@Disco Ball
Am I the only person with hands large enough to actually miss this thing?
I mean I hate the black and white buttons, the bumpers for the 360 controller are so much better, but the controller itself was the only one I've ever held that actually felt like it belonged in my hands.

@Milak Pelican put out some great 3rd party controllers (I think the ones I had were gamestop branded) that duplicated the white and black buttons on the shoulders as well, basically beating the bumper/trigger layout we have now to the punch. I don't see why they couldn't do that to a new duke if they ever decided to mass produce them again.

Bring back the duke!

It was definitely my preferred controller last gen, amazingly comfortable and it's the controller (along with Halo) that showed people FPS can be taken seriously on consoles.

not really. i actually liked it. it fit my hands pretty much perfectly, though it is damn ugly. anyway, like the article says, it's not like they're mass producing them.

Always wondered why Microsoft made these things with such a huge Xbox logo in the middle of the controller.

Do they think I would forget that I was playing on a Xbox?

@xiLeShadow Because they couldn't figure up what else to do with the big expanse that came about when they covered up the hole that the VMU showed through on the Dreamcast controller when they copied it.

@Mmmmz They licensed the Dreamcast Controller fair and square at that time. Infact SEGA also used Microsoft Sidewinder stuff at all times for their PC game demos. SEGA and MS did alot more together back then. So nothing was bastardized or changed.. it just is the SEGA Megadrive Analogue controller continued. Yes it is that old, the Megadrive/GEnesis Analogue controller was the model which the Saturn 3D controller was based on and then the Dreamcast controller was based ont hat. Infact all of them had Analogue triggers, including the Megadrive one. Most people dont'know that, as it would question their Idea sof NIntendo thinking of Analogue sticks on Controll pads (and they don't want to admit that SEGA and Atari where first in that respect ;)). But the general design of the thing is just that old. But since it is popular to like Dreamcast these days, even though none of you jerks bought ti at the time and wend for a PS2 (Yup still hate you SOny Fanboys for that.. you suck! *hugs his Saturn AND his Dreamcast*) It is funny how you now scream foul at Microsoft and demand Radient Silvergun and Dreamcast games for your Sony systems :P.

PS: Yes this is trolling a bit, but not only ;). It gives an old SEGA fanboy some...pleasure of lost time to see them beg for games they first shunned.

It's silly really, but the original controller kept me away from the XBOX for a long time. I had used it a couple of times but it always felt wrong, a bit like a bloated Dreamcast controller with oddly placed face buttons. It wasn't until they introduced the S controller that I really took to the console.

It's a neat little promo, but I'm sure Microsoft and most XBOX gamers are glad to be rid of the Duke.

Best controller ever. My gigantic hands have never been so appreciative of a controller since these. One of the original reasons I went with the Xbox (That, and the stick placement is so much smarter than Playstation's controllers (And I say this as an avid PS3 fan)).

even I have medium-sized hands and the original xbox controller was awesome, it was very comfortable. the xbox 360 controller is better with the triggers, but the size does make my hands cramp at certain times. one of the main reasons i never liked the ps2, the controller just hurts my hands. I really want a ps3 for the awesome games, but the controller turns me off.

if both microsoft and sony offered more than one shape of controller, i bet more people would take to the other's systems. people just get used to one control scheme after a while.

@Demon G Sides Indeed the Old Spice Man would agree, after the Hello Ladies.. he would announce he also is a Duke Fan... or at least a fan of the Megadrive Analogue controller Family Line. A MAN's controller line.. unlike the pussy small ones that you can break in two by looking at em, that crack and squeak when things get difficult.

It sucks.

Even if you have huge hands and think it might be for you, you probably don't remember how awful the black and white buttons were in placement and feel when you pressed them (too bumpy).

The D-pad was better than the 360 one, but that's saying very little.

Way to throw in one more cheap shot at Duke Nukem Forever, especially considering the many people who disagreed and thought the review was unjustified.

Anyway, I have fond memories of Halo with these controllers.
