If you must delete that Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D save, here's some help
54
If you've purchased a used copy of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D and been thwarted by Capcom's bizarre save-locking procedures, hope is not lost. In fact, we've got two great methods to remove the save data -- if it really bothers you that much.
1. Toss the game into a campfire.
Pros: The save data is gone. Like, way, way gone.
Cons: Liquified cartridges are notoriously hard to insert back into systems.
2. Purchase the NDS Adaptor Plus, a doodad that can be used to back up save data to PC, and to eradicate save games.
Pros: The game can still be played.
Cons: Campfires are free, and the NDS Adapter Plus will cost you some money.
We'll let you ruminate on this one for a bit.

After looking at the reviews of this, I might go for #1

I found the reviews to be rather harsh, because they fail to take one thing into account: It's portable. Reviewers called it bad value when comparing it to RE5, but I can't play RE5 on my lunchbreak.
There are few portable games like this that play just as well (better, actually) as their console predecessors. In fact, I can't think of a single portable first or third person shooter as enjoyable as RE: Mercs. Yes, it still has it's share of faults, and yes it's mostly recycled content, but that doesn't mean it isn't a blast to play.

@CaramelZappa This is what I don't think many people take into account (Although I think it is the most obvious).
I love Zelda 3D. Beaten it multiple times already (Regular, still working on Master Quest). I would have loved it even if it was not in 3D. The main feature of it is that it is portable. Quite frankly, if I could just have the entire library of N64 games in portable 2D and never released another game, I would be quite satisfied.

I agree, but I wouldnt want the sale to register on anyone's balance sheet! The more copies this POS sells, the more inclined other companies are to try the same crap! Boycott this incredible steaming pile of poo and send a clear message to Capcom and others that this will NOT be tolerated!

Screw that campfire, this game is to much fun for that.
Though don't know why RE is getting all the flak when Blazblue and other games do it.
But in the end it is a very dumb move regardless of the game.

@philmcfail On the other hand using a mimic account is possibly the most pathetic and unimaginative form of trolling in the world. It's one step removed from "I know you are but what am I!"

another con for the campfire... poison fumes from the plastic... although that might also be a Pro because...well... you dont need save games when youre dead right?!

That was such a dick move on their part to do that...
Companies are freaking out for third party sellers, but they forgot to take into consideration some people think 40$+ for a game makes them want to replay it. If its the case of that, they might as well pay 10$ for the game, and treat it like a movie in a theatre. You get to play it once, to play it again, buy it again. At least then you're only wasting 10$

"3. Don't buy this terrible game"
But for real, I'm not sure why this is a huge deal. I could understand if it were almost any other type of game, but isn't this just a "high-score" arcade type game?

I can either...
1) Kill it with fire...
or
2) Spend precious monies to get into the game just to delete it, which defeats the purpose of even trying to get this game cheaper...
Yeah... I'mma go with "Kill it with fire!"

It seems as though Capcom spend more time finding new ways of locking people out of games (DRM anyone) then they do making them...

I totally understand why people are pissed at this. It's akin to buying a DVD and being told that you can only ever watch it once. Sure, there's some movies that you will only watch once but that's not the point. You'd like the option to one day pick it up and watch it again, even if you never do.
Project Ten Dollar seems to have been the most successful anti-preowned tactic so far, although controversial in its own right. It's worked and doesn't deter sales of new games. This play-once tactic seems to be a completely illogical one. I hate to say it but I think Capcom has a major sales loss ahead on this one. Maybe they'll learn that gamers don't like restrictions like this.

Sorry for reposting this, but I'm curious...
Has anyone thought of just pulling out the cartridge while it's saving? That may just corrupt the data and cause a new save file.

@chicgods36 Good sir,
I must admit, at first, I had you pegged for one of those other ridiculous spambots that sent random text and smileys and broken houses all across my beloved Joystiq. But I did indeed visit your site. An accidental click, no less!
My god.
You were right to believe that I would love it! It was some sort of clothing wonderland! Everything I wanted was right at my fingertips! Lightning volcanoes and unicorns, magical rabbits farting doves! My only disappointment is that amidst your accepting Mastercards and Visas, you don't take the only payment I was willing to give.
My heart.
~Always yours, Pug
PS. You truly are the Chic God.

Save fiasco aside I have zero interest in buying the mercenaries mode at msrp. Compare the dollar value against ghost recon 3DS or Zelda 3DS and Mercenaries feels like a $5 iPhone app / 3DS shop game.
If it were actually something fun like COD Blops zombies or L4D it'd be a different story. From what I remember of mercenaries mode in RE4 on GC there is no way it's worth the cost of entry. The stupid decision about game saves just make the decision all the easier.
