Man, I sure can't wait to see this 'thing' in a REAL GAME form versus being the unborn child that is being divided between divorcing parents.

@CaptainProtonX I don't know if I really want to see an MMORPG made on a $3000 budget.

I really really want to see a massively multiplayer online puzzle-platformer set in a colorful, kid-friendly version of ancient Rome. It could be called Julius!

And oranges would be the currency? And all potions would be orange juice based?

I never thought I would say this...but it's time for Interplay to die. I loved their games so much, but at this point it's just like their irradiated corpse is lying in the desert slowly twitching while waiting for the rad scorpions to finish them off.

The Interplay that we knew and loved is long gone. I would rather remember it for what it was then watch these death throes. Does anyone really think that a Fallout MMO will ever make it to market? Or that if it did, it would be any good?

Will likely be better than this third person regurgitated WoW shit we are subject to these days. I long for the isometric glory days of MMOs.

You seem to be under the impression that the Interplay that exists today is able to make even something on par with its output of 12 years ago. Unfortunately, this couldn't be further from the truth. Interplay, as we knew it when Fallout 1 and 2 were around, has long since been dead. It doesn't have any development studios (aside from a few people supposedly working on this MMO); it hasn't had any major releases in nearly a decade; and it doesn't even really have any capital. They sold Fallout because they were in massive debt. Most of the money they got from it has been used to pay down debt, not to actually create any new content.
Interplay today is a brand that has been sold and resold to the lowest bidder countless times. It's not a game development company, and it was likely going to use the FF MMO to help raise money for other reasons. I don't think anyone seriously thinks it could've developed a studio on its own.
Black Isle, the actual studio that made Fallout, Fallout 2, and many other great titles, is also dead. However, much of the staff founded a new studio to essentially continue the legacy. It's called Obsidian Entertainment, and they made Fallout New Vegas. In fact, most of the leading staff for Fallout New Vegas would've been the leading staff on the cancelled original Fallout 3, and the New Vegas story actually has most of the major elements planned for Fallout 3's story.

tl;dr

You seem to be under the impression that Bethesda can do a better job with Fallout than Interplay. I have yet to see proof.

If you didn't read, then you shouldn't respond.
However, to be nice, I'll do this as simply as possible. 1. Interplay isn't a game developer anymore. It's basically a mailbox with a few licenses and a lot more debt. 2. Fallout New Vegas was made by most of the same senior designers as would've made Fallout 3 if Interplay hadn't cancelled it.

And just so we are clear here - 5 people from Black Isle doesn't mean Obsidian carries any weight with the Fallout name. Fallout New Vegas is still so bug ridden and broken after 6 separate playthrough attempts I still cannot complete the game due to game breaking bugs.

"Fallout New Vegas is still so bug ridden and broken after 6 separate playthrough attempts I still cannot complete the game due to game breaking bugs."
I beat it on my first attempt (on the PC) within a week of it coming out. No game breaking or really even frustrating bugs. I know lots of people had issues (especially with the console adaptations), but that doesn't mean it's the report for everyone. You only hear about it when people complain.
"5 people from Black Isle doesn't mean Obsidian carries any weight with the Fallout name"
When people complain that we didn't get the true sequels from Interplay, I don't know what you can possibly mean besides Van Buren. That was an isometric RPG from Black Isle Studios and Interplay. It was a direct successor to Fallout 2.
Who were the lead designers on the original Fallout 3? Feargus Urquhart, Chris Avellone, and Josh Sawyer. (Both Feargus and Chris were also lead designers on Fallout 2). Who were the lead designers on NV? Feargus Urquhart, Chris Avellone, and Josh Sawyer.
I don't understand how you can say this team lacks credibility. You can still dislike the game due to bugs (as you've noted) or just playability, but I don't understand how you or anyone else can argue that this isn't a -credible- team. This is easily the closest we've come since the end of Black Isle studios to a true Fallout team, and Interplay is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH further away from being able to do the same (provide either a more credible or higher quality release).

>implying only developmental department of game development is what results in success of a title - not only financially but critically and culturally.

>implying the lack of writers, art teams, legacy programmers or play testing marketing department means nothing.

>implying a hell of a lot that would piss off a great deal of the gaming industry.

As much as I would love to play a Fallout MMO, I genuinely think the moment for this game has long since past. Think about it: back when Fallout 1 and 2 came out, the top-down isometric was all the rage, and I loved Ultima Online so it wouldn't have been a huge leap in logic to move to Fallout Online. It's kind of tragic, really.

Screw interplay. They buried Van Buren and now they want it back when others have done the work of making it popular again.

Yeah . . . good luck getting that to stand up in court. The important thing is what's in the contract, not some vague nonsense about interpretations.

If Interplay complied with the terms of the sale of the Fallout universe to Bethesda, Interplay would have already launched a Fallout MMO by now.

Notice they say "MMOG." Not MMORPG.

It may just be a mishap, or a shortened version (if he was speaking), but I thought I'd point that out.
