Daniel Blezek has been working on an iPad port of Bungie's nearly 20-year-old franchise for quite some time now -- more or less since the iPad launched in January of 2010, he says. Years of perseverance, a loving family, and some basic technical chops allowed Blezek to complete the port recently. Bungie and Blezek expect it to arrive on the App Store any minute, pending Apple approval, for the low, low price of zero dollars.
If that weren't enough, Bungie has released the final game of the Marathon trilogy, Infinity, to the open source community, meaning it's likely to be included in the iPad App. Between the release of an iOS App recently and Marathon this week, it looks as though Bungie's support for the iOS platform is really up and running.

@Shadow Hog 3-star ratings have the CSS class "level4", and the 0,5 star ratings have "level0", but without the styling. Maybe you can edit your browser's CSS? :D

I think it's awesome that Bungie supported this instead of shutting him down like many other companies would.

Bungie is finally out from under the control of Microsoft. This is just the first taste of the multiplatform goodness to come. I've been a Bungie fan since Marathon, so this is a nice throwback while I wait (and wait) for their next project.

Wow.. kinda surprised this wouldn't be put on Windows 7 phones first.
Either way, don't forget about us Android Honeycomb Tablet owners, Bungie!

If it was, it sure as hell wouldn't be free. I love my WP7 phone and all, but I certainly do miss iOS's free-$1 games.

I'm excited about the next wave of WP7 devices (especially after seeing Mango). I'm enjoying the iOS 5 beta but it might be time to move on.
Going to stick to the iPad for now though. From what I've seen it still seems to be the most polished tablet experience out there. Windows 8 for tablets looks like it will be better though.

Yeah, well getting an iPad 2 was the main reason I felt comfortable moving from an iPhone to a WP7. I wasn't ready to abandon iOS completely, just didn't like having my 3G neutered by OS4 with 6 months left on my contract, but I will be PISSED if my Samsung Focus can't update to Mango (a legit concern since, apparently, it won't update to the current firmware without crashing or bricking.)

@Shockwave Starting off on a WP7 would surprise me a lot!!! Android makes more sense - but AFTER iOS - Marathon and Marathon 2 used to be MacOS exclusive (was M1 ever released on Windows?)

@Shadow Hog It does, but this is the code straight form Bungie instead of being reverse-engineered or whatnot.

Please, please say that the open-sourcing includes the Forge and Anvil tools! There's no good editors for anything but Macs.

So he's been working on it since January 2010, but it's out thanks to years of perseverance?
Wow, he ripped right through the time vortex! That -is- dedication!

@(Unverified) Well, he spent the years before on the port to MacOS X - which uses similar codebase as iOS.

I hope they bring this to the iPhone, I just watched a video of this and it looks cool, they did it with Wolfenstein, duke 3d and doom so why not.

Has the app been released yet? Bungie's blog seems to have fallen a little silent on the matter. I know it's only been a few days, but they seemed so certain that it was on the brink of being released.
I know, I know ... one man's "brink" is another man's "another two months" ;-p
