Starting this week, frugal PSP gamers can snag UMD Dual Packs for 15 clams. Games come in genre-flavored bundles of two (Secret Agent Clank and Daxter, for example), and are also available for download in the PlayStation Store, if physical media isn't your thing.

That's not bad pricing at all.
I can't speak for the quality of all the games though.
Also got Killzone Liberation from the Welcome Back offer. So... :/

Until I know what Sony is doing with UMD for Vita, I'm holding off buying any UMD's. If I knew that they were going to allow free downloads for current owners of UMD's, then stocking up would make sense.
But, if people didn't know, you can download the free Welcome Back games for PSP without having a PSP for those of you getting ready for the Vita.

The packs are available digitally. Probably the best way to buy them so you can use it on Vita.
I already have most of these games. They need to lower the price on Resistance Retribution. Daxter is my favorite game on PSP.

@waterhand They're not going to allow free downloads for people who own UMD games. They toyed with the idea when the PSP go was released, and decided against it for whatever reasons. If you are going to buy a Vita, I wouldn't advise getting any more UMD games.

They can never do it because the discs don't have unique IDs, thus there would be no way of distinguishing a legit disc you own, and one you borrowed from a friend who just used the game to get their own free copy.
If they did have a system to do so, they'd effectively be giving you the entire PSP library for nothing.

@waterhand Sorry, I wasn't clear. I do not own a PSP system yet. The Vita would be the first. The most economical approach would be to only pick up games that are on sale digitally knowing that they'll be reading for the Vita. If anything, the discounted games with the PS Plus would help. But, like I said, I already have LBP and Mod Nation waiting in the wings due to the Welcome Back program.

Why would they separate the syphon filters. That's not cool

Damn you Sony! you should put both Syphon Filter's together and socom with killzone...

So for $15.00, you can either own the games outright on UMD, or you can spend that same $15 and download them yet only license them. I think it's obvious that physical media wins again.

Or I can own a PSV and continue to use my PSP for UMDs.
DUH.

How do you not own them? Once they are on my HD, good luck ever getting them off. Sure, I guess they could disable them with an update or something, but if that day ever comes (which it probably wont) then you just stop updating. The only other problem I could see you running into is possibly some sort of always-connected DRM a la Bionic Commando Rearmed 2. But there's an easy solution for that, don't buy games with bullshit like that.

Read the agreement when you download a game, or on the back or a points or money card. It says that you aren't buying the game, you don't own it, only licensing it. it's similar to Windows. you aren't paying $139 to own Windows; you are only paying to have a license to use it.
There is an article in the current issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly that touches on this topic. And like with the Sonic Generations demo, any publisher can end your use of a game you downloaded pretty easily if your console is online enabled.

Will probably pick up clank and daxter. How is clank, does it have more than just the clank-only parts of RaC games?

This is a terrible thing because I want a vita already and now (cheap!) digital copies of some of my favorite psp games too?
Shut up and take my money

If they are available from PSN as well shouldn't we be able to mix and match various games in these packs so that we don't end up with games we already own?

i own them but its a sick deal. hope they do this with a lot more games.

Is it asking too much to bundle Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep together for $15?
How about FF Tactics: War of the Lions and Tactics Ogre?
Perhaps a three-pack of the Disgaea ports?
Sigh.

Isn't SE the publisher for the games you mentioned?
Sony is publishing these games, so they control them whatever way they see fit, but they have no rights to the games you mentioned I believe.
It would e cool if SE actually did any of that though as I'd buy them.
