Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja: Storm Generations revealed
44
Look, we'll admit it: we're spectators when it comes to this Naruto thing. Honestly, it feels like the world is playing a joke on us. Is Naruto a guy? A mythical dragon god beast king? A lunch special at the take-out place around the corner?
Jokes aside, another entry in the long-running video game series has been revealed in the latest issue of Shonen Jump magazine (via Siliconera). No consoles have been mentioned yet, but the premise seems simple enough: more fighters, both young and Shippuden versions; more unnecessarily lengthy pre-fight dialog; more of the Naruto timeline to play through. It's the Dragon Ball Z formula in full effect, we assume.
But, hey, if you're trying to make sense of this all, relax -- we know a guy.

As someone who doesn't like Naruto, these games seem pretty cool (I at least enjoyed the demo).

I thought the narutimate hero games on PS2 were pretty solid fighters and it was too bad they never were released in the US, I was happy when I got to play Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 on the 360... until I realized how badly they dumbed down the game.
I don't think the series will ever go back to a strategic fighter with multi-teired stages... but I guess making another gorgeous button masher makes more money

@Shiroi Kaze The Narutimate Hero games did make it to the states under the "Ultimate Ninja" games.

Oh wow... you're right... they actually did US ports of the games 4 years after they were out in Japan. :P Anyway I felt the mechanics were superior in the PS2 games... it feels like the current gen CC2 Naruto games are targeted more towards kids and the casual crowd... I'm much more looking forward to Asura's Wrath.

I know how you feel. In Naruto Ultimate Ninja, every character had some unique style, a handful of jutsus, and no stupid DBZ-style combat. I don't want full 3D, as it turns into over-glorified lock-on combat, rather than, y'know, a fighter. 2D with tiers was the way to go, it was just faster and better that way, at least for me. I will miss the insane combat styles the games had, like Gaara's sand waves, and Temari's fan attacks...
After Namdai refused to bring Naruto UItimate Ninja 5 over to the US, I stopped buying Namdai games at all, as I got tired of them waving sweet candy in our face, like the several Tales games that never made it over. This will likely be the exact same thing.

Holy nine tails batman, this awesome news.
I just wish Japanese developers would stop giving their games stupidly long titles.
I'm looking at you SquareEnix, you are the main offender.

Same exact situation here. Not going lie though, I find myself more and more disinterested in it recently. I have the last 8 chapters to catch up on. This is coming from a guy who hasn't waited over a week since he was 13 to catch on up the latest chapter. So sad....

@bloodlinejake I'm 20 and I'm a fan. No shame though - the show takes absolute advantage of your expectations of shounen anime then totally turns them around by the Shippuden series
I agree, this war arc hasn't been great. At least now Kishi is building up to the more exciting fights.

Been reading Naruto for nearly 10 years now - I'm 21.
I was pleasantly suprised when I played Ultimate Ninja Storm 2. I seriosuly didn't expect that good of a game.
And there's soemthing wonderful about just tearing shit up as your favorite characters.

You think that's something to be ashamed of?
You apparently have not seen the 30-40 year old men who like watching cartoons about young girls and their awkward encounters with boys.
By the way I'm 21 and I don't care if anyone thinks I shouldn't be watching cartoons. Rather watch Naruto than Jersey Shore or any of those other popular reality shows.

There are so many posts on this site I want to say "OK, great..." at.
I don't because it's tasteless and says nothing. Given my distaste for Naruto...

Joystiq is seriously missing out on an experience of anime wonderment.
I'm 25 and started watching Naruto, from the beginning, eight months ago. Naruto and Naruto Shippuden showcase the social interactions and implications of generational mischief in a rampant expose of our own self-reflection in this time. This was especially true as you watch the show from the beginning, seeing how the younger Team 7 and others of that generation, growing up to take responsibility for the society their parents have created for them.
I love anime and haven't watched american TV in 3 years. Very pround of that.

With the announcement of a new PSP game and rumours of a third Ninja STORM game coming, I would presume that this is the next PS3/360 title. I'll definitely buy this one too.
The first game was pretty neat, but the second one was probably more fun just because it flowed better without the big cutscenes (probably done for online play). I definitely think there were plenty of areas to improve on, so I hope they do so.

If the Joystiq writers want to know more about Naruto, I'd honestly recommend playing Ultimate Ninja Storm 2. It had amazing graphics, fun game play, and put together most of the storyline from the Shippuden series without all the needless fillers. I loved the game, and I'm not a huge anime fan. I got it for the cel-shaded graphics and came out amazed at the experience.

Why do people complain about fillers so much? I hate them too, just stop watching the show for awhile and then jump back in. Bleach's fillers are the worst, at least naruto fillers have some relevance to the overall story.

When you say things that stupid just to distance yourself from popular icons, the world doesn't need to play a joke on you--you're making yourselves look like one juuuust fine.

For the love of God, please make the next game have dialogue flow by itself instead of having to hit X every single second to get to the next dialogue bubble.
