The contest is over, the winners have been chosen, and you can now pick up the winning maps from the "Summer Mapping Initiative" contest being held by Valve for Portal 2. A map called "Patent Pending" took the top prize by offering a wide mix of mechanics, another called "Infinifling" that's focused on "mid-air portaling techniques" ended up in second place. "Edifice," based in some of the destroyed Aperture chambers, picked up an honorable mention. All of the maps are free to download; just get the file, put it in your maps folder by following the instructions on the official blog and use the dev console to load it up and play.
Congrats to the winners. Valve's also hosting a Portal 2 music video contest for the song by The National included in the game. The deadline on that one is coming up in the middle of July, so you've still got time to film and upload it to YouTube. Good luck!

That second one is pretty short, and lacking to be honest. There was another map called Old Faithful that should have taken second place in my opinion.

I wish these maps were available for consoles too. Not that I can't play them, since I picked up Portal 2 for the PS3, but I'd much rather use a controller than the keyboard and mouse.

Uh...you can use a controller on PC. Just FYI. Seems a lot of people tend to forget that.
In fact, you can USE ANY Controller!
Ps3? Yup X360? Yup NES? Yup N64? Yup

Am I completely wrong or was the PS3 version supposed to be able to get community created features?

Valve only said they will talk to modders about it and pile up a few mods that Valve supports and release it as DLC for the game.
Of course, only a few of them that are programmed for consoles and are approved by Valve, Microsoft, and Sony will be released on consoles.

I remember hearing about this too. It was one of the big features of having Steam built-in, and why the PS3-version was going to be the better version, since Microsoft would never allow this type of stuff without charging extra for it.

@aroGADGET : not random user generated maps. The steam tie in helped the updating process, no longer does every patch have to go through Sony for certification.

Why did they make playing user maps to fiddly? Dev console? In Portal 1 you could see the map (with its own picture) from an option menu and load it that way.
@cypherigon keyboard and mouse is infinitely better than a control pad.

You forgot to add the "IMO".
I don't know, I like playing video games with... a video game controller. IMO the 360's is the best out there. It just feels right. I've tried to game with a mouse and KB but that just isn't as fun. Like, at all. So your more accurate because you have a small screen closer to you and can just click and point at your target. I don't see how this makes it more fun for you. I just think its you mouse and KB freaks who have convinced yourselves that it is in fact fun because you "PWN SO HARD" with them.
I don't mind PC graphics whores because hey, if I could, I'd build me a rig to play Battlefield 3 at 60fps with Direct 11 and all that jazz. But I'd play it with my 360 controller no doubt. What does get on my nerves are the M and KB whores who act so elite.

I cant help but shake the feeling that I'm missing out on something big with Portal 2. I really should get it.

It's really a great game. Great writing, gameplay and man that Source Engine looked great even if it is one of the older engines out there. If I didn't have kids and weren't married I would have played it through in one sitting its so awesome.
