Players of the PC version of Dungeon Siege 3 were disappointed with the keyboard-and-mouse controls used in the game, generally deciding that using an Xbox 360 controller was the way to go. If you're one of those folks, lead designer Nathaniel Chapman says there's good news: Obsidian plans to release an update that will improve the traditional PC controls. According to Chapman, better PC controls for the game is "one thing I would have liked to have spent more time on, and we are actually spending time on now."
Chapman also hinted that Obsidian would like to have made "a more fleshed out tutorial system" and "more unique armor variants" for the game's four playable characters. But those will have to wait for future versions of the game: "It's always good sequel or DLC material," he said.

Oh yes please. I finished the steam demo with the impression this game wasn't made for the PC in mind. Might consider buying if they make it playable with keyboard and mouse.

The combat plays well so long as you have a console controller to hook up to your computer. I used a Wireless Xbox 360 controller since I have one of those dongles you can hook into your computer to make it work with it and the combat and controlling the character was great. The camera was a bit annoying, but the only part that really got to me was that it didn't really have anything from Dungeon Siege 2 in it at all. It was like the developers read a synopsis of Dungeon Siege 1 and then based this game's story off of that, except 150 years later. There weren't any Druids, Mordin, or awesome gnarled beasts. 90% of the population in the game was human, which kinda killed it for me as part of the fun of the previous Dungeon Siege games was seeing the interesting things you had to fight. But if you'd never played any of the previous Dungeon Siege games, you would probably enjoy it. It's a pretty good story, if a bit bland and the end really starts to diverge from western RPG to Japanese RPG with the content. I'd give it a 7 out of 10 for sure. I'd recommend you wait till it's a bit cheaper honestly.
The one good thing that I was happy to see is that there was absolutely no bugs to be found, except the one where Steam Achievements don't work for anyone, but that's minor.

Oh, Obsidian. I feel like a beaten housewife, always crawling back for your personality and charm in spite of your horrible treatment of me. I can't explain why I love you...I just...I just do.

Wait, so your game gets beaten up in reviews for crappy loot (among other things), and your answer is - that's good stuff to sell us separately?
gg Obsidian - well played.

@sine909 In a reasonable world, DLC can also free updates / patches. Unfortunately Obsidian has been showing us for a couple years that we don't live in a world where games work properly. Nevermind actually being reasonable.

Sure, if your game sells enough to warrant it... Last I checked your reviews weren't exactly so hot.
And scratch that - good tutorials should be in the final released game then and there. There's no coming back to save the day for that one

and good controls for that matter. I suppose it's nice that they're actually going to work on it instead of not giving a damn. I still can't decide what's worse: they shipped the gaming knowing it had poor controls, or they believed there wasn't any problems to begin with

Make third game in PC-only series, give console versions, make lousy PC controls. Sounds pretty modern.

How about the ability to save my co-op progress as player 2? literally deal breaker for me. thinking about returning the game

@wenchwogg This needs to become standard in all games. I remember being really pissed when I played right through Lego Indiana Jones with a friend and discovered afterwards that I didn't have a save of my own. The only achievements I could earn were the ones you can get in a single session. Bleurgh.

jesus christ, this is what the gaming industry is now? 'hey we released this game with POS controls, but we'll patch it later!'. I can't wait for a game to come out with no sound, and the devs will 'patch it later'

@Cleric OMG, there WAS a game that had this. I can't remember the name. But it released with like broken, or half functioning sound or something. I forgot about it until you reminded me, but I can't remember what it was for the life of me. It was many years ago.

I wonder why they keep ruining old beloved franchises. Just spend your money on advertising, and stop buying names to slap them on your products. If you 're confident your game is 'fun' and has quality, it will sell. Stop ruining franchises. THIS IS NO DUNGEON SIEGE. (Supreme Commander 2.... anyone...?)

This game is CRAP. That's what happens when they take a game and put it on a shitty outdated console and give it console controls. To late to fix it now. Not wasting my money on this. I would have gladly gotten it if they had been true to their fan base and made it for PC and then ported it over. Guess they weren't smart like Starcraft 2.

Releasing an unfinished game is always good sequel and DLC material?
Do these people even realise how bad they sound? I guess not, and probably don't care. Anyone that is happy to rip people off even further after not finsihing their game doesn't have a functioning conscience.

After release... wonderful. Typical Obsidian. Good thing I have a "guilty until proven innocent" stance when it comes to games and I haven't bought it yet.

Yeah, better controls in the future blah blah blah. How about the poor, though usable controls you currently have. The last steam update inverted the x axis camera controls (mapped to a and d keys). There is no way to custom map controls. There is no way to control it any other way short of a gamepad.

@infernus Moderator on Obsidian's forum says we'll have full key mapping by next week at the latest, so hopefully, it won't have to be on the shelf for long. I enjoyed the first hour i got to play before this patch fubar'd the whole thing.

This makes me very happy. I mean honestly pressing E to pick up loot and open chests in a hack 'n slash RPG is just a little bit silly.

Am I the only one that loved DS1+DS2 but just abhorred DS3?

Obsidian really needs to stick to sequels of well known games, because if it weren't for those, they'd probably be out of business way before omega protocol released.

Didn't this use to be the other way around? PC controls first, then gamepad controls were patched in later?

Welcome to the new world order:
Portable and Console games reign supreme, and PC games are a sad afterthought.
Now it's all catered to semi-casual gamers, so skill systems, basic game features and anything requiring half a brain has been removed to make it "more approachable".

The only good thing this developer did was make a demo, so we could all see how horrible this game is compared to the first two. I hate to admit this, but I would have bought this in a heartbeat had I not played the demo. Loved the first two, absolutely loathe this demo. One thing I hate, that hasn't been covered, is the art style of the characters. The main male character looks like he's out of Final Fantasy or something, he does not look "western" at all, and I hate it.

I ordered this game because it was something with simple enough controls for my wife to play with me, but with the reviews and comments like this I'm considering returning it for credit at Walmart and getting something else.
I mean come on. The idea that a fully fleshed out tutorial is considered DLC hurts my brain. Free or not.

The game is a total cr*p. Just fixing the controls wont do it. The menus, the inventiry..... for f*ck sake the inventory is rubbish and unusable. The whole game must be remade!
