BioShock Infinite visits new world in latest media
50
A new developer diary for BioShock Infinite has been released, detailing the game's "tear" system. As we detailed in our recent preview, Elizabeth can open tears in reality, pulling in helpful objects from other realities that can be utilized by protagonist Booker Dewitt. Those with sharp eyes will notice that Elizabeth's powers expand much further than that as well. Like, they expand far far away.

I love how well-realized the Bioshock universe is--whether it be underwater on in the sky.

Oh, did anyone else notice that "Revenge" of the Jedi was playing in the theatre at the end?

I love listen to Ken Levine talk. He really seems to have the ability to live in the world he's created. Probably why his games are so amazing.

I agree. I have nightmares that something bad happens to him, I want him to stay healthy so he keeps making kick ass games.

I think I went out with Elizabeth in Persona a couple of times. Nice girl, but kind of weird.

THIS IS SO COOOOOOOL!
Both in concept and gameplay. I also loved that bit of alternate Episode VI in 1983. Wonderful.
Now we need a release date Ken! I need to start the countdown to this mind-eruptor!

Revenge of the Jedi was the original name for Return of the Jedi, it was changed a few weeks before release to Return... as George felt Jedi do not take Revenge. I believe the original storyboard was named "Return" but he director said that was a weak title to use.

This looks great, the only thing I haven't liked so far was the way they used the transportation system to hold onto and have fire fights. Just made the game seem too much on the shooter side and not enough on the choices of how you proceed side of the game. I liked when Bioshock was more about having multiple ways to get past enemies or to fight them using hacked security bots etc.

so if elizabeth can pull stuff out of other versions of reality... will there also be elizabeths from those other realities that are causing things from your game world to disappear?

@damnreds You, sir, just caused my brain to combust. I hope Ken Levine is watching this right now and telling someone to get you on the phone.

Gah, why don't they release the entire 30 minute demo that they showed at E3. It was so amazing and it gives a lot of context to tiny snippets they showed.
Also with the horse, you have the option of just shooting it to put it out of its misery - but she begs you not to.

It was Game of Show so that vid must be pretty amazing. When the first E3 teaser was released I nearly crapped my pants. Now I just wear diapers when watching new stuff.
Game of the Generation.

This definitely looks amazing.
And it's super Fringe-esque. Even the way the tears flicker and she pulls stuff over, it's almost a carbon copy.
I love Fringe AND Bioshock, so combining them is nerdgasm-tastic.

I just hope the game doesn't turn out to be one massive escort mission, cause that would suck.

this i did not know. that just opened up a whole new level to the story. that stuff with the horse at the end was extremely intriguing.

Elizabeth's power is freakin' cool. Another dimension involved is an interesting, nerdy, and awesome story for BioShock. This is definitely looking and living up to the first BioShock game.

Any game that Levine and co. put out, I am buying. The worlds and atmospheres that he and IG are able to create make are the reason why I want to become a filmmaker and, hopefully, translate some of that to gaming to create even more unique, and story-driven experiences.
Infinite is the only upcoming game that I'm truly hyped for.
