make me want a new Sonic Adventure. I played number 2 for ages, which is probably down to the chao and multi-player modes. Such a good game.

game looks like sonic 4 and on top of that mario 3ds looks graphically better. its like sega wasn't even trying with this game.

Isn't this just a lame excuse for the fact that they weren't able to port the Xbox/Playstation levels to the 3DS?

This just in: TombRaider Gameboy has entirely exclusive levels, rumours of it being a mere Playstation port weren't true.

id also like some of the sonic advance stages to return too.. this sounds good if the hand held version was pretty much all remade portable levels... heres hoping it isnt as lame as sonic 4 was though..

It will be pretty if I end up playing through remade versions of some Game Gear Sonic 2 and maybe even Sonic Chaos levels. It'd also be pretty funny if they threw in "Green Hills Zone" from the Game Gear Sonic 2 whose third act is like something out of "I Wanna Be the Guy". There was a darn good reason why acts 1 and 2 had a LOT of rings and 1up's.

WOW the trailer where he knocks down the 25 story tall totem pole got me hooked the graphics look great
