Experience 21x XP during Gears 2's 4th of July weekend

We have a sneaking suspicion that Epic Games' Joe Graf may actually be a real-life hobbit in disguise, because he's giving everyone else presents on his birthday. In celebration of his 42 years of being alive (as well as that whole American freedom thing), Epic Games has turned Gears of War 2's XP knob all the way up to 21-times-normal from now until 9 A.M. EDT on July 5th.

The game has also been tweaked to provide 4-times the normal amount of ammunition for the Hammer of Dawn, as well as the mortar, so those without fireworks can have almost as much fun blowing things up in their living rooms over the holiday weekend. Virtual things, we mean ... let's not nuke the coffee table, alright?

@PSN StaticShock Nope. This was planned early in the week ago, look at Cliff's or Rod's Twitter. They did it last year around the 4th of July, too.
Also, I sent that tip in a few days back. Joystiq, way to be late to the party!

Gross, maybe that because the only Rod's we follow on twitter are Stewart, Blagojevich, and Inanimate Carbon.

@PSN StaticShock Considering they always have XP events and they had one for the 4th last year, no it hasn't nothing to do with that.

Not to mentioned this has been talked about on the forums months ago.

I haven't played Gears in a long time, this is as good an incentive as any to pop it back in for a spin.

21 XP!?!? Never heard of that before. Definitely jumping on to Gears 2 for the first time in a while!

Really? In May they had 30XP, How did you miss that?

It's tradition to also get my brother a box of fireworks for his birthday, as well as whatever the hell we were going to get for him anyway.

Now if only other games did something similar. I have a lot of games I want to get higher level in but they take forever! Thank god that Rockstar did a 4x XP with Red dead redemption I finally made it to legendary for the first time!

Now if only Assassin's Creed Brotherhood did the same thing.

Ya, just went from lvl 4 to 28 in two hours of casual ranked play. Excellent.

just a quick question because i haven't played gears of war 2 in so long, but can you rank up by playing horde on LIVE? yes, i is n00b.

I didn't know the answer either til I looked into it - But yes, you do. You get 300xp per wave of Horde, + a multiplier depending on the difficulty. Not sure the multiplier, but really Horde mode is incredibly fun so it's not really grinding in any sense of the word.

@KenobiEagle Unfortunately, it's the sign of a broken system. I'd have to play over 10,000 rounds of any gamemode to get to level 100. And that's when I'm already level 60.
