I liked a lot of what Shattered Memories did for the series, but those trial-and-error ice levels and horrible Wii controls were both such profound design failures that I won't be so quick to trust the same team.

That said, I am confident that they'll be able to produce something better than Homecoming. That game was soulless.

Dammit Joystiq you still didn't post my tip on KORN writing the new theme song and fans, hating the idea, starting an online petition against it! Hilarious!!

I'm really excited for Downpour. It looks like a great mix of features from the series. Hopefully the story is captivating.

I lost faith in Silent Hill after SH3. I want to enjoy the newer games, but it just doesn't have the same effect as the earlier ones. Maybe it's because I was barely a teenager when I first played Silent Hill 2 and was much more easily scared than I am now, or maybe the games have lost the original atmosphere and flare for story-telling that I loved with the first few games. Either way, I'm not holding my breath for Downpour. I want it to be everything a true Silent Hill sequel should be, but I think that time has long passed. I'll stick with the remakes, they'll do me.

@jamiepgs I liked the earlier ones because it really went down to the knitty gritty of what the protagonists psyche was like. Team silent liked having Silent Hill be unique for each individual that visits it. They weren't overt about these elements and wanted the player to figure out the protagonist's connection to Silent Hill. Oh yeah no Yamaoka soundtrack in this game disappoints me so, so much!

I have no complaints about any of the silent hills. I have enjoyed them all, 3 being my favorite. Any fan of true silent hill fan can tolerate because no matter what comes out, what the next games holds, its a hell of a lot better than nothing. Enjoy the downpour or stay inside.

I feel I'm in the minority here, but less Shattered Memories and more Homecoming is really want I am hoping for. SH has always been my absolute favorite series and SM was a gigantic disappointment for me, so I'm hoping this isn't too much like it.

Not that it matters... Konami is still getting my money.

There's nothing wrong with preferring action more so than horror man. Homecoming wasn't all that bad.

Your comment felt a little passive aggressive...

It's not that i prefer 'action" over "horror", I just didn't like Shattered Memories.

@EndynOmni It wasn't bad up until that one part in the last part of the game.

@Punisher M1911 But there is something wrong with preferring more action from a series that is one of the few remaining horror franchises. RE has gone completely action, why can't SH be kept for horror? Isn't there enough action games on the market?

There is not nothing wrong with preferring action more so than horror. I was simply saying that there isn't anything wrong with him preferring a certain thing over something else. People are different from each other. People like different things. Trust me, I would rather see a really scary silent hill game than an action packed silent hill game. By the way, it's pretty funny how you have a Homecoming picture but aren't sticking up for homecoming.

But for a game that gained its popularity by using psychological fear...then yeah horror is kinda more important than action.

Yeah well, you use the same formula over and over and people complain about it being "dated" then you try something different and people cry about it not having the same "feeling". Silent hill 2's story is as good as it gets. Besides, I was only saying if that's a preference, then that's a preference. Some people aren't into the older silent hills I'm not gonna give them shit for liking a newer one that's more action oriented. At least in homecoming it made sense for Alex because he was a veteran. Well, kind of a veteran Lol.

Sigh.... when has the combat ever been smooth? Has noone ever played silent hill 2??? Lol. Can't wait for downpour. Hell, I can't wait to see whats next. I won't be doing any bitching so long as the silent hill franchise doesn't get get canned. You know what, no matter they do, people will always say that its not as good as the originals. I guess people will always bitch.

@Punisher M1911 I agree, combat was never smooth and it didn't need to be really. It kinda irks me that a lot of horror franchises go for action and cheap scares rather than ambience, atmosphere, and true psychologicAl fear. The so called westernization of games can be either good or bad. I feel that silent hill lost something when team silent stopped making them, but I'm still intrigued by Silent Hill. It has a way of drawing you back in for more.

That's what I like to hear! No matter what comes, I'm always gonna buy. I love silent hill. I especially love Mary Elizabeth mcglenn. She's still around, there's still apart of the old. Sucks about akira yamaoka. And honestly, that's what drew me into shadows of the dammed!

These spammers are getting a little ridiculous on this site. I know you can't stop them all but damn...

Haven't played a Silent Hill game fully since The Room (which I loved). I'll keep this game on my "check reviews out when it hits shelves" list.

Not crazy about them using the Unreal Engine. Every single game I've ever played that used it always had a problem with blurry and late textures.

Right and silent hill had no influence what so ever. Silent hill didn't make Remedy want to do a psychological video game. No.......... By the way, the only thing alike between Alan wake and twin peaks was the setting. Alan wake was influenced by Stephen kings shit. Twin peaks is David lynch. You do know who that is right O.o? omfg, he was one the main influences for silent hill! Imagine that. So yeah. Thank silent hill for Alan wake and chicky-check yo self before you wreck yo self son.

- Unreal Engine 3

- KoRn doing the game's main track

- No Akira Yamaoka

- Some unknown developer that made the Rush 'n Attack reboot

Yeah, these things don't exactly inspire confidence.

I wish I wasn't such a goddamned pussy. Both Silent Hill and the Saw movies are fascinating from a narrative perspective: I just don't have the stomach to sit through the actual gameplay/scenes.

Even though i know nothing about this game and therefore cannot make claims about its quality i have to say.... i liked it better when the "reality" change was not real time. I remember going in a tunnel or underground, a siren sounding off in the distance, so mysterious and so eerie. Then next thing you know you're in a horrible place you want to run away from.

Ah... those where the days!
