Journey closed beta starts tomorrow, open to select few

Following up on last week's report, thatgamecompany has revealed the requirements for taking part in the "very limited" beta for its upcoming project, Journey. According to a recent post on PlayStation Blog, the beta will be restricted to "the very earliest adopters of Flower" who are also PlayStation Plus subscribers. The beta will begin on June 28 (that's tomorrow!) and run through July 12. Those who qualify should receive an invitation via their PSN inbox soon.

For those who don't fit the criteria (remember, everyone's on PlayStation Plus at the moment), all hope is not lost. A "limited number of additional spots" will be made available via PlayStation Blog and some unnamed "media partners."

Finally, more invitations are being given away via thatgamecompany's Facebook page. You'd best hurry if you want one -- the Facebook giveaway closes at 7pm Pacific tonight.

I adopted Flower the day it came out, but I've only got the free PSN subscription, so we'll see what happens. I'll buy the game once it comes out, anyway.

I bought it day 1, and a paid Plus subscriber. Hopefully I'm in.

Sounds like a nice way to reward early adopters.

However I'm not one of those. I tend to lean more towards the "greedy bastard who waits for a sale" category.

Greedy? Nah..I prefer the term 'economic'. Bastard may still fit, tho' :)

@frenzy I'm an economic bastard too, but hey, thanks to that I play more games and support more companies (for a little bit less but still).

I doubt that I'll get a code from Sony (they never send me anything) but at least there are other opportunities.

Can I get a "DO WANT"?

Just checked my download history, got it on the 12th January 2009, its release date :)

I swear, every single post on Journey you spurt out diarrhea on this game. Did thatgamecompany knee you in the ballsack, or something? I don't get it, this looks fantastic...

Crap, I forgot to sign up for plus (actually I got scared off when they said that they'd start charging automatically when my free month is up,) so I guess I'll miss out on this. Too bad since it looks amazing.

I have never played/purchased Flower. Crossing my fingers for someone to mess up when running the query and accidentally send me an invite. Looking forward to reviews on this...looks either boring or 'deep' maaannnn.

Damnit not this lottery bullshit again, that circus absolutely killed Little Big Planet when they tried that. All this is going to accomplish is piss off tens of thousands of people jumping through hoop after hoop trying to get a code while making a few hundred that get the code happy. REALLY stupid move.

So what's your solution for a limited beta? I'm sure it's a completely fair system in which no one feels left out, right?

@Vidikron if they need to limit the amount of people in a beta then they should do what they are doing now, a strict guideline to who is getting in, like PSN subscribers who bought Flower. These lotteries where people have to run around to dozens of sites and enter stupid drawings is going to kill peoples enthusiasm for the game just like what happened to LBP, it seems like a good PR move where you get a lot of press from all the gaming sites but all you end up with is a shitload of disappointed and angry people.

I got Flower on that $5 sale, oh well.

I bought Flower the day it came out so lets hope i receive a message. :-)

I purchased Flower on the day that it released and I was a Plus Subsciber before the hack. I should get an invitation.

Yeah I was a Flower release day buyer, and I have subscribed to Plus from the first day too. I can guarantee I don't get it. I love Sony as much as they love not giving me Beta access to upcoming games... WAAAAAAAH!!!

Whaaa... I never get any kind of exclusive demos or betas from Sony, but I did buy Flower and PS+ both on day one. I really want this :'(
