It wouldn't be an issue at all for me since I generally don't buy used games and have never sold one. If it was a story-driven game I'd understand the complaints more. As it is, having stuff unlocked would probably make finding out which character I like the most easier.

I'm noticing a pattern here:
Capcom does something stupid to screw over customers.
Customers revolt and complain.
Capcom apologizes profusely.
Time passes.

Capcom have always been a company that provides a fan service, if the fans are seriously displeased then they are bound to respond.

It wasn't just the fan's outcry either, some outlets flat out refused to trade in or even stock the game because of the saves issue.

It's just another thing that a game company has tested on their consumers. This one failed, but look at all the ones that worked. $59.99 games, features and items taken out of a final game and sold separately as DLC, ridiculously priced map packs, People paying just to play Peer2Peer online gaming (xbox live), and so on.. Regardless of what they say, this was just another test like those were.

Sony lost money on every PS1 they sold, they sold the PS2 at a loss, the PS3 is sold at a loss.
Sony didn't try and make a profit on their new consoles, because Sony makes all their money from game sales.
So long as PSN adds valve to their games (improving sales), they are unlikely to significantly change their model for it.

Good point but I think $59.99 games are actually an instance of developers and publishers not so much trying to screw us, but instead just trying to stay on top of ballooning development costs. In fact, if you look at development costs for the previous gen (with games at 49.99) and the current gen (59.99), you'll see that they actually lost profit margin. Games this generation are just so damned expensive to make.

On the other hand, at least everyone is on optical discs now. You clearly must not remember $75 Nintendo 64 games.

That's a very one sided way of looking at it. True, development costs are much higher than they once were for "some" titles, however games are selling tenfold what they used to. They don't "need" to sell games at $60, they could sell them for $10 each and assuming it sold 6 times the volume as $60, they would make the same profit.

It's not about recouping losses, it's not about inflation, it's about how much people are willing to pay. Games are $59.99 because millions of people are fully willing to pay that price, and that is the only true reason. If the next COD title were priced at $99.99, and close to the same number of people buy it, guess what all activion games will be priced at from there on out?

I guess all those Capcorn employees that were spamming comments on Joystiq demeaning anyone that complained aren't getting bonuses this year.

Giving credit to Capcorn on this one, we'll see. But there is something you can do about the other xxxx you comitted, like:

- How about providing a patch so that people can play your PSN games without having to be signed on?

- Reducing the price of the SS4 AAE DLC to $10? or at least have it at the same price all over the world (it cost $20 where I live)

- Do a peace offering to the fans by releasing a triple pack game like the one a few years ago (dead rising, devil may cry 4, lost planet)?

- oh, and for the love of god, release AAI2 in the US?

I didn't think this was a very big deal but I suppose I was the only one?

I can't honestly think of the last time I erased a save file. It's not like you have to get achievements or anything along those lines and playing a pre-existing game on a used copy would be detrimental to you.

It's more of a problem if you try to pick up a copy after they stop producing it, you're forced to pick up a used copy that is already partially completed and it detracts from the experience of playing it.

I would have been quite pissed off if I bought Sonic Advance and it was already 100% complete with all emeralds collected and I couldn't erase the save data and restart the game.

Isn't it amazing that gamers will fight a flame war to the bitter end, find ways to acquire funds to get the latest titles, and endure 24 hour gaming marathons to unlock achievements and trophies, yet are stricken deaf, dumb, and blind with the inability to utter even a sense of disapproval when it comes to getting shafted with DLC that should have been in the game, VIP online gaming passes used to thwart used game sales which require some to purchase a right to play online, and micro-transactions which have become Macro-transactions in the last two years?

People need to start using twitter, and other forms of social media to shame these companies back into remembering how to treat customers before they greed this industry back into the Atari days and gaming goes dark again.

Here is the thing about DLC. And please soak it all in.
Levels and features are often removed from games during development. That's just how it goes. A company can only spend so much time on a game before the bank is broke, so you have to release at some point, which usually means part of a game are dropped. This is how it is and always will be. Same goes for movies, TV, books, you name it.

In the days before DLC, you got your game and that was it. Let's go way back to the old Genesis and SNES days. You paid $60 (yes games were $60 back then, more sometimes) and if stuff was removed you really didn't know and didn't care. The experience was on the cartridge.

Fast forward to today, and you see that games still have the same time constraints and also cost $60 BUT now all the bits that would normally be gone and forgotten are offered to you for a price. What's wrong with that?

Might I add that the cost of making a game has jumped dramatically since the 16 bit days. Now they have motion capture, voice over talent, amazing soundtracks, and not to mention fantastic graphics. All of this, for the same price as it was in the 90s.

So what do you care about paying for EXTRAS. Just because you don't think DLC is extra, that's too bad for you. All you have to do is just imagine you're in the 90s and ignore the fact that DLC exists, and you'll be fine.

ASIDE - this save bs capcom pulled is a whole other beast.

Everyone assume malicious intent because most of Capcom's business decisions are based on malicious intent. Selling costume packs for data on th disc, endless minor upgrades to titles absolutely guaranteed to have been planned at the same time as the initial release, requirement to be online to play offline games.

Everything they do is designed to hurt the consumer, rip them off and inconvenience them. They are so transparently corrupt you'd think they were an American company.

They knew exactly what they were doing and why they did it. Like any publishers they like to see what they can get away with. If gamers would have ignored the issue it would have been implemented just like the Online Passes. Online passes are a crock of shit as well but Gamers seem to be okay with the idea so it stayed. Thankfully gamers recognized this and called Capcom out on it and I'm sure they had the excuse ready. Fortunately the gaming press also expressed their displeasure. If only they do the same for the rest of the bullshit. Like...online passes, DLC that is locked on the disc, DLC that should have been in the game, and $15 Map packs. If only they were more then PR puppets and were not afraid of losing their review copies, exclusive interviews and reveals, and of course...advertising dollars.
