I love Darksiders. It's like a smart, stylish God of War mixed with a more mature, badass Zelda. Super stoked for part 2.

The first one was pretty good but I never got around to finishing it. Some of the puzzles in that game were really hard and the combat got repetitive. One of the things I loved was the quality of the voice acting. Good stuff. Still, passing on the sequel.

I think part of the reason I love this game so much is because it fell more towards the zelda side than the gow side. Would like to see more open-world stuff like zelda. Darksiders 1 felt mostly linear.

I also want to say how I find it refreshing to hear a nintendo fan like yourself praise darksiders instead of bashing it for being an homage to Zelda. Most nintendo fans had nothing but insults. Hopefully with DS2 coming to WiiU we will get some real opinion on the series and not vitriol.

Like God of War? Why not? It plagiarized just about every other game's mechanics. What's the harm in a few more unoriginal ideas?

And yet, it was a great game. They were also very open with their inspirations, so I'd hardly call it plagiarism, it's more along the lines of an homage to the great work of those that came before.

Because God of war was nothing like devil may cry right? Which pre-dated gow by 4 years I might add.

Read my comment below. God of War is the epitome of taking inspiration and improving upon it. Not blatantly copy/pasting it. Big difference here.

Eh, whatever. I'm just pissed off at something else. You guys are right, I actually liked Darksiders, so I'm kind of just criticizing everything right now. Lol

My comment was ignorant and I retract it.

Yeah, Darksiders was a great game... it took a little of everything and blended it together quite well. Dante's Inferno on the other hand took a bit too much from God of War but somehow messed it up though.

Looking forward to the sequel...

why do people always say that almost every hack-n-slash game is a God of War clone or "reminds them of GoW" or is GoW rip-off? its not like GoW was the first of its genre... -_-

Not the first but it is the best. That's why people make the comparisons ... GoW is the best hack n slash series ever.

No but God of War was the evolution of Hack n Slash games. Just like Devil May Cry before it and I would say Bayonetta after it. But I don't think Bayonetta is revolutionary enough to call it an evolution. Though it is close. God of War was the first to do the whole Square button for light attacks and Triangle for heavy in a way that felt fluently. I'm not saying it was the first to adopt that control style, but it was definitely the first to do it so well.

God of War plays differently than Devil May Cry, which also plays differently than Ninja Gaiden, and so on and so forth. When I compare a game of its ilk to GoW, it's because of that fact, not because it's a Hack 'n Slash.

I beg to differ. Ninja Gaiden (XBOX) also used (extremely well) one button for light attacks (X) and one button for heavy attacks (Y) that could be used to propagate combos.

Ninja Gaiden release date: 03.02.2004

God of War release date: 03.22.2005

What God of War did was introduce the "timed button press" mechanic to the genre and is, in my opinion, one of the most over-rated games ever released; fun, but not the amazing bench mark everyone wants to make it.

Down vote me to Hell... if you dare.

Guessing you haven't play the third iteration. You won't get far spamming square.

Tell me which hack n slash games are superior. God of War 3 is probably one of the 15 best games ever made in any genre.

Ninja Gaiden Black, Bayonetta, and Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition. That's just my opinion though. GoW doesn't satisfy me quite as much as those three games.

@bountblank I know its not popular the opinion around here but a lot of the johnny-come-lately Hack and Slash games have borrowed from GoW. DMC and Ninja Gaiden feels nothing like GoW and you never hear people compare those games. GoW DMC and NG all are hack and slash games and they all feel different. So that "all hack and slash games" thing just don't fit. It is what is.

I enjoyed Ninja Gaiden and DMC but couldn't get through Bayonetta... Also, those games are more similar to each other than to GoW.

I agree with Johnny5, GoW is one of the top games in any genre. And for the guy who said, you can get through GoW spamming the square button, I'm sure it would make it a bit harder and I think you could do that with most hack/slash games. So what is your point really?

Of course its like god of war, every action game ever made is like it. Even the ones that came before it! God of War is the only action game in existence, so let's compare everything to it!

Conan plagiarized God of War.

Darksiders took the Zelda format almost exactly and gave it visceral combat (which yes, happens to look alot like God of War's combat).

Darksiders is deep enough with plenty of other inspiration from other games to distinguish itself from GoW. I think it's hardly fair to claim they plagiarized it.

Dear everyone,

Please stop saying the God of War games are "hack 'n slash". You simply can't just mash one or two buttons and complete those games.

You do hack, and you do slash, but there's a lot more to the combat than that.

Possibly one of the worst additions to games in a long time. Screw having interesting boss fights. Just mix in random QTEs with repeatable "action" segments and you're G2G... Ugh.

Darksiders Death was already designed 2 years ago for the game... they stuck close to their original version:

I'm looking forward to DarkSiders 2, it could be a really great game!
But is it just me that finds it a little off that he basically just said "We really wanted to make the character feel a lot different to War, to have a different type of personality and style... but if you don't like it you can change it."
It's good to have some variety in the game play, but just something about the way he phrased it made it sound odd to me.

Love how they're taking different approaches at copying other games this time.
And the franchise is supposed to have one game for each horseman or so, will be cool seeing how they spin things with each new game.

I've always liked the feel of DMC over GOW.

However, in my honest opinion, its the theme/enviroment that sells these games.

DMC: Gothic/Demonic with a stylish flare.
GOW: Mythic with gore in every spectacle.
NG: Urban with folklore plus endless blood.
DS: Apocalyptic with RPG elements.
Bayonetta: Same as DMC except Angelic.

The RPG elements they are adding could be interesting, but it makes me wonder if Strife's game will be an RTS or something.
