Because they can.

These are their skills, and they want to use them. There's no way to use them "legally" yet (like a CIA Counter-Terrorist) so this is all they have.

Those answers are more the product of rage than real thought, honestly guys think about it. There have been attacks before yes....but lately those attacks have increased, and even been very specific so far, it´s kind of strange..... everything started after the famous jailbreak, now i´m not saying that´s the reason, but after that this attacks have increased in number and against big games companies, it´s weird......

Yeah. I had skills I wanted to practice and couldn't yet as a youngster too.

But other than going through an abundance of hand cream, practicing those skills didn't hurt anything (or anyone else).

This is like saying it was okay for neighborhood hooligans to steal bicycles because they couldn't legally use their skills to be big time cat burglars yet. What they are doing is illegal. They are breaking into other people's info and stealing it. It's no different that breaking and entering into someone's home and nicking their family silver.

@Shadowbender They don't really own anything huge to hack. It's not like they're out there running big services like Sega or Sony. It'd be a lot harder to track them down and hack into their personal networks.

I just don't get it. I can almost understand why they did it to sony but now it's just nonsensical attacks. It doesn't seem like there's a motive, like they're after anything in particular other than to be world renowned as douches.

"I can almost understand why they did it to sony but now it's just nonsensical attacks"

THATS WHY... because if it applies to one then it must apply to others, right? What did Sony exactly do to "almost understand" what the hackers did? All i saw was them trying to stop pirating and hacks on their system.

I hope this doesn't affect any Steam users of Spiral Knights, who use their Steam login (it's purely automatic, I'm assuming through the Cloud) to get into the game.

If it does.... UGH.

It IS the same service. Your Steam username and password is what you use to access the Steam version of Spiral Knights. So yeah, I'd like to know if my Steam password was part of this hack.

I only logged onto the damn game for a TF2 hat, and now I get to stress over this. Brilliant.

@cypherigon We should all be safe because Spiral Knights actually has three databases to login. Steam's, Its own, and Sega Pass. What was hacked was the Sega Pass database so everyone who uses Steam or the other option should be fine and dandy.

Who actually uses Sega Pass anyway? Can't you just get one of the many compilation discs Sega released for cheaper or use an emulator?

Then it's big cornholin' time in the clink. Enjoy that, basement dwellers.

This is not Lulzsec's work

1) They always announce who they hack

2) They said they promise to never harm Nintendo and Sega

the Nintendo "hack" they did a while ago was exactly what they said, a warmup. It did no harm to the website.

Sega PASS was actually most recently used with Phantasy Star Online: BB, and Phantasy Star Universe. Luckily, passwords WERE encrypted(good on Sega for that at least), and these will be needed to play PSO 2. Which I'm looking forward to.

On the subject of the people "breaching" all these gaming websites... they really are hurting people and not companies. So I honestly don't understand why this crusade continues.

The action taken by sega is exactly what Sony should have done when they detected the breach in security. That, and not saving their users' passwords in plain text. Kudos Sega.
