Team ICO moving to main Sony offices in Japan
38
Studio head Fumito Ueda of Team ICO (the folks behind the much-awaited PS3 title The Last Guardian) tweeted that the developer is moving offices in Japan this week, into Sony Computer Entertainment's main building in the Shinagawa ward of Tokyo. Ueda said that the move was part of a "major reformation of our development environment," designed to set up Team ICO for even bigger and better things in the future.
Here's hoping the move goes well. Just be sure, guys, that the first box you open says The Last Guardian on it, so you can get that title out and into our hands. That box that says "Failed Colossus Ideas?" That one you can leave taped up for the time being.

Interesting. I hope this proves to be a benefit rather than a mistake.
Fears of Sony execs demanding faster development and boobs in the game are now lurking in the back of my mind.

"Fears of Sony execs demanding faster development and boobs in the game are now lurking in the back of my mind."
When have sony ever been like that with the games they publish?
They always give devs the time they need, And they never demand that they put anything in their game.
Sony asked Naughty Dog to try the PS move, But ND said it wouldnt really add much to the game, so they arent going to.
Sony owned developers have ALOT of freedom.

Sony? Rushed development? Did you not follow the development of Gran Turismo 5?

@sonicspike41 He was born, like most of us, after GT5 started development so how could he know?

@sonicspike41 - He clearly didn't follow the development of Ico or SOTC either. Both games were given incredible amounts of time to bake. The Last Guardian is no exception, and I can't see Sony rushing them. The only fear I have at this point is Sony making them tack on 3D, but even that fear is based on little more than speculation.
Not that 3D is necessarily bad or anything (I'm told the 3D in Uncharted 3 is incredible).

Never said it wasn't a groundless fear. I just don't want something that has so much potential to be ruined. Stranger things have happened.
The actual statements were hyperbole to get across the fear of executive meddling.

Where did I say that? I said I was afraid it would be rushed in the future and that the fear is groundless. But I still have it.

Okay, that's pretty dope. Although it's kinda weird that they're moving mid-development; I recall Bungie moving house when Reach went gold.
Then again, they delayed the game recently so maybe they're not pressed for time.

As long as it doesn't affect development of The Last Gaurdian too much I'm all for it. Hope this means we get even bigger/better games from them in the future.

Hey, I love hearing that Team Ico is getting some much-deserved attention. Not many companies like gambling on a genuine games-as-art type title when mainstream blockbusters like CoD have proven to be so annoyingly lucrative.

They're going to use that as an excuse to delay the game.

"Bigger and better" usually takes a turn to crappy and hasted in this industry these days.
Honestly I'm not at all keen on The Last Guardian. I mean, Ico and SotC are great, but I'm finding the neverending story-like giant pet a tough pill to swallow.
Time will tell, let's just hope everything about this comment is wrong.

And monotonous war games aren't childish? Or bulky men taking on aliens? Yet they all seem to be selling well, wonder why?
People need to quit this idea that anything outside of what they used to should be regarded as artsy fartsy, childish or lame. Fair enough, it isn't to your tastes, that's fine. but its to others tastes, and the whole childish never ending story you hate so much I happen to find a little more sophisticated and interesting then the same old shoot this shoot that or drive this drive that, bazillions of generic shooters swamping the market in a cloud of dreary grey depression of war and more war -_-

God dammit, I don't like the Neverending Story (bad childhood memories) and this game reminds me of that. And that's that, there's no deeper meaning or hidden message. I'm not offending anybody nor trashing anything.
And now I agree with people here complaining about receiving downvotes and generally a hard time for expressing sheer opinions. You can't have an opinion that goes against the flow that you get bashed to death.

To be honest I didn't mind your first comment, its your second comment that annoyed me. The first comment was a personal opinion, the second comment sounded more like an attack on the game. What do you mean its too childish?
Yeah, I can understand your point about not being in favour of the never ending story, thats fine, but too childish? Why? How? And what makes it any more childish then many games on the market?

I can't really but my finger on it. Maybe "too childish" was a poor choice of words. But it brings me make that "bad nostalgia feeling", you know? That haze of memories that you can't really make anything of, but you feel uneasy about.
So, ok, maybe it's not childish, but it reminds me of my childhood and not in a good way.

Fair enough, I'm not one for tackling people based on their opinion unless thier opinion sounds more like a general sweeping statement as if to bad mouth something they don't like, and I don't use the rating system unless something in particular is deserving of an up or down rating which to me is rare, so I haven't rated you down, just thought I'd pick at the second comment because I hear the 'thats too arsty, thats too childish' comments all the time from ignorant people about games they don't like.
But I get your point, I no longer have anything against your comment. :)

Totally. The wikipedia page says development history began with a job posting in January 2008. It seems like it's been longer to me for some reason. Maybe because SotC released back in 2005, so I'm kind of curious what they were doing between 2005 & 2008. But either way we're talking at least 3.5 years dev time with little to show for it and still no firm release date in sight.
I love ICO & SotC as much as the next guy, but this game seems to be suffering from mismanagement at this point and is stuck in dev hell. I really hope I'm wrong. I hope there's better news come TGS.

@Altairio It seems longer to me because I've been waiting for this game since I finished the last one. Nothing coming out during E3 makes me wonder if this game is proceding. Sony could be tightening the reins due to these Team ICO not accomplishing goals.
Hope I am wrong.

@Altairio It could very well be the issue that id software had. They preferred to keep their dev teams small, but it was just taking too long with this new generation. That's why rage took forever to complete.
