Steam Summer Camp Sale is ready for all your money

When we were kids, we used to be involved with this library program where we'd read books to earn tickets we could redeem for prizes. We relate this anecdote not because it's charming, but to illustrate the irrefutable fact that we were chumps.

Want proof? Take a look at the just-launched Steam Summer Camp Sale. Not only are there new games on sale every day until July 10 (Oblivion for $6! Medal of Honor for $10!), but players who complete specific achievements can earn tickets that can be redeemed for free in-game content or even full games!

Kids of today, take a moment and thank your lucky stars you live in a world where all you have to do to get prizes is to play games. And please, don't think too harshly of our bookish past selves. We were but babes with no inkling of what saps the future would make us out to be.

@nerdydesi1 never buy a full-priced game. Pretty much every game gets a $10-$20 a few weeks after launch.

That is exactly why I pretty much always wait for the discount to get to more than 50% before buying (my happy place starts at 75%). Lesser discounts I reserve for already cheap games, like Jamestown and Inside a Star-Filled Sky.

Go buy those two if you like shmups.

Is anyone else also getting a lot of updates to games since they opened up Steam now just I did?

@nerdydesi1 I got updates for Hoard Demo, Flight Control, Magicka, and Bit.Trip.Beat, but I assume Magicka because of the Summer Camp exclusive DLC and BTB for the challenge today. But, if that's true on the former, then why hasn't some of my other SCDLC games updated?

Maybe set the bar a little lower? Try to beat it and all of its add-ons before Skyrim is part of a Steam sale.

@Zertoss Yeah, I'd probably buy Skyrim on Steam at release, still not having finished Oblivion. When I finish that, then Skyrim would be on sale, when I never even touched the game. Its already happened with The Witcher 2, it'll happen again!

Eh, the actual main story is easy to beat and it's pretty short, too. Not getting side-tracked is the tricky part. But if you just want the story, for now, by all means stick to the main quest and it shouldn't be long.

I found myself enjoying oblivion for all the wrong reasons and mods really helped save the day for added entertainment

You just learned a valuable lesson. Either buy the game the day releases or wait until the inevitable sale on Steam. Never give in and buy it at full price if you've already waited months to play it.

Major holidays mean major Steam sales.

Don't buy games until after a holiday is passed that way you'll know if they are planning another week long extravaganza as they do every year.

It's also worth noting that some games are actually cheaper to buy separately than in their packages during this sale.

The individual prices in this sale are being given bigger discounts, which is why I just purchased all three Dawn of War games for $35 individually when the package price (even with discount) is $45.

It's a good thing i just got a job....

Sigh, at least i'll be just as broke as before.
