Urban Champion is the 3DS's latest 3D 'Classic'

Well, the 3DS had a good run. Of all the NES games to spend time and money remaking in 3D, Nintendo has chosen its worst first-party game as the third 3D Classics release. That's right, Urban Champion follows Excitebike and Xevious in the 3D Classics line, coming to the eShop in Japan July 13, for ¥600 ($7.40).

The 3D perspective change effect actually looks really cool, and there's local wireless multiplayer -- two new aspects that temporarily distract from the crumminess of Nintendo's 1984 fighter.

The same day, an unaltered retro game will also come to 3DS in Japan via Virtual Console: Adventure Island 2.

OMG... Urban Champion?! I can't believed the amount of hours wasted on this game when i was a kid, just because i didn't understand what to do! Maybe i would get this just to re-live my totured childhood.

Has there been an AVGN review made of this game yet?

Worst game ha ha I say trust me nintendo had worst I personally loved this game as a kid. But then again ............

Its not like they'll release all their triple A titles in on go. Just look back at the Wii VC.

Why can it not be Mario, Zelda, metroid, or even contra. I can't wait to play those games in 3D.

$7 for Urban Champion, of ALL GAMES?

Overpriced and crap.

It's not like games like this are hard to make. You only really need one person to do it. The coding is already there, and the music is already made. You just need simple new 3D graphics and test it and you're done.
I bet a game like this literally costs a few grand to make, but under 10k.

You think being so easy and quick to turn over they'd be going at a faster rate, but man it just shows NoA is lazy and pathetic when it comes to digital platforms.

@hami83 You can't just magically turn a NES game into a 3D game without remaking the whole thing.

Why would they do Urban Champion before, like, Ice Climber or Balloon Fight or any other first wave NES games? It's nice that Excitebike is there, I guess, but even if they're just doing early NES games for now, Urban Champion has to be like the worst choice.

Oh Nintendo, are you even trying? Trying to destroy your eShop this early doesn't count.

Yeah this kind of reminds me of the Wii's VC. I'm sure they'll put out the good ones eventually, but you're going to have to wait forever for them to do it.

You're not selling consoles putting out this crap every week, Nintendo. *sigh*

I've never played Urban Champion, and despite the tone taken towards it, I may buy this when it arrives here in America.

Gotta get the bad ones out of the way.

I wouldn't say bad ones right away. Nintendo isn't one to play favorites, so like VC on Wii, all games get the same treatment and worked into their release calendar. Urban Champion in 3D is an odd choice, although I've never played the original. Having been remade for it, though, maybe some wrongs have been made right, but I'll check it out when its out.

I gave up on 3DS eshop when it became apparent that they were putting out a single game each week. Plus, it's now over 3 months since 3DS launch and there's one single 3D game on the eshop, Excitebike. No expectations = no disappointment, I will wait for the retail games like Super Mario and Kart and play Ocarina in the meantime.

I agree 100 percent, the only reason I have this 3DS right now is because of Ocarina and the new Resident Evil coming out in the fall. I guess also for the Metal Gear 3D. I don't give 2 craps about 99 percent of the content on their eshop. They never have sales, and most of the releases are pure crap. 1 lousy 3D eshop game and its excite bike lol. What a friggin joke.

As successful a company as they have been they are still totally clueless when it comes to how to make the eshop more appealing. Just totally clueless.

I bought this game when it first came out (the original version) and, yeah, it was a total piece of crap back then. This is one that REALLY would have been best forgotten.

Am I the only one getting a photo of a PS3 for this story?
