Our five-star review of Child of Eden praised just about everything the game had to offer, short of its diminutive length. "You can beat it in a single sitting (or, as the case may be, standing), with the game's five chapters clocking in at a scant 90 minutes," our own Griffin McElroy wrote. "It ends with a swell, and leaves you with a despondent, unanswered wish for more."
While this Amazon deal won't deliver any more Child of Eden, it can help deliver some Child of Eden to those of you still positioned squarely on the fence. At $35, a 30% savings from its usual $50 asking price, Child of Eden may be a no-brainer for some of you; for others, nothing short of $20 will do. We're not judging you ... but you're cheap.
[Thanks, Andrew.]

Still the prevalent excuse of not owning or wanting Kinect.

@ElderGias
I think this argument is as lame as it gets.
I haven't played it YET, but according to what I read/saw, you might as well go play Rez if you're not playing Child of Eden with Kinect.
Not that that's a bad thing, but you just won't experience it as it was meant to be.

@whylekat not true. i played it solely on a controller and have 5 starred every level. it's called being a gamer.

@TheShaper not true. the game was developed first with the controller. and it plays great with one.

@whylekat yeah, the controller sensitivity is so low. it's like playing halo on the lowest sensitivity. it takes way too long to pan around the screen to get to everything. with the kinect, you can hit everything and it's much easier to play.

I'm waiting for the more precise (and 3D!) PS3 + Move version. One game is not enough for me to buy a Kinect and I enjoy holding some kind of controller when playing.

I'm waiting on the ps3 version here. I already have a move, so there is less of a barrier to owning that version then the 360/kinect one, given my 360 is broke and I don't own or see a reason to buy a kinect.

Or that it's 90 minutes long
Posted: Jun 30th 2011 10:46AM (Unverified) said
@lonecow and if you're actually a gamer who wants to better your score/collect all the stars/unlockables, that 90 mins quickly becomes weeks. instead of seeing the "end" of the game, try exploring the content.

@(Unverified) You had me until you said "exploring the content". What does that even mean for an on-rails shooter? Explore how you feel to get a "100% of enemies shot down" message at the end of a level vs 80%?
That said, I just bought it. $50 was too rich for what was essentially Rez 2.0, but I loved the hell out of Rez.

@MLC well, if you only have a PS3, then you definitely have to wait. but if you have both, the Kinect version is pretty awesome, much better than the controller version. you should actually try it b4 slagging it.

I don't like grinding through the same levels over and over again to unlock the next one. Without that mechanic this game would be a 12 dollar download tops.

@yomachaser it takes like, one try through each level to unlock the next one. lame excuse.

I don't own a 360.
I could by one, of course, but then I would need to get down on my knees and make room for it underneath my TV. Which would count as exercise...

Really want this game, but I just can't justify the price till it hits atleast $25 for how long it will last... there's too many other games that also deserve my money that give me more. Sad but true, size does matter.

This game was really an arcade title in full release wrappings. There isnt much to it, and with the kinect it is just a few gestures with your hands. No, I recommend waiting till its at $15 here in the near future.

You've got to be kidding me.
$35 for 90 minutes. No.
5 stars for a 90 minute game is a joke. Heavenly Sword was savaged for being 6.5 hours long. It got poor reviews despite mostly being the same game as the later Enslaved. And now I'm supposed to swallow the idea of a 5 star rating for a 90 minutes game? Ridiculous.
And yeah, I played Rez. It's not a five star game either. It is interesting and different, at a low price its an interesting purchase, especially for tweakers. But it's massively overrated. The first 4 levels are all very similar and VERY short.

Shooters are more arcade-like games at heart. However, this is a shooter that is technologically evolved in the visual department. You can't expect a shooter to maintain a player's interest for 6 hours or longer. Games like this are endlessly replayable.
Also, Enslaved is a vastly different game than Heavenly Sword in mechanics, environments, and so on and so forth. And it's a longer and much better game. However, Heavenly Sword was still a good ride.

Dammit, I just bought this and received my copy on Tuesday! Given I had a $20 credit from Amazon from getting Fear 3 so it still came out cheap, I'm just a bit miffed that I could have gotten this game $15. Still a good game, just hate it when I lose out on a deal when I'm trying my best to save money here.

@Ryguy226 And once again Amazon proves themselves as the best in customer service. Called them up to see what they could do about this situation since the price dropped so suddenly after my purchase earlier (literally ordered it on Monday), they gave me a $12 promo credit. I love these guys.

I'm still boycotting amazon.com over the wikileaks situation. I think its weird that amazon continues to sell the books by wikileaks partners..like the guardian and new york times staff.. but won't work with wikileaks directly. They want to have things both ways I guess
