Gears of War 3 grants extra goodies to previous Gears players

If you got yourself a golden Lancer or Hammerburst (or both) in Gears of War 2, worry not about your bling when Gears of War 3 launches on September 20 -- they'll transfer over, Epic producer Rod Fergusson told MTV Multiplayer. Other unlockables tied to older Gears of War games will mainly revolve around Achievements.

"If you did something in Gears PC you get a chrome skin, if you did something in Gears 2 you get a chrome skin. The chrome set is sort of our thank you to people who played our games in the past." Fergusson also hinted at an incentive for those who've hit level 100 and unlocked the Veteran Gear Achievement in Gears 2, though he wouldn't provide exact details on what having that Achievement would mean in Gears 3.

Better get cracking if you're looking to get that "Seriously" Achievement in the original Gears of War!

I'm staring to wish I had stuck with it after gears 1, I broke another game disc years ago and took gears back to replace it before I really got into the game.

Buy the triple back then, get both and all dlc.

I still never got my wings. I think I am level 67 or so. Despite playing Gears 2 from day one, several times a week, sessions that lasted into the small hours of the morning, countless solo horde sessions, playing all weekend every bonus xp weekend. Still neither me, nor any of my friends came close to a level that surely was only really possible in 99.9% of cases by relentless, tireless boosting or cheating. Crazy. I have other games to play and a job to hold down, you know?

Hopefully they won't be so crazy with the ranking system in Gears 3. And I dread Seriously 3.0 being 100,000,000 or somthing stupid.

Well, as I have said, I hope the ranking system is not the exponential madness it was before or this will be even harder Than Seriously 2.0. I did at least achieve that.

@Ozzpot Seriously 3.0 requires you to reach 100 (I think ranking up happens a lot faster based upon the points system in the Beta) and obtaining every Onyx medal. I'm not sure how many kills that requires for weapons, but something tells me it's in the thousands (including heavy weapons like the mulcher, one shot and mortar). I assume this also includes all of the other medals that were unlocked by doing unique things in the Beta (playing matches as a female, capturing the leader as the leader, x number of assists, etc)... so it's going to take a very long time for this one to be unlocked in a legit manner.

@Ozzpot It's just as difficult I think. The Onyx medals won't be too bad if they can be accomplished across all game modes. That is what i'm hoping for anyway as I don't want to use the double barrel and retro online.

@Ozzpot I find this hilarious. Not as an insult, but because I bought Gears 2 almost a year later, played maybe a couple of hours a day, rarely ever played horde, actually reset my rank when I hit 50 something, and still got my wings in less than a year haha.

Man, that was some BS. I pre-order Gears 2 from Gamestop, but I couldn't go pick it up because I didn't have my ID. A family friend went to go pick it up from gamestop and they said they wouldn't sell them MY PRE-ORDER (with the receipt ofc) but they could sell em' a new copy. Bunch of D-Bags!

Bullcrap, GameStop's rule is: State issued ID or the receipt. (with ID for M rated game)
If you had the receipt you should have been able to get the game. Or at least until the 48 hour hold period was up and go in and just buy it.

got my seriously in gears one. played that game non stop for 3 years. it was the only multiplayer game i played. put more hours into that than any other game this gen. took back number 2 after the first couple weeks. idk, i think im done with this franchise.

Agreed. I sold my Xbox 360 recently. The only reason I had to keep it was Gears of War 3 and that wasn't enough.

If Microsoft release Gears 2 and 3 on PC, I'll gladly give Microsoft my monies.

The reason it sold so bad was because

1) Microsoft decided to sell the game only on Retail in the beginning. (That is financial suicide on PC)

2) Microsoft decided to only make a few amount of disks. (Microsoft was asking to get a few sales)

3) Microsoft released Gears of War when Games for Windows LIVE had the same fee as Xbox LIVE. (Why on Earth would a PC Gamer pay for Online Multi-player? Esp. for the crap service that Games For Windows LIVE was? and is?)

The game sold just fine for so many loophole legit buyers had to go through through just to get the game... and play it online.

Love to see more game series do little extras like this.
