Despite all of the negative reviews, I'm enjoying this game a lot right now. I'm giggling like a school girl whenever I hear something vulgar and the gameplay is fun enough.

It feels like I'm playing an FPS from 2006 with amazing 2006 graphics and I'm totally okay with that.

The things that bug me the most are the broken arm character models (especially women) and the aiming controls don't feel as smooth as they should be.

In my opinion, the people who rate this game terribly are JUST young enough to have not ever played Duke Nukem 3D and are spoiled by the AAA FPS titles that have everflowing cash.

well guess what, i just proved that opinion of yours wrong. I played Duke 3D, i played it to DEATH... i think DNF is utter trash... but i guess any excuse is a good excuse.

Also just to point out.
The most recent 'Boss' of DNF put $30 million of his own money on the line, towards the end

MW2 cost $40-$50 all together
(I wouldnt consider COD a AAA game anymore)

But DNF had cash chucked at them. So lets not pretend it was down on a budget

That last part isn't opinion at all, that is your assumption that could be proven completely false if you did a little research before making such statements. 90% of statistics are pulled out of peoples butts.

I think what's more likely is that most of the terrible reviews are from people in their late 20s, early 30s, who were probably into Duke when he was at his height of popularity.

Me too. I love the game. Riotous fun from start to finish. The pace is kept up, new stupid things happen all the time. It was so refreshing to play a balls out the bath, mindless game like that amid a sea of Fallouts, CoD's and other games with their own styles.

I hope they make more. Tidy up the graphics a bit, expand upon the puzzles and great environments. Duke Nukem 5. I await thee/ye [delete dependant on decade]

@Frostblade10 Uh, what? Part of why DNF is so terrible is how it completely misses the vibe that 3D set. Playing 3D prior to DNF makes it so much worse.

I sure do love Duke apologists. Also you didn't have to be devoted to get the demo, since Amazon would just send you the code and then you could cancel the order. Good times.

In my opinion, No Demo = No Buy. Unless a game comes out brand new for about $20, then I'm not spending $50+ without knowing how it's gonna play.

i rented it after reading the reviews and i have to say, what the hell are people defending in this game... i mean i have heard it all but the most annoying excuse people give is "don't compare it to COD" or "this isn't COD"... who the fcuk said this game is anything like COD? besides that, the game blows. It has sections in it that are just plain WTF... Puzzles? 2 guns? regen health?... how can people NOT compare it to other FPS. I was waiting for this game like everyone else and i feel disappointed like everyone else, but i'm not dumb enough to defend a game that i know had a terrible execution after being the most anticipated game of all time. This game failed on all levels and if there are people out there willing to look past it i'm all for it, but don't try to convince the general public that this game is anything but hot garbage by todays standards.... even COD standards.

@PR0F3TA

I know a guy that swears by "arena" shooters and old school FPS games. He thinks that matchmaking, 2 guns, regen, iron sights, linear design, and all the other changes have made every single FPS game ever with even 1 of them "terrible" and "just plain boring". He's the kind of guy who refers to people as "CoD babies" and "Halotards".

He's been defending DNF to the death despite the changes. He says he wishes it didn't have such changes, but still defends it. When I showed him a negative review of it he said "probably just another troll review" as if no one could legitimately think the game was bad without having an ulterior motive. He assumes all bad reviews must be of the 360 version since the PC version isn't the same and can be modded to remove all the negative things like 2 weapons, regen, etc.

Basically what I mean is, no matter how bad a game is, or how outdated/overpriced it is, there are always going to be people who swear it's not that bad and that there's some big conspiracy theory going on.

(Told my friend, "admit it, a lot of gamers don't like the game." He replied with, "no, I will not, I refuse to admit it. Just cause some reviewers want to troll the game doesn't mean people don't like it. I couldn't care less what reviewers think anyways, they don't mean sh!t because I know it's a great game."

It's simple. I don't like it because it is garbage. As a DN3D fan, I certainly didn't wish it to be trash, it just is. And Prof3ta is right, look at the backlash on the review article. If your enjoying it, great, but don't pretend like you can't understand why 9/10 people think this game sucks.

I can tell anybody who hasn't played Mass Effect 2 that it's complete shit & to not download the demo, does it make it shit? My point exactly.

Don't listen to anybody unless you've tried something first hand. It has helped me discover games like Fallout & Assassins Creed.

Downloaded the demo, I think people are hating on it a little too much. I thought it was alright. Nothing spectacular but still good. I guess people just had too high of expectations for this game & that's why it sucked so much to them. I never really expected much from this game as I never played a Duke Nukem game before. I agree, this isn't a 60 dollar game but it's still solid.

I'll definitely consider buying it to try the online and finish the achievements when the price comes down a bit.

The game isnt that bad. Its not great, but really, did anyone expect it to be? Its been in development so long, and had so many changes Im just happy its even playable at all. It has issues and stupid design decisions like the 2 gun thing, but I still dont see why everyone hates it so much. Granted I rented it, so I can kinda see being pissed if ya spent $60 on it, but thats your own fault.

@Dragonmaster700 Have you SEEN some of the comments? Oh, they were not only expecting it to be great, but they're attempting to warp reality through sheer enthusiasm in order to make it seem great.

And yeah, having played through it all (Rented, never played a Duke gamebefore), I can safely say that this game was indeed a shooter. Nothing special or fantastic, just a really mediocre shooter featuring some blonde guy who mutters to himself occasionally.

The game isn't great, but I don't think it's terrible either. The sense of humor brings me back to middle school, but in a good way. My problems with it is the load times, the fact that even on easy you can be killed waaay too easily and the amount of bullets it takes to put someone down. But the last is a problem I have with many shooters from Battlefield to Halo. Great games in their own regards, but being a more COD type of guy, I like to be able to put someone down with one headshot or 2-3 bullets in their chest. I'd give the game a 6.5 outta 10. Not good, but not horrible either. I would say rent it though because the demo is terrible compared to the real game. Horrible level choice for the second part of the demo.

I'm gonna go off-topic here, but I don't see why someone can't enjoy COD and Halo at the same time. I came from Counter-Strike school (actually, GoldenEye school, but let's leave that aside for now), so obviously I lean towards a COD-like gameplay. And I hated the first two Halo games when I first played them. I don't know why, I just hated them. But my brother, who wasn't into FPS at all until Halo CE just loved the damn thing. I still don't like CE and I think Halo 2 is kinda weak, but from Halo 3 on, something just clicked. And the series just keep getting better, IMO. Even though they're both of the FPS genre, the way you approach Halo must be different from the way you approach COD. Both franchises have outstanding games that are not meant to be played with the same mindset. Besides, this mindset thing seems to work even within franchises, given that a lot of long-time Halo fans disliked ODST for it feels different from previous Halo games (even though combat still is pretty much alike). I, for one, loved it.

I can't say much for Battlefield given that I haven't played one since 'Nam, but as far as COD and Halo go, these are my two cents.

Don't worry about it, I'm not raising flags either. It's just that when you said "I like to be able to put someone down with one headshot or 2-3 bullets in their chest", it came off as if you were trying to play Halo the same way COD is played. I honestly related to that, since that's how I used to *try* to play Halo when I began playing it. And we both know (now) that it doesn't really work that way =D

You know what the problem with DNF was?

It was Frankenstein's monster. A bunch of shamelessly ripped-off concepts and ideas leftover from the years the dev team delayed the game because they had to imitate whatever the big thing was at the time (regen shields, for example.) Eventually the game got so bogged down that it lost all the attitude and vibe of the Duke Nukem series. Well here we are, left with that sickly rotting monster of FPS ideas with Duke's face stapled on, groggily stomping around and mumbling "haaail to thee king baybee....!"

I was at least expecting the game to be mediocre, but it's just bad, real bad. The people who somehow can't grasp the terribleness of it are deluding themselves, desperately clinging onto 14 years of lost time.

I actually did like Reach quite a bit and I'm buying the new Battlefield for sure. I play COD online from time to time but usually only One in The Chamber. Lol, feels so much like Golden Eye's golden gun that I can't get enough of it. I'm the same way with Street Fighter and MK. I own both, but I really prefer MK over SF. Just what I'm used to I guess.
