Sony has wisely avoided getting into a semantics argument about the definition of "through" by stating a clear conclusion to the Welcome Back package: 9AM Pacific on July 5th. That gives procrastinators another day to do everything else but download their free games.
No, we're totally kidding. Go do it now! Not at home? Make a little mark on your hand to remind you when you get back to the domicile. This is it: no more reminders or extensions. Get it done.

Wait, does it expire ON July 5th, or THROUGH July 5th?
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

Funny that some of the commenters swore that he won't buy any Sony product after they shut down the "WB" gift program. Heck, there was a guy that said he sold his ps3 in favor for the 360.

I can see how you might think that, but I for example still can't make use of this offer, because I gave my PS3 to my parents to watch Blu-rays after finishing the original inFamous and stupidly updating my PS3 so I couldn't use it as a media server anymore. Since I'm about 500km (about 310 miles for my American friends) away from there until August and don't remember my PSN ID this extension doesn't really help me personally.
This isn't meant as a complaint, because I wasn't really interested in any of the games offered, but instead as a reminder that in fact some people were unable to redeem their welcome back presents for various reasons. Even though they were aware of the deadline and thus shouldn't complain it still sucks for them, no?

And Sony should be even more thankful that I continue buying their products after the hack. Really, I don't understand why people think that people who complain about the vague wording are whiners. Sony offered us something as a way of saying sorry for their terrible security, but they weren't clear on the exact date of the promotion ending. Also, there's nothing wrong with waiting until the last day. If someone's internet went out that day, that's another story and it's that persons fault. But when Sony isn't clear on the time the offer ends, it's Sony's fault and no one elses.

That doesn't change the fact that they said "through the 3rd" Which means until and INCLUDING and not "we pull the offer on the 3rd".
Whiners be damned, Sony screwed up. After the whole PSN fiasco Sony will be under the microscope for the foreseeable future. At least they are now making good on their original statement.

No.. They said "UNTIL JULY 3." That meant they could have pulled it at 12:01AM on July 3. The stuff went live in the PlayStation Store on June 3. They said 30 days. That does not mean all the way until 11:59PM on July 3. And besides, the fact that they even did something like this should be good enough. Yeah, they muffed up. There's no defending that, especially with the report that they laid off key employees of the security team just days before all this happened. But I'm not arguing that. There are numerous companies out there that would not even come close to doing what Sony did for us because of a security attack. Some companies wouldn't do anything. They'd say "Yeah. We got attacked. We fixed it. It's back." They wouldn't offer anything to make it up to us. So you are the one that should be happy that Sony did something to make it up to us. Not "Sony should be happy that I still buy their products." Who are you that Sony should be praising because *YOU* still buy their stuff?

Funny their own FAQ says through not until....
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/06/03/welcome-back/
Q: When will I have access to the Welcome Back Program?
A: The content offered as part of the Welcome Back Program is available for download today and will be available THROUGH July 3.
Q: How long do I have to get into the PlayStation Store and receive my content for Welcome Back?
A: Access to the Welcome Back content will be expiring on July 3. ONCE THIS DATE HAS PASSED, the Welcome Back section in the PlayStation Store will be removed.
The second question would have held that it expired the 3rd had they not added the second part with the implication that the 3rd was the final day they would be honoring their offer not that it would be cut off on the start of the 3rd.
Yeah there is a bunch of ZOMG its only one day .... and that argument works both ways. If I can't trust what comes out of their mouths for something as simple as the welcome back program ..... what sort of light does that shine on the current state of their operations. Simple as that.

Yeah, those who waited were really to blame, but if you are trying to make up for a big "oops" you don't do it by having a semantics fight with your consumers.

I play games every day but there have been weeks, months where I haven't played some of my consoles...

It was the right thing to do. Sony created the problem by not being clear and giving a time, and instead only mentioning the day and assuming everyone would realize what time they had in mind. If you say Monday through Friday, it doesn't translates to Monday to Thursday, it means Monday to Friday.
I think their resolution is more than reasonable.

They gave you 30 days. Sony didn't do anything wrong. It's one's own fault for not taking 5 mins out of their day to turn their PS3 on and get the goods.

Then you would probably moan that they gave you the hour and not the minute, ot the minute and not the second, or the second but not the milisecond.
