Rage delayed until October 4

The last known release date for iD Software's apocalyptic FPS Rage was September 13, as announced last year. Apparently, however, iD needs a bit more time to get things nice and apocalyptic (and, um, to get out of the way of Gears of War 3, we're guessing).

The official site now lists the release date as October 4. The European release date has been bumped to October 7. We don't know how to react to this news that the game has been delayed. Like, we don't know what emotion to feel.

Yeah, seriously. When was the last actually good movie Tom Hanks has done? He's a brilliant actor. At least the Coen brothers appreciate John Goodman.

I just read this article on some crappy website about the worst last movies, and the Flintstones was on there for Elizabeth Taylor's worst/last. Transformers for Orson Welles, Street Fighter for Raul Julia; there were some real soul crushers on that list.

How do I get my profile picture to change? I went into settings and uploaded my picture and have waited the '5 minutes' that it's supposed to take to change avatar pictures. Are there any rules governing what pictures can and cannot be used? The one I uploaded is a sports logo for the Phillies.

Also, is there a 'contact us' section on joystiq? I couldn't find one, and would prefer to send this question to tech support instead of posting it in the comments.

You nned a fairly small resolution... I've also found that square dimensions work best. You can also try clearing your internet stuff and reload the page as new.

What browser are you using? I found in the past that Camino (mac), Firefox and Chrome all upload the profile pic better than IE.

Thanks for the pointers Johnny5. I tried uploading a new picture sized 150x150, cleared my internet temporary data, and I use google Chrome to browse.

I'll give it some time to see if it updates, but I'm not very hopeful.

Still wondering if there is a tech support contact for joystiq.

also keep in mind that it does not happen instantly... its going to take minutes if not hours. be patient. Why do you think i never actually bothered to change mine in the 3+ years i been here

Ive tried uploading a few images, all small file sizes that are small dimensions and none of them work for me. I just get the red "x" of doom. Oh well...

@PR0F3TA - I've tried uploading new profile pictures as well. It never works. I've tried different browsers, different image resolutions, different file formats, etc, and nothing.

I've given up trying. This profile picture may have been a joke (we were all trying to make the most ridiculous images with Mario hats, if memory serves) but it has served me well enough.

@PR0F3TA - Yeah, I suppose so. The last one I tried to upload was just a cleaned up version of my current avatar (if you look at the bigger version on my profile page, it is kind of poorly shopped) but even that wouldn't properly upload.

Maybe they will actually add Blake Griffin to the game? The Blake Griffin ad is one of the few ads that haven't annoyed me during the playoffs. Man do I hate the talking basketball ones.

HAHA yeah those talking basketball ones were funny the first time but since then they are mad annoying. Still, the fact this finals series has been the best series in NBA history totally makes up for any kind of lame commercial. Those Blake Griffin ads are really funny.

Everyone is saying because of Gears but I don't think that's the reason. Resistance 3 is going to releasing that same month. Resistance 3 is what I'm getting anyways.

Hopefully itll be better than Brink.

On an unrelated note, I'm accidently clicking this stupid Alienware ad like 15 times a day. Making all the white space to the sides an invisible ad? Kinda low there, Joystiq.

I'm still on the sidelines with this one...After doom 3...I'm still iffy about the fruits of ID in the modern age....I have a lot of respect for John Carmack...

that's because id hasn't really made a leap to this generation of consoles yet. there's quake 4, but that's not developed by id, nor is wolfenstein. besides, have you ever known id to be a console developer? give them some time, you know they deserve it.

Booo. Saw a trailer for this today and it got me all excited, especially the bit about being released in September.

I'm feeling an emotion because of this announcement. If only there was a word that can express exactly what I am feeling right now.....

*shrug* it's probably for the best, in carmac's interview he seems really disappointed by the state of the PC version, and there were plenty of people who were less than thrilled with what they saw of the game.

My guess is that after Bring had such a rocky launch, Duke forever is looking like a bomb (instead of "the" bomb), and PC gamers bitching about Rage being a console port; Id was able to pressure their overlords into giving them more time to fix things up.

I mean, lets be honest here, I really don't think the PC FPS genera can take another disappointment on the chin. I can't think of a single high profile FPS game that has launched on the PC this year to good reviews (and rightfully so, Homefront anyone?) but the players still shelled out for them anyway, and as a result the tolerance dam is on the verge of busting. It could be a (possibly) shitty release of Rage that set people over the "I don't care if it's something I have been waiting for, I'm not gonna buy it!" or it could be some other game ... it probably will be something else, but I don't think Bethesda wants to take that chance.

Always amuses me how people type "id".

ID, iD, id. And it's confused people for years if it's Eye Dee or "id" as in kid.

My understanding is it's id, pronounced like "kid". Id as in id, ego, and superego.

Not sure why Joystiq goes with the "iD", when that's not what their logo looks like.

(Not a fanboy rage thing (pun!), just a curiosity)

@Lucky48 - My question is "Have Rage and Twisted Metal been sent to die against Battlefield 3, Dark Souls, and Arkham City?"

Personally, this is great. September releases (including RAGE) + an eventual backlog of upcoming summer games was becoming a bit of a killer. At least now there's a tiny tiny bit of breathing room between a few major releases in which I'm interested.
