Continuing his week of video game-themed coverage, Jimmy Fallon played host to Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime last night. Check out the video below to see The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword in action, and to hear Reggie talk up the Wii U, which will apparently launch "in 2012, after April."

Saw this on DVR this morning. Twas awesome.
But I see Nintendo's trick: the people who don't have 3DS's are practically forced to buy one now as they see a cipy of OoT sitting idle, waiting to feel the touch of a 3DS slot.

Just be glad that video games are FINALLY breaking in to mainstream American culture.
I mean, we've had people promoting books, movies, TV shows and music on late night TV for half a century.
It's a bout time gaming became "for everyone" enough to come to us for a change!

lol did Jimmy Falon just break the game and prove that waggling is more productive than precise movement..
Reggie just kept on encouraging him to waggle "There you go, there you go" lol
gotta love Jimmy Falon for screaming at the TV :)

heheyeyyyyyy, yeah. I remember seeing the same thing for TP.
SWING THE REMOTE!
SWOOOOOOSSSHHHHHHH!!!
The Gamecube version of that game was far superior because of the controls, save for a couple items that fit well with the IR function.
What I find disappointing here is we clearly see waggle happening, and we have no other control option and no Gamecube version coming and for an IP from N that is as they often phrase themselves - a tittle for the 'core' gamers and knowing that large numbers of N customers jumped ship this gen (I did, did you?) - there's no optional control schemes that would utilize a standard controller.
While I understand there is a design aspect, but isn't a trait of great design something that would manifest itself, or rather lend itself to multiple control options? I know it has it's times, but for mii...I enjoy playing those kinds of games on a standard controller. It's my time to tune out, not be waggling or cursing the sunlight.

Is it just me or does Reggie's 3ds camera muh higher than the stock 3ds cameras? I was sorely disappointed at how bad the 3ds camera was, especially after forking in 250 bucks on the thing.

@Mandarusuke I hate typing on ipod touch grr. I meant that it looked like his camera is of much higher quality than my 3ds

My guess is WiiU will come out next Christmas, as much as it sucks to say so. I really hope its the summer though. Considering there weren't any games shown at E3 and the hardware didn't seem to be finalized it seems like it will still be a little while.

@skinnyjim I don't think Nintendo can afford to wait that long. As soon as MS and Sony show their hand it'll most likely blow the Wii U out of the water...so they need to squeeze in sales before people have other options for a next-gen system. Once the next Xbox and whatever else is released, Nintendo will start pushing out the next Mario, the next Metroid, etc.
There's a long discussion on this topic in this week's Rebel FM, if you're curious about this stuff.

Nintendo cant release the Wiiu before next E3, there'd be no buzz behind it without a big press roll out with people really only pay attention to at E3. The controller gimmick is already wearing off and the system wont even be out before xmas 2011 so they need to ride a big showy entrance. I would have said the nextbox would have premiered next E3 but there's really nothing for either sony or ms to really be scared of Nintendo is 5 years late to this generation and starting from scratch. Sony is pretty much saying right now "Sure we're working on a new console but we're in no rush to release it." If sony's not worried neither is MS even though they'd more than likely be the first to jump the gun.
With the Wiiu Nintendo has to build a user base from the ground up using mostly games that will already be or already have for some time been available for the other systems that millions already have. It doesn't even play movies except for netflix which all three current systems already do. So the Wiiu faces a huge uphill battle from the casuals who barely play their Wiis now and arent going to care about dropping another 300 bucks on a system and the people who already have far more capable current gen systems, even if the graphics do look a little nicer which I doubt will be that noticeable since they'll be ports from 360 code. That controller might have a slight edge but really how many developers are going to bother to use it, if history tells us anything the best uses will be from Nintendo themselves and 3rd parties will have weak tacked on last minute ideas. The Nintendo hardcore will pick it up for the first party titles, but as time has also shown that's not enough to take a number one slot.
Sony and MS could actually give the wiiu a whole year to exist in the market along side of their systems and them blow them away at E3 2014 with REAL next gen systems that blow it away.

This was a better presentation than the E3 conference. I'm not even kidding. At least here I know what Nintendo is doing. Based on this I'm excited about Kid Icarus and Skyward Sword.

To be fair, when Jimmy flailed at Stalfos(?) when he was guarding he got knocked on his ass. Wasn't until he gave him a three second window the flailing worked.

well still he beat it faster than you'd do if you did it as Nintendo intends you to do.. he was basically able to strike 3-4 times in 1 second thanks to going crazy lol
i find it funny that Nintendo made this whole system around being precise and preventing waggling and it took only 15 seconds with Jimmy Fallon to break down all that work lol

@dakun88 I'm sure flailing the controller won't work with EVERY fight, though.

So you can defeat a Stalfos by flailing in Skyward Sword, that was pretty disapointing.

You can also beat Crackdown easily by keeping your distance, sniping, running, then repeating over and over again.
Doesn't make it any fun though.

Hopefully in August or later. I'm trying to get a summer intensive language study tour in Japan, and i'm not paying Japanese rates for a Wii U that's likely to be region-locked anyway

I don't even hear it how Nintendo wants me too. I don't hear it as the "Wii" and then "You." Instead, all I hear is onomatopoeia, kind of like a siren.
"Hey, are you gonna buy the WEEEE-YOUUUU WEEE--YOUUUU WEEEE-YOUUUU"
